chill any center city philadelphia. here's meteorologist, justin drabick with "eyewitness news" weather, finally feeling little more like winter, isn't it, justin? >> exactly. looks like this trends will stay around little bit. gets pretty cold next week. talking about our shot of true arctic air coming n i know a lot of winter fans probably getting excited about this. >> brush off the winter coats. >> good for the ski resorts to be able to make snow with this cold air in place. look at the numbers, much colder than yesterday morning at this time. look at that below freezing, 31 at the airport, 25 in millville, new jersey, 24 mount pocono, 33. in the lehigh valley, allentown, suburbs kind of the same deal. hovering around the freezing mark, in pottstown, quakertown, doylestown, we may drop another agree before sunrise. change in the temperatures, compared to yesterday at this time. we're 10 degrees colder in philadelphia, 12 in millville, so if you're getting ready for the morning jog, that work out or bike ride, dress for cold temperatures.

win at lows are pretty much on the light side. less than 10 miles per hour, that's enough after breeze to cause some nasty windchills out there. this is what it foles like on exposed skin, 26 in philadelphia, 28 in reading, 15 up in mount pocono. all right, storm scan3, again, for the most part quiet, few clouds pass by from time to time. overall, we will see lot of sunshine today, typical early january day with temperatures starting off in the 30's this morning, slowly climbing into the lower 40's, this afternoon, we get to up about 443 for the high temperature for philadelphia, mid four's at the shore shall more clouds stuck in the lower 30's in the poconos, we will talk about that cold air coming in for early next week. coldest we've seen so far this winter. we will get to that in a few more minute. >> justin, thanks. mummers sure know how to throw a party a loft strutting as usual through the city at the annual parade. did not end there. allentown. police have released pictures of the boy, that you see right, there but not his name. they say he was last seen around 11:00 new years eve night in the area of south aubrey and east south street. police say the boy has autism and may run if approached. so if you see him, or you know where he is, call allentown police. >> all across the globe this morning, people are remembering natalie coal following her death. we spoke to a local woman who knew the grammy award winning singer. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco has that story. >> ♪ >> unforgettable was the song that boosted her fame, selling 14 million copies and winning six grammys. now, it is earned her that very title. natalie cole was the daughter of nat king cole and her life was not without hardship. >> i am a walking testimony who you could have scars, you can go through turbulent times, and still have victory

in your life. >> while music was in her blood, she lost her father at the age of 15, and then followed in his footsteps. >> naturally cole was very elegant, gracious, down to earth warm woman. >> dianna williams, local radio personality first met naturally in her new york city apartment building in the 70s, and over the years came to interview her while working at vh1. >> as a woman the narrative was familiar, the lyrics, the melodies, the harmony appealed to my spirit. she was a great entertainer. seeing her live was an experience. and she was a caring person. she was beloved and very popular in the music community. >> she died thursday in l.a. after a battle with liver disease, contracting hepatitis c from a drug addiction in the 80s. she underwent a kidney transplant in 2009. but her music will live on. naturally died surrounded by her family. she will undoubtedly be

remembered at the grammys next month, right here on cbs-3. in the satellite center, diana rocco, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> the wife of comedian bill cosby has been ordered to give a deposition in a defemation suit against her husband. a massachusetts court reject add a motion by camille cosby to cancel the deposition order, to testify next week t involves seven women who have accused bill cosby of drugging and assaulting them. he is also facing felony assault charges in pennsylvania over alleged incident that happened in 2004. the entertainer has denied all wrong-doing. >> and for the first time since the criminal charges were brought upon the philadelphia native, he has reached out on twitter in a brief tweet. he says, friends and fans, thank you. >> israeli police reportedly know the identity of the suspect who opened fire outside a tel-aviv bar. police say there is a massive manhunt underway for the

gunman who killed two people and injured three other. residents of a village in northern israel say they recognize the man who is allegedly israeli arab from that village. at least 21 israelis and 131 palestinians have been killed in the violence over the past three month. >> in his weekly address, president obama said that because congress won't act on gun control, he will. chip read is with the president in hawaii. >> it was just after the mass shooting at an oregon community college in october, that the president decided he had to take executive action on guns. he made the announcement today, in his weekly address, posted on the white house website. >> i direct my team at the white house to look into any new actions i can take to help reduce gun violence, on monday i'll meet with our attorney general, loretta lynch, to discuss our options. >> sources tell cbs news, those options include expanding the definition of who is in the business of selling guns. so that more gun sales trigger background checks.

and, requiring enhancement reporting and tracking of lost and stolen guns. today the president blames the republican congress forgiving him no choice but to take unilateral action. >> we know we can't stop every act of violence watch if we tried to stop even one. what if congress did something, anything, to protect our kids from gun have i lens. >> last month, senate republicans blocked democratic proposals that would prevent people on the terror watch list from buying guns, and require background checks for on line gun purchases. meanwhile, some states are taking action on their own, in california, a new gun control law took effect today allowing just to order the seizure of guns from people deemed dangerous by their own family or by law enforcement. texas, though, going in the other direction on gun control with a new law allowing guns to be carried openly in public places. the nra did not respond to our request for comment. but, when the detail of the president's plan are

county up early gathering around to catch a glimpse of this black bear just hanging out in a tree on a busy street. many residents seem to be thrilled and snot scared to see this bear relaxing near their home. >> i looked out my window, all the sudden there was a bear. what, there is a bear? >> no concerns. i'm happy the bear survived the bear hunt. kids are watching, all is well. >> reservation only few miles away from that neighborhood. some resident say they've seen bears in the area before. authorities say since the bear was really high up in the tree right there, they can't tranquilize him, so they are waiting for him to come down on his own. he certainly looks comfy, doesn't he? oh, my goodness. >> chilling up there. >> just chilling. and everybody watching. they were all bundled up, and coats, new years day, little surprise for them. >> it's cool. >> no biggie, bear in a tree. >> you kneel the codes certainly this weekend, gets colder neck week, true arctic air coming at us. yes it, will fowl like winter now that we kick off 2016. so let's see how long this

spots, mid 20's at this hour in millville. twenty-nine at the atlantic city airport, capitol city, sitting at freezing it at this hour. closer to philadelphia, same deal. lower 30's around the airport, to the mid 20's, mullica hill, 26 degrees, 24 in vineland. and then up to the lehigh valley, just a degree above freezing, 24 mount pocono, that's great news. they can make the snow, account cold and dry air mass in place. here's what's happening. storm scan3, not whole lot, few flurries coming off the lakes in up-state new yorkment you can just see that flow coming out of the west to northwest, cooler air rushing in out of canada. nothing terribly cold this weekend. really not until monday you really start to feel the difference. so here's our set up. dry, there is a cold front out to the midwest, it will move it way eastward the next 24-48 hours. a lot of sunshine today. tonight looks good. just cold. tomorrow, still dry. we will be ahead of the front. little surge of some warmer air, temperatures back into the mid and upper 40's, then once this front passes, should come through dry. the winds will kick up sunday night. that colder air just rushes

in. so talking about high temperatures in the 30's on monday and tuesday, now, it is not record breaking cold, but we will be dropping five to maybe 10 degrees below average for couple of days. so, wind speeds today, generally out of the west, around 10 miles per hour, so same deal tomorrow. we see the turn out of the northwest to north later sunday into monday. bridges in colder air. today high temperatures generally lower 40 east for this afternoon, they drop off pretty quickly tonight, if you have evening plans around town hitting dinner bring the heavier coat. it will drop quickly into the lower 30's, 20's, suburbs, and then tomorrow, back to the mid maybe even upper 40's, here's the trend. we have the cold pocket of air coming in here, sunday night, monday, tuesday, then it lift on out of here for wednesday and for the rest of next week. but overall, temperatures close to where they should be for this time of year. so today, seasonable day, 43 degrees for the high, sunshine. tonight, 31 for the city. colder out in the suburbs, here is the seven day forecast, no big storms to talk about. we go 40's monday, tuesday,

>> today is january 2nd, 2016. good morning, i'm jan carabeo. cooler in center city than we're used to feeling, fun toy say since it is went nerve january. meteorologist, justin drabick, out on the cbs-3 skydeck with eyewitness weather, justin, feeling more seasonable? >> reporter: it is, jan. actually temperatures below freezing, only happened couple of times so far this season, at the airport in philadelphia. but, at least the wind is pretty much calm. so typical january morning. temperatures in the 20's, 30's, that's going to be the trend even into the afternoon. at least we're quiet, that's the trend really the next several days. so if you have travel plans throughout the weekends, looks pretty good. thirty-one at the airport, 33 allentown, mid 20's, though, some of the colder suburbs, interior south jersey, pinelands, millville checking in the mid 20's at this hour, 33 in willow grove, mt. holly, new jersey, you guys at 34. so again, little bit after breeze, maybe five to 10 miles per hour, that's bringing the windchill values down into the mid 20's, some of the coldest spots, does feel like 15 up in the poconos at this hour.

>> on monday, the eight year tenure of philadelphia mayor michael nutter will come to an end. his time in office began with the great recession, and ends with pope francis' visit of the city of brotherly love. this week nutter re tweeted this picture, tweeted this picture every his office. the mayor wrote: thank you philadelphia for allowing me to serve eight years as mayor of my hometown. happy, healthy and safe in you year to all. "eyewitness news" anchor jessica don't recently sat down with mayor nutter to talk about what stands out, and what comes next. >> in her room filled with portrait of former philadelphia mayors, mayor michael nutter talks about his life after office. >> there is something about, you know, the mystery of the future. i don't know exactly what i'm going to do. >> for 22 years, nutter has work in city hall, the last eight as mayor. >> there is certainly a significant amount of nostalgia, and good feelings. >> so after eight years under mayor michael nutter, philadelphia is what?

update on very special polar bear club. eight year old doing very well, she was born in november, but her mother stopped caring for her after she was born. the zoo staff removed her from her den, and decided to hand rear her. she's hitting her milestones now weighing a little over 6 pounds and measuring 17 and a half inches long. how many cute is that? oh, my goodness. and another new years day tradition took place on the banks of the schuylkill river. >> "eyewitness news" in pottstown, montgomery county, whereus every people turned out for the eighth annual polar bear plunge, getting into the water almost as difficult as getting out along those muddy banks. although, not everyone was daring enough to take the plunge, they offered plenty of support from the side lines. >> it was a new years day that one new jersey couple won't soon forget. they got married new years eve in ocean sit, then took the plunge again, new years day. but, their second commitment ceremony down the shore, took

10 degrees cold nerve philadelphia, 12 in millville, four in allentown, so if you're about to step outside, maybe that morning work out, walking the dog, it will hit you hard, pretty chilly. there go, temperatures right around freezing most spots, trenton, philadelphia and wilmington, interior south jersey, the pipe lan getting cold right now, 25 in millville. there is the cold air just lock in place across the great lakes, and the northeast, 28, 27, buffalo, and state college, this hour. our flow generally out of the west northwest. starting to bring in cooler air from canada. dry, though, just some lake effect snow showers across up-state new york even into north new jersey couple of snow showers. but elsewhere we just see sunshine, maybe few fair weather clouds. now, what happens early next week, as we get strong cold front moving through tomorrow night. should dom through dry. it will just kick up the winds, start to bring in colder air from northern canada. so now we will drop our temperatures back below average, now, it is not record breaking cold. but we are talking about highs in the 30's, so that's going to feel whole lot colder than what we've been dealing with the past few weeks, as we come

off the record warm december. today though lots of sunshine, into the this afternoon, this evening, looks good, if you have evening plans. again, just gets cold quickly as temperatures will rapidly drop through the 30's, early this evening, then tomorrow we're back at it, mostly sunny skies, little brief warm up until we see the shot of colder air moving in monday. so here we go today. temperatures close to average, lower four's, most locations for the afternoon highs. tonight, here you go, this is 9:00 already at freezing in many of the suburbs, to 34, in philadelphia. and then we will get cold again tonight, most areas outside the city again dropping into the 20's. there is that brief warm up i was talking about sunday, back to the mid maybe even upper 40's, for little bit, that's above average, we should be at 41 degrees for this time of year for the average high. today close to where we should, 43 in the sunshine, seasonable, little breeze at ten to 15 miles per hour, then tonight it get cold again, mostly clear, 31 for the city, 20's out in the suburbs, still breeze to deal with. sunset coming in at 4:47 now.
