again, pretty much coal. some of the suburbs down to the 20's, look at that, millville checking in at 23 degrees this hour. up into the lehigh valley, kind of the same deal as well. thirty-two in quakertown, willow grove, 29 in pottstown. little breeze out of the west southwest right now, anywhere from five to 10 miles per hour. so bit of windchill. so on exposed skin what it foles like, mid 20's in a lot of locations, 17 the cold spot up in mount pocono. storm scan3 quiet. that will will be the trends throughout the entire weekend. and through much of next week. so if you like the sunshine, you are going to like this forecast. so here we go. through the morning, again, it is coal, by 9:00 talking about mid 30's, in the sunshine, noontime 39 degrees. afternoon highs get to up about 43 for philadelphia, 44 at the shore, and then lower 30's in the poconos, and that's pretty much close to average for this time of year. early next week we are talking about couple of days where it is cold, highs only in the 30's, i'll show you when that arrives coming up in a few more minutes, jan, back to you. >> justin, thanks.

powerball jackpot is growing. after no one won the last drawing, now worth $334 million. tragic story out of new york city man crushed by broken elevator while helping a woman get out of t as hazel sanchez from sister station in new york reports, just so happened, minute before the clock rang in the new year. >> he will forever be haunted by steven hewett brown's final word. >> i don't breathe no more. can i not breathe no more. i need to take me out of here. >> says he tried desperately to save the 25 year old, as he was slowly being crushed to death by an elevator on new years eve. >> i tried to put the elevator little bit up to take him out, but i can't, eumovate or have too much weight. >> witnesses say just before midnight, was in a elevator at 131 broom street with nine other passengers including his mother-in-law. and her ten year old nephew. he vai or stalled halfway between the second and third floors, and the door opened.

>> hewett brown wished her happy new year as he pushed her up and out of the elevator car on to the third floor. hewett brown leaning halfway off the elevator when it suddenly gave way crushing him at the hip. his body caring the weight of the car, and eight passengers still on board. >> the incident happened inside this brick apartment building. witnesses say they called 911 right away. they say it still took nearly 30 minute for any emergency response teams to show up, despite the fact that the seventh priest secretary station house and firehouse, are directly across the street. >> with crews arriving within five minutes, at 11:59 they say the response took much longer than that. >> i think if they're coming more in time, we can take them out, this guy, but they come late. >> those who witnessed this tragedy say 2016 quickly

step outside. cold temperatures finally feeling like winter. a lot of people complaining about the dreary conditions. want the sun back. trade off. starting to bring in colder air coming off the record warm december. so let's i go ahead, check in with the weather watchers. generally most areas low mid three's, depends where you are. we have pretty much calm winds. that's good news, areas with no winds, temperatures really are starting to drop. kerr any mt. laurel new jersey sitting at freezing. lynn in cherry hill 31 degrees and john also checking in at freezing, haven't reached freezing much at all this winter, or this season so far in philadelphia. then to up allentown, 33 julia's house, coal spot, checking in at 24 degrees, she says, a lot of frost out there. so little bit of scraping to do this morning. if you're about to head outside. woodbine, new jersey, again interior south jersey, gets just away from the coastline, look at that, 23 degrees, and then burlington, sandra checks in at 34. like i said, wind pretty much calm. windchill values may drop down to the lower 20's, if you

southeast. bringing in colder air, a lot of sunshine today, things nice, quiet throughout the mid-atlantic northeast, exception couple of snow showers across the great lakes. >> actually little warm up ahead of this cold front, for sunday afternoon, this front comes through sunday night, should come through dry, will kick up the winds, then for monday starts to bring in colder air. coal he is air of the season really some arctic air coming out of canada. so here's our wind. today, really out of the west, sustained at about ten to 15 miles per hour with higher gusts, brief surge, in a southwest wind for sunday. that may bring temperatures back up to the mid and upper 40's. wind direction starts to turn, sunday night, monday, that's why talking about cool down for cup of days. today temperatures where they should be low 40's through the afternoon temperatures near freezing in the suburbs, tomorrow slight warm up, mid maybe some upper four's,

specially from the sit on south and east. here is the trend. so cool pocket of air over us right now. it gets colder monday, tuesday as the surge in the jet stream moves southward. and then that lift on out of here. so by the ends of next week, temperatures kind of level off to where they should be once again. so today 43 degrees, seasonable day in the sunshine, it is quiet tonight, clear, cold 31 for the city. twenty's out in the suburbs, and then check out the seven day forecast, so we go from 40's the weekend, look at that, monday, 37 degrees, tuesday morning, 20's for the city, teens in the suburbs, then oops, looks like jump the gun there on the seven day forecast, again talking about temperatures back only mid 30's for afternoon highs on tuesday. so then we're running about a good five to 10 degrees below average. that's that shot of colder air. as i bring up the seven day forecast, there you go, and no big storm system next week at all. so a loft sunshine in in the forecast, typical january stuff by the end of the week, talking highs in the 40's, so

incoming mayor jim kenney takes over on monday as philadelphia's 99th mayor. among his top priorities, reducing poverty and improving the relationship between police and african-americans. jessica also spent some time with mayor-elect kenny, you can catch her one-on-one interview with him tomorrow night on "eyewitness news" at 11:00. "eyewitness news" got the chance to meet one of the first babies of the new year in our area, as well. madison was born at one minute after midnight on new years day at virtua memorial in mt. holly. she ways 8 pounds and is 19 and a half inches long. it is the first baby for mother in nicole. she said she never dreamed she would be a new mom on new years day. >> that was the last thing on my mind honestly. like i didn't even realize what time it was. it just kind of happened. >> nicole says her goal for the new year is to make sure madison is healthy and growing. >> take a look at this. they arrived just minutes

apart, but one set of twins were born in different years. baby girl and boy arrived one minute before and two minute after the new year at a san diego california hospital. little jaylen valencia born first on the last minute of 2015. and her brother luis arrived at 12:02 new years day. the father, luis there, says the different birth years will make for some moments when the twins get older. >> later on in the year, they have like little confrontation with like my birthday came on the first, and then two birthday parties back-to-back. >> both infant happy and healthy and so is mom, maribell. some talented american student traveled a long way across the ponds to be part of special new years day celebration. the student from the oklahoma high school went through tragedy and came out on the other side stronger. correspondent jonathan reports from london. >> ♪

live look, getting red foyer nice sunrise, with mainly clear skies this morning, we're at freezing right now, light wind out of the west at around 5 miles per hour, this is what we are talking about the next few days, a lot of sunshine today, tomorrow, temperatures chilly but typical for early january. then it gets colder next week. we will talk about this when i show you the seven day in just a bit, then dry stretch of weather really in the next seven days, so if you are sick and tired of the dreary conditions the past few weeks, you're going to like the forecast, a lot of sunshine coming at us. big change in temperatures though compared to 24 hours ago, we're about four to 15 degrees colder, this cold air mass, kind of builds in throughout the weekend. flow coming out of the west to northwest from canada, starts to usher until the colder air. few clouds over us right now. lake effect snow showers, but overall, dry forecast, good travel conditions, throughout the weekend, into early next week. now, starting monday, pretty strong cold front coming through, and that start to bring in arctic air. so going to be dropping our temperatures back below average for few days. as we talk about highs, only in the 30's.

here's the set up. it is quiet, no big storms to talk about. we do have storm system in southern canada through the weekend, that's where all of the snow is. even northern new england sunday. but for us, nice and dry, sunshine, here comes the front late sunday night, will bring few clouds, but also change our winds direction out of the north. so monday, you're going to feel the difference, we will get the arctic air building on in, now lingers around for tuesday, as well. so today, normal conditions, lower #'s, tonight cold pretty quickly, 8:00, 9:00 talking many spots close to freezing, and the suburbs, down to the 20's early sunday morning, little bit warmer tomorrow compared to today. mid maybe some you have upper four's, warm spots, then usher in the colder air coming in monday and tuesday. today, 43 for the high temperature, so overall seasonable day with the sunshine, west winds at ten to 15 miles per hour. tonight cold for the city, 31, then 20's out in the suburbs mainly clear skies, and check out the extended forecast, so typical january weekend in the
