dozen shots at point blank range, and miraculously that officer survived and he is being called a hero. police say the shooter confessed and did it the in the name of the islamic state. cbs news correspondent kenneth craig has more. >> this could have been easily a police funeral. >> reporter: surveillance video shows gunman approach officer jesse hartnett's patrol car and fire at point blank range. three three-year old officer was hit three times. >> shots fired, shots fired, i'm bleeding heavily. >> reporter: he exits his police vehicle, starts chase, despite being seriously injured. >> reporter: suspect edward archer was arrested near the scene and later told police he shot the officer in the the name of islam. >> according to him he believed that the the police defend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the the quran. >> reporter: police say there is no indication that the shooter was tied to a larger terror plot but that the fbi and department of home land security are also now investigating. >> they are executing search

warrants, his property in upper darby, and also one in southwest philadelphia not too far from where the the shooting took place. >> reporter: authorities say archer has a criminal history and that the gun used was stolen from a philadelphia police officer two years ago. the officer hartnett was seriously injured but is expect to be okay. kenneth craig for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and while local and federal authorities are searching the suspect neighborhood for more fur "eyewitness news" spoke with his family. "eyewitness news" reporter diana rocco traveled to yah den delaware county where she spoke with one of the suspect's relatives. >> reporter: outside edward archer's mom home a female relative who answered the door friday said the family is still in shock. >> we're just trying to get through right now, figure everything out. >> reporter: officials from the atf and fbi spent most of the day searching family's home on mapel street in yah den, one of the three a addresses sources say archer frequented, investigators in white suits carried out boxes

police are investigating a homicide overnight in philadelphia, this happened about 1:30 this morning in the 800 block of north forty-ninth

street. police found a 19 year-old man shot several times in the face and chest. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. there is no word on a suspect at this time. a community gathers to remember a young mother a and her two-year old son killed in the house fire. family and friend placed candles and stuffed animals near burnout home on north fourth street in west kensington. elizabeth perez who was eight months pregnant escaped and then went back inside to rescue her two-year old son. the just heart breaking. they have both became trapped by that fire. officials say that five space heaters were running and the home did not have working smoke detectors. well, two men at center of the deadly building collapse at 22nd and market streets have learned their fate. demolition contractor griffin campbell apologized to the victims and hear families before being sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison. ex-straighter operator sean benschop received a sentence of seven and a half to 15 years in prison n2013, six people died and 13 were injured when a building under

great lakes. it will get in here after midnight tonight. we are on a warming trend. trek it out, 40's where we should be this time of the year. last tuesday that was the coldest day at the 32. each day it warmed up. today we should make it into the the lower 50's and a lot of locations, and then tomorrow, it is into the lower 60's, potentially. these are record for tomorrow. sixty-four in wilmington. sixty-three in atlantic city and philadelphia a trenton, allentown in the lower 60's. the these could be reached, certainly tomorrow. so we may tie or even break some of those record important sunday afternoon even with the rain. here's the reason for the warmth, right now we have wind off of the ocean. that is still mild, ocean water temperature 40's to around 50 degrees. and then testimony check out the wind flow as it pushes from the south. pretty strong sustain wind, 15 to 20 miles an hour and that pumps in that warm air from the south. the and then there is that storm system that will track in the great lakes late tonight, tomorrow, and brings in that steady rain just after midnight. 2:00 a.m. we will see rain rolling across the region. pockets of heavy rain coming

through especially on sunday morning. maybe even a few rum also of thunder. wind kicks up as well. as this storm exits us we will see surge out of canada. for monday it will be windy, cold, sunshine with temperatures back in the the 30's. the pretty good rain amounts from this next storm system late tonight and sunday. anywhere from a half an inch to maybe up to an inch of rain before these showers come to an end, later on sunday afternoon. temperatures today, running 10 e average, lower 50's, in some locations, and the mountains, stuck in the 30's, and then tonight, temperatures level off, generally mid to upper 40's and then tomorrow potentially, 60's in some locations. we may even see the sunshine at times, into the the afternoon. and here's the overall trend, a mild weekend but another arctic shot of air, comes in here for monday, we will catch a brief break, tuesday, and then reenforcees cold air for wednesday. wednesday's coldest day, as we could see a few flurries, as cold air comes in and then we will see milder era as we get back to near average.
