russell crow tweeted: all right t david. i loved your music, i loved you, one of the greatest performance artists to have ever lived. hashtag sorrow. >> david bowie has strong ties to our area, as well. he recorded much of his 1974 albumn young americans at phillies sigma studios. that same year, recording of bowie's concert in upper darby tower theater released. music video for hit modern love, that was recording during a july 20th 1983 concert at the spectrum. and our coverage of david bowie's death and his connection to our area continues this afternoon, on "eyewitness news" at 5:00. you can find the latest any time at cbsphilly.com. right now we want to turn to our forecast and drastic drop in temperatures means we could seen see some of winter's first flailing, we check in with justin drabick. we haven't seen any snows since the poconos all winter. >> if we see this tomorrow in fill at this will be the latest we've had first

snowfall of the season at the airport. how about that? coming off record warmth yesterday, 56 degrees, bringing back winter today. it looks like the next several days temperatures will be at or even below average. so, winter weather fans, you are going to like it forecast coming up. a lot of sunshine around today, not helping temperatures out much at all. here we are sitting at 34 at the airport, 30 up in allentown, chilly 21 in mount pocono. same deal as we zoom into the suburbs here, below freezing in quakertown, doylestown, and in willow grove. winds, that's the problem, the coldest one thing, but factor in the winds, starts to feel nasty. sustained winds over 20 miles per hour in some spots. so the wind chills values on exposed skin down to the teens to lower 20's, feels like 24 in philadelphia, so, have that heavier coat on this afternoon, maybe gloves and scarf. storm scan3, quiet for now. in the sunshine. but there is going to be fast moving clipper system we talk about these in the wintertime, come tomorrow, bring more clouds, chance for few light snow showers, not big deal. today sunny, windy, afternoon

temperatures struggle to get to the mid 30's for philadelphia, upper 30s at the shore, 20's in the poconos, i will timing out the snow showers coming up in the full forecast in just a few more minutes, back to you. >> thank you, the fbi and philadelphia police are investigating a possible new threat against officers. the information comes days after officer jesse hartnett was wounds madam bush in west philadelphia. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch spoke to the police commissioner about the threat investigations. >> two weeks on the job and philadelphia police commissioner, richard rot, is heading the department stunned by the ambush shooting of officer jesse hartnett last thursday. now reports of a possible threat against other officers. >> the biggest thing is trying to see where this investigation will lead us, to ensure that no more officers are in jep art. >> i 30 year old recalled wards archer remains jailed charged with attempted murder of officer hartnett. meantime fbi has joined philadelphia police to investigate a disturbing tip that came in over the weekend. the source, woman, who told

police, that archer quote is part of a group that consists of three others, that archer is not the most radical of the four, and that the threat to police is not over. the tipster also alleges that archer and the others may have been radicalized at west philadelphia area mosks. >> we're not aware of that, we're not aware that he was at all involved in any of our events. >> shot, bleeding heavily. >> late thursday night police say officer hartnett survived archer's hail of close range gunfire, to shoot and wound archer leading to his capture in west philadelphia. the 18th district officer was hit three times, in his left arm. >> were being overrun from calls from around the nation. and with great pride i was able to tell him and his family that. and obviously they tiered up little bit. >> and police will patrol in pairs until further notice. and the commissioner's urging anyone who may have tips regarding threats to officer's safety to bring that

information forward. at police headquarters, justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". meanwhile, former philadelphia police commissioner, charles ramsey, has a new gig. the law enforcement veteran will serve as public safety consultant for wilmington, delaware, he will also assist with violence reduction initiatives throughout the city. ramsey who required at commissioner last week, also serves as a chair on president obama's task force, on 21st century policing. bensalem police are investigating an attempts carjacking at wawa gas station. part of the incident was caught on surveillance cameras. it happened last night, just before 6:30. investigators say, the victim was sitting in her car at the wawa on route one, when that suspect grabbed her door, and opened it. he covered the victim's mouth and told her to keep quiet, but she fought back and honked the horn. the suspect described as an african-american man in his 20's dark pants, hooded sweatshirt, knit cap, gloves. officials believe that this is the same man who attempt

topped carjack someone at the same location last month. a store owner fights back against alleged rob nerves south philadelphia. three suspect attempt topped pull off armed robbery at miss jesse's stop and shop at 12th and christian street around 8:30 this morning. the owner of the store, shot the suspect, killing one of them. police apprehended the second suspect but a third remains at large this noon. >> schools in the area were put on lockdown as a precaution, but lifted around 9:30. >> got away with atm machine tide to the bumper after suv. surveillance cameras shows it happening at the eagle gags station, 5100 block of umbria street in roxborough. happened last thursday morning. see the suspect there ties the rope around the machine, connect it to the bumper, to free it. he then throws it in his gray or blue vehicle, takes off, if you recognize him or the vehicle you are asked to call police. the search is on for the cause of an early morning fire

that destroyed a popular bucks county buffet restaurant and damaged several other shops. flames tore through the hong kong king buffet, on the 700 block of bustleton pike in feasterville. happened just before 1:00 this morning. three other shops were damaged including one specializes in prom fashions, and they tell us that this fire strikes just as the season is getting underway. >> now it is probably the worse time it could happen to us. and it is hard lost for any of the people in the plaza, david's bridal, hong kong, just awful. >> bridal store and gift shop also sustained smoke and water damage. david's bridal says they'll keep customers in the loop on the merchandise and appointments, fortunately, there were no injuries. water main break also in bucks county was causing problems for drivers. check it out. main broke around route 413 between new falls road and bath road in bristol around

until we head into next weekend. so here is the temperature trend. again, the warm air is gone. any time soon really. we came 65, yesterday, that's the record, new record for philadelphia, today struggle to get to the mid 30's, tomorrow little bump in the temperatures, maybe couple of degrees above average, low 40's, then back at it with the cold arctic air, for the second half of the work week. and then warming up again as we head toward the weekend. but look at this crazy temperature change, compared to 24 hours ago, if you were outside yesterday afternoon enjoying little sunshine, with warm temps, now we're anywhere 28 to 33 degrees colder, compliment of the cold arctic air, 30 at the airport in allentown, 31 in reading, 34 in philadelphia. if you thought we're cold, check it out, other side of the state, pit burying 18 hours at this hour, 21 state college, not even factoring in the wind. stays cold today. you can see the flow in the satellite and radar, coming out of the west to northwest. so you know that's cold air, coming out of the great lakes. we do have snow showers near chicago, that's developing storm system, that will bring

a round of snow showers for us coming in late tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening, fast moving clipper system, with some little moisture with it, and then we get the second surge of arctic air coming in wednesday, hine that system so highs running five to 10 degrees below average wednesday, so we struggle to low 30's for the afternoon highs. today no problem. sunshine little winnie, there goes the high pressure system, here is the next weak storm coming in later tomorrow afternoon, triggering off few snow showers, temperatures will be above freezing though. low 40's for highs, even with the snow is falling, we will be above freezing, then wednesday, we get the cold air back in there with some sunshine highs only in the low 30's, stays cold thursday, even with the sun. all right, let's time everything out for you. today a lot of sunshine, tonight, skies mainly clear, the clouds will thicken up tomorrow. morning okay. early afternoon, no problem. after 4:00 we start to see some flurries, snow showers, breaking out specially north and west of the city into the lehigh valley around philadelphia, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 best shot, few flakes,

this isn't anything heavy. temperatures stay above freezing, by 11:00, 12:00 that system out of here. there are the temperatures tomorrow cold in the 20's, but highs reach the 40's, as the snow showers come through, look at that, temperatures still in the upper 30's, to around 40, and then we bring those temps back down for wednesday. today 36 degrees for the high. tonight we drop to 26. and then here is the extended forecast, late day flurries tuesday, cold and dry through the rest of the week, some showers saturday highs in the upper 4
