good evening i'm ukee washington. aim's jessica dean. the leslie van arsdal joining us now and leslie social media is blowing upright now with a lot of reports about one particular coach. >> it has been, quite a day, the latest rumor we have right now, les bow even of the philadelphia daily news is reporting that the next head coach of the philadelphia eagles will be doug pederson. we are working to confirm that report but what we do know is that chip kelly will be the 20th head coach in 49ers history. chip kelly was hired by 49ers, yes, this has many people shaking their heads. >> a bit shocked because he can't coach to save his life. >> good riddings, i don't care i'm an eagles fan. i want eagles to win the super bowl. >> he got rid of the good people. i don't understand why. >> reporter: the 49ers fired their coach after five-11 season. they have 12 draft picks to go with 40 million in cap space. they also have colin kaepernick who is healthy, could be that dynamic quarterback that kelly has always wanted, able to beat

"eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff shows us how a local teen earned her trip to san francisco because of her award winning idea. >> it is craving for a little competition that sparked the idea 13 year-old sierra. >> all of the kid in this school they compete in an on line math program and especially the second grade my sister's class, again, very competitive with it, so i figured combine all of the ideas and make it help. >> reporter: eighth grader at our lady of calvary she entered a competition in the fall backed by software giant sap, and hosted by the g enu foundation. challenge to create a app that tackles health issues at school. >> my idea was a health and wellness app for grade school students at our lady of calvary to earn .7 word based on their competing in different health challenges like a fitness challenge. >> reporter: her idea beat out

biggest game of the year, here on february the seventh. well, one week ago today a philadelphia police officer was ambushed by a gunman in west philadelphia a tonight, the fbi is looking into whether the a attack was an act of terrorism. eye witt the necessary news reporter walt hunter is outside fbi headquarters in center city with the latest on the investigation, walt. >> reporter: top fbi agent in america, director james comby began his visit to philadelphia today with the quiet, bedside visit, to wounded police officer jesse hartnett, and then hours later, at a press conference here at fbi headquarters in philadelphia, he made it clear the investigation of this vicious act is now being handled as an investigation of an act of terrorism. >> we at the fbi level through our joint terrorism task force are investigating that attack as a terrorist attack. >> reporter: hours after stopping by for a ten minute bedside visit with wounded philadelphia police officer

jesse hartnett, fbi director james comby explained the the bureau began its terror probe minutes after accused attacker edward archer allegedly confessed, claiming he did it in the name of islam. >> statements about allegiance to foreign terrorist organizations, motivation, even without anything else would lead to us look at it through the the terrorism lens. >> reporter: forty-eight hours after hartnett was ambushed inside his car suffering three devastating bullet wound to his left arm, police received information from an informant that there was still a threat to police and that in addition to archer, three alleged accomplices, might be planning more anti police violence. but director comby stated that the fbi is not seeking the three individuals and as of right now there is no evidence of wider terrorist ties or threats. >> we see no indication that he was part of an organized cell of any sort, and no indication that there is any

follow on plot connected to that. >> this appalling attack is a vivid reminder of the dangers that the the men and women who wear the police uniforms around the country face on a daily basis. >> reporter: senator pat toomey made these comments shortly after a mid-morning briefing by the fbi and later mayor james kenney also spoke out, after talking with philadelphia police. cautioning, the investigation in his opinion, hasn't definitively linked the officer's attack to terrorism. >> the fbi has not concluded and philadelphia police have concluded that thinks an act of terrorism. they are investigating it, as it could be. >> reporter: finally at the press conference here the fbi director made it clear that this investigation is very far from being over and at some point it could well become a federal prosecution. live at fbi headquarters in philadelphia, i'm walt hunter,

cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> walt, thank you. a little relief from that bitter cold today but we are tracking wet weather, meteorologist lauren casey is on the cbs-3 sky deck tonight with more, lauren. >> feeling not too bad out here right now, pretty comfortable, still got winter coat, chill but at least a breeze is letting up and temperatures is also bumping up over the last hour. we have warmed up down the shore 52 degrees is your current, 45 in philadelphia, and not too cold in the poconos at 28 degrees. storm scan three is showing us quiet conditions across the region just patchy clouds especially north of the city and as we head into the day tomorrow, light wind and mild temperatures climbing up into the the 50's, we will keep mild air around for first half of the weekend but throw in the chance of rain starting tomorrow night and as we head into next week bundling up once again with another shot of arctic air building in, i'll talk about when you can expect high temperatures just barely reaching 30 degrees, coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you, we will see you

then. >> three people who won biggest jackpot in lottery history were not in our region but we have some local ticket hold hours scored pretty big. three stores in pennsylvania sold million-dollar tickets matching all five numbers but not the power ball. ticket sold at a wawa in new jersey, also matched all five, but that person won double the prize, two million-dollar because they added a multiplier. between church street and texas avenue where main broke at 7:30 this morning. traffic in that section of the street is still being detoured in both directions, until 8:00 . the just yesterday another sewer lane broke on hartford road and that one has been retired. two philadelphia police officers are recovering this evening after a violent crash involving an alleged drunk driver. 209 year-old driver is in custody after police say he slammed into the officers at the intersection of b street and west moreland in the fair hill section late last night. the driver is facing at least two charges, dui and resisting arrest, all of the injuries are non-life threatening. former philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey picked up another new job. >> beginning january 25th ramsey will guest lecture at drexel university and serve as an advisor to the criminology and justice studies department. on money was hired as a public safety consultant for wilmington delaware. ramsey retired from the philadelphia police department last week. still to come tonight a debilitating condition that has derailed a local

on the cbs-3 healthwatch an alarming new research about teenage girls and kidney stones. >> stephanie stahl is here with the study that came right here from philadelphia a's children's hospital. >> people will tell thaw having kidney stones can be as painful as child birth, and while common, they usually have been a problem for older men. well, this new research from children's hospital find a new surprising group of patients. >> the pain will get better. >> sixteen year-old, vittoria has been living in misery from kidney stones. she has had five surgeries and often depend on narcotics. >> it is more of a sharp pain. >> my stomach area, and it is like that. all i can do is lay in bed. i don't go to school, i don't see my friends. >> reporter: vittoria is part of the growing trend female teenagers developing kidney

stones. >> like it is not an old man's disease. that is not a thing for teenage girls. >> reporter: it used to be mostly a problem for middle-aged white men but new research from children's hospital of philadelphia shows adolescent girls, especially african americans, have experienced a two to 5 percent increase in kidney stones. >> it is the youngest patients that are experiencing the greatest growth in stones. >> reporter: urologist gregory toshawn who conduct the study shows genetics, dehydration and a lot of salt increase risk of kidney stones but it is not known what is causing the spike among teenagers. >> it highlights need for future trials, future research. >> reporter: back of the lack of awareness vittoria had trouble being accurately diagnosed and treated. she and her mom who has also had kidney stones just recently moved to chester county. they are relieved she's being treated a at chop which is leading the waste in research on the issue. >> i'm thankful that more people will be aware, they will look at her and think i have never heard of anybody, any teenage girl having kidney

stones. >> reporter: instead of ct scans to diagnosis kidney stones in teens which exposes them to radiation, chop using ultrasound first and there are a variety of surgical treatment and in addition to shock wave therapy. diet is also important and guess what is one thing that really helps? lemons. >> how about that. >> of all things. >> lemon juice, lemonade, it is something that can help prevent kidney stones. >> difficult not know that. >> thanks, stephanie. new at 6:00 the delaware valley is celebrating life, legacy of the doctor martin luther king junior. >> the kimmel center for performing arts hosted a moving tribute to the slain civil rights lead tore day. hundreds of students from local schools, and arts organizations, showcased their talent and thinks the event's 14th year. >> i think today's event really speaks highly of the caliber of our young artists, we have been doing this now so we can commemorate the wonderful legacy of doctor king and make certain that our students are well aware of the

yesterday we had some 20's. our coldest day of the season was a high of 29 degrees. so today we are feeling a lot better, yes, temperatures, rose up in the upper 40's and we are at 45 degrees right now getting a live look at center city. nice quiet evening, the wind starting to calm down as well, southeasterly right now at 9 miles per hour. still a bit of the wind chill impact making it feel like 40 degrees but also good news, sunset time is getting later and later. sunset in philadelphia 4:59 this evening. tomorrow we hit 5:00 o'clock by february 1st, 20 minutes after 5:00 and by march 1st, nearing 6:00 o'clock. as you get home from work the sunnies still out or will be as we head in the next couple months because we are gaining one minute of daylight each day, and that is, nice to hear. the also, positive, are the numbers, temperature change over the last 24 hours we are up above 20 degrees in philadelphia, up about 21 degrees in wilmington after a cold day yesterday and now that was after we had a record

high temperature on sunday. do you remember that? might be way back in the distant back of your memory because of the 29 degrees high temperature. today we have bump it up 47. our average high about 40 degrees. we are above that. temperatures right now they are chilly but not too brutal. forty-six in ac. thirty-seven in trenton. coming in at 38 degrees. reading. overnight tonight dropping down to 38 degrees. the less wind. partly cloudy conditions. we have a good looking day tomorrow. cloud increasing but mild temperatures and wind stay light all throughout the day, after a few blustery days this week. we will top off at 52 degrees, tomorrow. storm scan three showing us pretty quiet conditions, patchy clouds, especially north of the city. otherwise very quiet conditions, future weather will show us we will start off with some sunshine tomorrow morning and mostly cloudy by the afternoon. if you have plans late tomorrow night bring the the umbrella along. call it an early night you don't need it because rain shield is moving in.

the second half of the evening. rain coming down tomorrow night especially philadelphia points south and east could see heavy rain especially down the shore overnight tomorrow. then quickly moving on out. we could see few lingering showers first part of the morning on sat the day. as we head in the afternoon gradual clearing. if you need that outdoor exercise in, saturday afternoon is going to be the time to do it. i don't think you will want to do it on mlk day. indoor day, holiday. sun, clouds, cold, blustery with that arctic air returning. a high of only 30 degrees. on sunday a high of 37. we could see an evening passing, snow shower but pretty uneventful and a lot of sunshine next week but a chill as well with high temperatures in the 30's through next thursday. >> appreciate it. >> thanks, lauren.
