winter weather is back and it looks like, it is here to stay for a while. crust continue has a check of the temperatures and a chance for flurries to day. plus, just hours, after ane motional vigil, police make an arrest with the thanksgiving day murder of ryan kill any port richmond. and one of the marines missing after two military helicopters crashed off hawaii's cozies from philadelphia. the latest from the search effort. today is sunday january 17th, good morning i'm rahel solomon. here's meteorologist just continue drabick with eyewitness weather. justin, we have a chance of flurries. >> not a big deal but we are in the sign of the winter pattern that will bring in cold air, and certainly tomorrow. yesterday we were in the 50's. >> we cannot complain too much. >> that winter weather lovers will like this forecast. >> yes. >> we cannot do anything about it. >> a few flurries may fly this afternoon. don't be surprised to see that mainly from the city south and

morning. >> reporter: good morning. rahel. police arrested davis ramos junior in connection with the murder of the, 21 year-old ryan kelly. kelly was found lying in the streets bleeding from his chest, early thanksgiving day morning. >> holding candles and wearing t-shirts in solidarity, friends and family gathered in this park to remember ryan kelly, a 21 year-old man whom they say was always happy and smiling. kelly was fund shot in the chest and bleeding, in the 3500 block offal monday street less than a block from his port richmond home on thanksgiving morning. kelly died later that day and police say motive was likely robbery and went on the hunt for kelly's killer. >> they are armed and dangerous, the fact that they committed a number of robberies, they are arm, they have committed a a homicide. >> reporter: surveillance video released last september shows two suspects trying to use a stolen atm card at a nearby td bank.

police linked that to kelly's murder with the city offering a $20,000 reward in the case. police got a break in the case on saturday morning when they arrested 18 year-old david ramos, junior, on frankford avenue without incident. the family and friend, continued to mourn, the loss of ryan kelly a young man, family man who fell victim to a senseless crime and was taken from those who loved him far too soon. again, that suspect's name is david ramos, junior, he faces murder, robbery and other charges, in connection with kelly's murder. no word yet on the status of the the second suspect, linked to that case. live from police headquarters, cherri gregg for kyw news radio for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> cherry, thank you. a philadelphia and adams county man are among 12 marines that went missing after two helicopter crashed off hawaii. thirty-one year-old captain brian kennedy is from philadelphia and among those

missing. the rescue times are expanding their search this morning. two helicopters each carrying six marines went down on thursday, just off of the northern shore. officials say high surf is dispersing the debris and complicating the search and rescue effort. >> i know that people are focusing on debris but we are still focusing on finding survivors. >> finding ways to bring them home. marines first. >> reporter: the causes under investigation. this morning a man is fighting for his life following the shooting in north philadelphia. a suspect shot victim multiple times in the head. "eyewitness news" on the 1700 block of edgeley street around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. the victim is between 25 and 30 years old and rushed to temple university hospital where he is listed in critical condition. police have not made any arrests. five americans who were imprisoned in iran are in the the process of being freed this morning. the prisoner swap was confirmed, shortly before it

well, good morning. it is sunday january 17th, i'm rahel solomon. meteorologist justin drabick is out on the cbs-3 sky deck with eyewitness weather. justin, good morning to you. yesterday was so warm, i saw people walking outside without a coat, different this week, just a little. >> typical mid-january stuff. yesterday we were dealing with the heavier rains, this morning nice and dry but here comes the cloud and that is the rule today cloudy skies with cooler temperatures close to average upper 30's to 40's. wind are calm. no harsh wind chills this morning. thirty-five is official at the airport. thirty in millville and atlantic city. twenty-eight in mount pocono. coldest spots are some of the suburbs in the upper 20's. that is not terrible for this

time of the year. late tonight when we will bring in colder air. wind from calm to six, 7 miles per hour out of the north west, that is about it. you know call it somewhat comfortable out here this morning. storm scan three is quiet, a few peaks of some sunshine throughout the morning hours otherwise generally mostly cloudy skies, later this afternoon there will be a storm that passes off to the south and east that could brush south jersey a and delaware with snow showers, maybe snow showers get here in the city. not a big deal. temperatures in the the 20's and 30's this morning, this afternoon in the much warmer, upper 30's to 40 degrees if we're lucky. forecast high near 40 for philadelphia upper 30's at the shore with the best chance those locations to see the snow showers, poconos not that bad, in the a bad day for skiing, riding with a high of 31 degrees. big difference tomorrow though because tonight arctic cold front will pass in the region and should come through dry and a stray snow shower up in the poconos, big story is win, cold behind that front.

we are talking about highs tomorrow only in the 20's but it will feel like single digits. we will break down that full forecast in a few more minutes, rahel, back to you. just in police are investigating a double shooting in philadelphia's glenwood neighborhood two. people were shot in the 2600 block of north broad street, shortly after 6:00 this morning. the men were found near the the station's home less shelter. no details if the shooting happened inside or outside the shelter. we do know both were taken to temple hospital, their condition is unknown. cherri gregg is heading there now and we will have a live report in the next half an hour. a fire fighter saves the the life while off-duty. he was in the right place at the right time. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan has the details. >> reporter: thirty-six years on the job east brandywine deputy fire chief joseph edward isn't running up ladders anymore but being in the new year he wants to get back in shape. friday he went to planet fitness in downingtown and in less than 15 minutes a work out turned into first

responder work when a man collapsed on the treadmill in front of him. >> he hit his head hard, started to bleed from the back of the head and was unresponsive. >> reporter: edward had planet the fitness staff called 911 and bring over their automated external defribillator known as a aud. edward put the the pad on the man's chest and did a round of cpr until it is time to shock. >> right after you shock the patient you are to do two more minutes of cpr. aed will count down, it will tell you one more minute to go, 30 more seconds to go. >> reporter: after two rounds of cpr and one shock the victim regained a pulse. he went to brandywine hospital for further care and this morning called the fire company to thank edward. >> thinks spirits were high and he will have more tests to see what was going on and they hope for a speedy recovery. >> reporter: edward said even though he was in the right place at the right time to help the man having a aed red liz a railable was the real

on the cbs-3 healthwatch potatoes are linked to pregnant women developing diabetes. health reporter stephanie stahl is here with more on the new research. >> reporter: laurie sinberg never thought twice about eating a baked per tait owen before she was expecting. >> we were pretty balanced healthy diet bring was pregnant. yeah, potatoes are part of my diet. >> reporter: new study from the national institutes of health found eating potatoes before conceiving may be linked to gestational diabetes. >> potatoes elevate blood sugar in people more than just about any other type of food. so, they are carbohydrates, and all carbohydrates have that potential.
