hey, winter finally arrived, right? a look right now at atlantic city boardwalk yesterday. it was really coming down, as snow kick off a rush of arctic air, hit owing you are area this week. katie and meisha joining us now, and that snowy imagine causes some slick spots this morning, meisha, what do you think? >> the roads are looking little different this morning than what we saw later last week. it will progress through the morning, it it is a little what we can expect. first, happy martin luther day to both of you. kicking off brand new week. so what's in store in everybody is wondering about the snow. >> absolutely, eventually it, does look like we've got pretty decent chance to see some substantial snow region wide toward the ends of the week. at this point it is still just chance. but pretty good one. so let's just sort of back things up here. take you outside. start things off by taking you in fact to one of the live shots at the shore, specifically going to ocean city cape may county where it is snow covered boardwalk, folks, and yes, we did see some pretty decent snow come through down across the shore points, disturbance that just got too close for comfort, and

here's a look at some of the area snow totals. just shy of 3 inches in ac. cape may 2 inches, sicklerville, 1 inch, mt. laurel and at philadelphia international airport, we officially ended up with half inch of snow on the ground. so, we are finally measuring not serious snow, but something that's actually measurable, more than a trace from what we've already seen so farment winter finally here, a wintery week, storm scan still showing few hints, signs of life here, might see quick flurry out there, damage is essentially done at this point. the system that brought in yesterday's snow is now gone. rapidly intensifying well off to the northeast. but it is to has left behind its arctic black of air. look at the area feels-like values, anywhere from the 20's to the teens, to single ding to its even negative territory, what it feels like right now. and you have got to factor in the wind throughout the day today. that is what makes or breaks you. winds speeds as high as 20, 25, plus, miles per hour out there. and again, you have to factor that in. can you not go by the face value thermometer readings

some 1800 project spread throughout the region here at girard college the signature event, where in just couple of hours 5,000 volunteers will converge here for number of activities. tom bernstein here, the founder and director of the greater philadelphia martin luther king day of service, todd, big day ahead, long day, great day with a loft events. what's going on? >> well, girard college, this is our signature event, we'll have regular service project, hands on kind of activities, wok shops, training, health and wellness fares, civic engagement expose, 500 job seekers chasing among 26 employers, celebrating economic justice and the mayor and governor will be at this project right next to us, where they will be sorting, arranging and packing clothing that will be donated to low income and unemployed men and women seeking employment. >> that's big service event, packing, tagging, sorting of clothes? >> among about 100 other different activities, but

that's sort of central focus of the day. >> this is the 21st year for this event here. but it is also a very important anniversary, as well, talk a little bit about that. >> well, it is 60th anniversary of the montgomery bus boy, speaks to both racial and economic justice, we look back when rosa parks said no to giving up her seat on the bus, and what one person can do. and i think that that's appropriate for today, because we have 140,000 individuals who can each make a difference, but if we harness the resources of human capitol, of just great energy that we're having today, we can get that much more accomplished. >> great. and the theme this year is justice, on number of different issues. >> right. so economic and social justice, we are certainly familiar with, and there is environmental justice, and religious justice, and

particularly because of what's been going on in the country, in the last year or so, in terms of the attention that it has got with police community relations, i think it is real important. we'll also have group of student and police marching over here from eastern state penetentary to talk about these issues that affect young people. >> todd, thank you so much. i know you have long day. people will start filing in here volunteers right around 6:00 this morning, we have registration tore all of the events at 8:00 really kick things off at 9:00. we'll observe here for it all. now, back to you until the studio. >> jan carabeo, thank you so much. there are number of events going around, going on around our area today. go to cbsphilly.com for more information on that. >> now, new this morning, stolen car crashes in philadelphia's olney neighborhood. now, police are looking for several men that they say got out and ran. investigators say, they tried to stop the stolen suv when it crashed at crescent ville road and adams avenue. officers searched for the men in a wooded area, but so far, have not found them.

>> search and rescue effort continue for 12 marines, whose helicopter crashed off the hawaiian island of a wahee late thursday. one of the marines captain brian t kennedy is from philadelphia. another missing marine is sergeant adam c shoulder from gardner's pennsylvania. large waves have hampered the search effort, how much, some debris that officials say could be from the helicopters has been found. no word yet on what may have caused that crash. three americans are resting in germany after they were released by iran in a prisoner swap. following the exchange, the united states and five other world powers lifted economic sanctions on iran, and freed billions in frozen assets. all of this was part of the landmark nuclear deem reached in july. president obama waited until the americans were out of iranian air space before saluting them yesterday. they were united and welcoming home sons and husbands and brothers, who in lonely prison cells have endured absolute nightmare.

and meisha. a lot of people are going out today to volunteer and want to bundle up. >> it will be cold. you said it, 28 degrees, that's going down there. a lot of kids off school today. hopefully them a stay indoors. roadways are being look good. in terms of wetter what are we dealing with? >> we had the snow that came through last night. careful walking out the door today. if it did snow where you're locate, maybe you have the little icy glaze out on the front stoop or on my drive in this morning, the icy spot ended up being my driveway. so if you didn't perhaps treat your own area there, at home, that could be a little slick this morning. however, the other big story of course the fact it is so cold outside. as we start things offer by taking you to the live neighborhood network look closely, yes, got little snow out there on the boardwalk here at rehoboth beach. 29 degrees the current temp. not terribly breezy according to this particular observation, but it is out there, that wind, and it is definitely making it feel a
