compromised, 21st closed, avoid the area. crew are still working at the scene. also construction northeast extension north bound from the pa turnpike to lansdale that is all clear for those in and around that area which is great news, erika, back over to you. new this morning a house fire has killed a man in new castle county. fire fighters responded just after 10:30 last night to this home on the 2600 block of abington road, in dartmouth woods which is in tallyville. once fire fighters got inside they found that man's body. an investigation is underway into how that fire started. meanwhile fire investigators in philadelphia are expect to return to the scene of this center city fire, meisha mentioned moments ago. that fire was intense and scary for people barely escaped with the clothes on their backs. still out the here dousing the apartments with water as they monitor hot spots. now those have left. later today fire investigators will take on the task of figuring out what started the blaze, this is as two dozen residents are left wondering what is next flames and thick black smoke filled this rittenhouse square neighborhood tuesday night, chopper three over the 2100 block of locust street as the the fire grew from one alarm to four. >> it is pretty scary. you don't know which way wind will blow or spread. >> reporter: twenty-one apartment here and two neighboring homes were evacuated as fire fighters work for more than two hours to get flames under control. below freezing temperatures and a nasty wind chill made it a tough fight and even tougher. >> make sure members don't slip and fall on the ice but then if you don't keep water flowing your helps lines can freeze up too. >> reporter: red cross kept residents warm buy transforming trinity church into a shelter.

>> it is so cold and there is so many people and like dogs, babies, and it is just terrible. >> really sad that this has happened. i'm glad to hear everybody is out. >> reporter: no residents were hurt but two fire fighters did suffer minor injuries. they are expected to be okay. investigators believe fire started in the basement and worked its way up causing the the building to partially collapse. >> once it is safe we will have l and i come out to make sure building is safe. then we can get inside and determine what the origin and causes. >> reporter: in the meantime red cross is now helping seven families, with no place to stay. many of these residents have been left with nothing. you can see that the scene is clearing but for the time being locust street between 21st and 22nd is still closed. is there salt in the area as well. the streets department was out here earlier to try to make sure this ice didn't build up because of course it is a frigid morning but if you do come through this morning very early while this road is closed you want to plan for a

detour. we are live, jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". busy night for philadelphia fire fighters, two people recovering this morning after this row home fire. "eyewitness news" at 1600 block of westerly high avenue in north philadelphia last night. victim injuries are said to be minor. the cause of the fire is under investigation. still no decision on whether students will have the day off at allen locke elementary one day after bitter cold forced them to close. malfunction caused heat to go out in the west philadelphia school yesterday, students were dismissed early. district says missed class time will be made up throughout the year. new eagles head coach doug pederson gets to work today trying to turnaround a team that missed the playoffs for the the the last two seasons. sports director don bell spoke to pederson about the the traits he thinks will lead to success in philadelphia. >> i'd like to welcome back doug pederson and introduce him as the next head coach of the philadelphia eagles.

doug? >> reporter: doug pederson is last man standing, owner jeffery lurie said eagles had a list of 25 candidates, they have narrowed it down to ten and pederson ultimately got the call. >> i will tell you at the end of the search this was a easy call. >> reporter: just eight years ago pederson was coaching high cool will football will but he spent 19 years in the nfl as a player and coach which has prepared him for this moment. >> to the people that i have been surrounded with in my career, the don shulas, mike holmgren, andy reid, being a part of the championship organizations, green bay packers, kansas city chiefs and being part of the philadelphia eagles has prepared me for this opportunity. >> reporter: when chip kelly was fired lurie said he wanted a coach with emotional intelligence. pederson's personality and connection with players was a huge factor in whether he got this job. >> you have to be comfortable in your own skin in order to be able to reach out, be genuine with those you want to get high performance from, being accountable to them and

of it. >> reporter: clinton still holds a strong lead over sanders nationally but recent polls show her beating her two to one in new hampshire. don champion for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". tragedy leaves another republican presidential hopeful doctor ben carson to suspend his campaign. a ran crash in iowa killed a volunteer and injured three others. police say driver hit a passerby on interstate 80, across median and was broadsided by pickup truck. the the driver and two others suffered minor injuries. >> i saw video sent in last night, he was just so energetic. the it was amazing what he was doing. >> doctor carson tweeted this photo of himself and campaign volunteer brayden joslin with the the message, rest in peace brayden joslin. our thoughts and prayers are with his family. a gun battle will is underway right now at a pakistani university after

jamie foxx has played a villain on the big screen but now call him a real life super here's. oscar winner saved a map by pulling him out of the burning truck. the brittany hopper spoke with foxx about that dramatic rescue. >> reporter: emotional father walks down the driveway with actor jamie foxx after thanking foxx for saving his son's life. >> he was here when he needed to be here. he was here for my son. as far as i'm concern he saved his life. >> so you said you were able -- >> we pulled him out. we pulled him out. >> reporter: truck lost control, rolled several times and then burst into flames outside jamie foxx house monday night. it was foxx who helped pull the young man to safety. >> we saw the the fire, and it extend out of the cabin, pulled him out, and as we pulled him out, within five seconds later the truckings up.

>> reporter: foxx posted this instagram picture of him hugging the man's father writing god had his arms wrapped around all of us. it shows truck flipped over and completely charred as fire fighters put out rest of the flames. police say the driver was 30 year-old brett kyle. >> he didn't have to do anything like i said earlier, i think we all hoped that we could do something when the time is there but the the question is, do we? do we act. >> reporter: foxx is known for playing many rolls including hero in his blockbuster movies. yes, he still doesn't consider saving a man's life heroic. >> i don't look at it as heroic, i just look at it as you just had to do something. it all just worked out. >> reporter: police say the driver, suffered from some burns and was sent to the hospital, but, he was also, arrested for driving under the influence. for cbs news i'm brittany hospital inner west lake

village, california. now, some incredible video you have to see to believe. take a look at your screen if you can. dash cam shows moment pickup truck goes tumbling sending a passenger flying 65 feet into the air. this happened in brazil. authorities say that driver was under the influence at the time but miraculously that passenger is in stable condition. >> wow. willing to brave the cold you can see a very special site in the skies, you can see five planets all at once. this is first time in more than a decade that mercury, venous, saturn, mars and jupiter are visible at the same time. best time to see these planets is in about an hour or so before sunrise which is 6:15. astronomer our favorite guy too derrick pit from the franklin institutes will join us in the next hour so you know which planets we are looking at. we have a clear sky. katie is on the skies deck. is it clear enough to see those planets. >> i think so, we are bying

our time even though so many are looking ahead here to the winter storm. it is not here yet. we have a nice quiet beginning to the morning. frankly it is not as harsh. officially sunrise will be at 7:19 here in philadelphia. but i do want to show you another disturbance looming. now this looks worse then it will be for us. the bulk oven why i with this disturbance across western tennessee with heavy snow and ice there, that stays to our south. we are expect to go see a quick flurry, snow shower tonight, that is it. now, looking a lot more lackluster is what we will end up becoming a very significant storm. look up over idaho, montana, beginning of the signs of life here on the radar from what will eventually become a storm, for us. so lets walk you through. we have first disturbance out of here watch what happens. do you see things blossom in arkansas, louisiana and mississippi. that is beginning of the storm. it will get cut off from any low, grab lots of moisture and then it heads our way.

because we're on the cold side it looks like a heavy duty snow producer for us starting as early as p.m. time frame on friday and lingering through most of saturday. the lots of time to pile up some snow. for now, all is calm, all is clear, quiet, not as windy but it is cold. want example, 19 degrees at boardwalk plaza in rehoboth beach but we will get to you 35 degrees. granted 5 degrees below average but it has been colder in recent mornings. as we move forward in the forecast, mid up toker, 30's through weekend. timing is everything with this storm. it could ab lot worse but the second half of friday is when that snow is set to start and then it will linger through most of saturday before gradually tapering awe way or getting taken out to sea as we hit second half of the weekend but it looks like we will to have finally break out those snow shovels and i plan to hire someone, what but. >> i'm right there with you. there is no way i did years of

that and ill will's tell you what, it is a work out, that is good news but it is not fun. the blue route, taillight moving in the north bound direction at the schuylkill. this is north bound direction looking good as we can see plenty of taillights, and plenty of headlights moving in the southbound direction at the schuylkill as well. so for those in and around this area we are slowly starting to heat up. nothing to be concerned with. roadways are nice and try. the here's 422, this is past route 29, looking good here, as well, although i will say we will see this heat up probably within the next 30 minutes or so but for now we are looking good right there as well. disable vehicle has all been cleared, schuylkill eastbound past montgomery we are seeing flashing signs from old construction. is there some construction here disable vehicle has been taken care of. you are looking good there as well. we have construction on the ac expressway garden state parkway to route nine, right lane is block and this is going to be blocked until 5:00 n

on the healthwatch a new reason to watch what you eat when you eat at a restaurant. new survey find 92 percent of meals served in the u.s. restaurant are packed with too many calories. the the researchers tested food from 123 fast food and regular sit down restaurant they found that the american, chinese and italian restaurants served the most calorie loaded meals. new jersey smoking age will not change after governor chris christie refused to sign a bill that would have have boosted the states smoking age to 21. that means you can still buy tobacco products in new jersey as long as you are 19 years old. the law would have find retailers for selling

cigarettes, e cigarettes or other products to anyone younger than 21. the governor did not specifically say why he vetoed that bill. michigan's governor is promised to go release e-mails today relating to the water crisis in flynt. cbs news correspond omar villafranca reports, governor rick snyder address that had controversy last night. >> reporter: michigan governor rick snyder has apologized to flynt resident about their poisoned water. >> i'm sorry, and i will fix it. >> reporter: snyder said he will release all of his e-mails to the public on wednesday. >> you deserve accountability. >> reporter: flynt's water trouble started in april 2014 when the city left detroit water system and drew water from the flynt river to save money. the despite assurance is it was safe residents complained about the water's smell, taste and appearance. in september 2015, a group of doctors found dangerously high levels of lead in flynt children's blood. the the city switched back to detroit water in october but flynt pediatrician who first
