down the shore it wasn't snow but flooding. causing major problems. several the threat isn't over yet. storm scan 3 at this hour you can see the last remnants of the storm system. this as winter storm we'll be talking about for years to come. good evening after one i'm ukee washington. >> i'm jessica dean. we have a team of reporter spread out across the region. with updates from the shore to the suburbs we start with kate bilo. you have tracked this pretty much what, 24 hours its been going down. how is it looking now. finally seeing the end of the storm. it is moving out. the last bands of snow are impacting the shore.

remember i told you we could see happen band of snow. maybe an a portions of ocean county right on down kent and sussex county in delaware light snow and another back kevin. flurries moving through philadelphia. from the city to points northwest west. what you have is what will remain. the landscape may look different when you wake up tomorrow morning all the snow is going to be blowing driftting around all night as winds do remain strong. our quote unquote blizzard of 2016 coming o an end in philadelphia. you can see nothing falling. quote unquote blizzard i didn't find any spot in our area that met the official criteria for a blizzard. which is three hours of sustained winds. visibility between a quarter mile. find a couple spots that came throws to the criteria. allentown.

that breaks a record setback in blizzard f nicks when allentown is at 25.six inches we broke it by a half a foot. basically what we are saying we have a whole winter worth of snow in just one storm. pretty amazing. in philadelphia so far 20.eight inches. we've heard a few rumblings. they may not take another one until midnight. that will be higher because this was taken seven p.m.. we have more snow after that. right now.2, we're waiting to see did we make it into the top five. i think we will when the final measurement comes in. pennsylvania did best over two feet of snow in malvern, king of prussia sha certainly in allentown they got close to three feet. in new jersey foot and a half in jackson township. 16.five in trenton. 17 in three, toms river 16.5.

exceed add foot in. both came in with 10 inches of snow, basically we did have dry spot issues that kept totals down south of philadelphia. the storm over performed in north and west suburbs and there was a lot of snow on the cbs3 sky deck. lauren casey joins us. >> reporter: we got robbed a little bit. settling of the snow robbed us without maybe a quarter of an inch here. watching the ruler very closely on the cbs3 sky deck. down to about 18 inch. a little bit closer to 18 and a half. the snow settling in. bumping down our total a little bit of 18 inches incredible. the snow has almost you come to an end in center city philadelphia. you still see flakes. driftting snow as we head into the 24 to 36 hours of the

visibility where the snow has seized has increased dram mit particularly. check that out. perfect visibility in philadelphia. earlier this evening we were at a near zero visibility. visibility is still reduced down the shore right now to about a mile in many locations as we head into tomorrow morning. dealing with driftting snow with gusty winds. slick spots on the roads into the 20s. slick spots will be hard to see they will be snow covered. use extra caution on the roadways even tomorrow, even if the whose road conditions. tomorrow another good. thanks so much. snow flooding fire. continue could batter the jersey shore. right now thousands with out power. firefighter had to rescue an elderly man from his home this is exclusive video from the 300

block. eyewitness news is live in atlantic city with more on the problems at the jersey shore. greg, how is it right now? >> reporter: well jessica still here at the atlantic city board walk blustery conditions. take a look up here at lights. you can still see some snow falling its swirling not falling as much. still significant on snow falling here in an area. the big story all afternoon all today in fact down the jersey shore has been the wind. 20, 30 plus files per hour. gust 50 plus miles per hour. created significant coastal d flooding. >> reporter: down the jersey shore. >> cars getting stranded flooded out. a lot of people panicking grabbing a loaf of bread. brig began teen is is battered

by mother nature. wind gust right now. upward of 50 miles an hour. coastal flooding became a huge issue. it was like maybe half a football field. flooding is a massive problem. high winds also knocked apparitor much of that town. these two sister with snacks and movies walked from dark home to the one place that was open in stone harbor. he hotel on nicksth street. >> we came down for girls weekend. and the. >> reporter: making sure the power is on. everyone said. basically we are prepared, emergency generator is up and running. so even in this storm there can be a little bit of fun. >> we said we're going to have a redo when the weather's better.

>> reporter: back here live it is fire and ice, you can seaboard walk officials having a little bit of fun with us. all of the marquees on on the board walk showing the warm looking fireplace on a cold evening. its great to have some wishful thinking when you see that. once again conditions along the board walk blustery. snow still coming down a little bit. once again the problems are down here the shore all about the wind keying coastal flooding throughout the region. i'm greg argos cbs3 eyewitness news. >> that's a great billboard. thanks. firefighter had to battle the snow and high winds while trying to put out a fire in atlantic county. in a condo building. american red cross is assisting victims. cause of that fire remains under investigation tonight. >> as you saw so many shore towns were hit hard by the storm. the garden state is still in state of emergency. they just got battered all day

tomorrow things will locally return to normal. septa is beginning a four a.m. launch of trolley lines. also, operating starting at four a.m. regional rails and norristown high speed line. philly international airport will slowly resume options tomorrow. >> some parts of the suburbs still many roads remain covered tonight. eyewitness news walt hunter has been bracing conditions in wested county. walt, it looks like conditions are much better. >> reporter: absolutely. we are standing a top a mountain of snow on this shopping center along route 30 in paoli there were mounts of snow in chester county today. fortunately most of the snow was dry, not heavy wet and clingy. as a result few reports of tree limbs down and even fewer reports of downpour lines and outages.

it was plow versus mother nature in the super bowl of storms. crews across chester county struggling to keep the road open. >> crazy. unbelievable. can't keep up with it. trying, can't: u clearing highways for that matter just clearing your windshield nearly impossible. with more than two feet of snow whipped by bitter winds. >> it's crazy out here. it's crazy. >> reporter: everybody seemed to have a storm story. and an unofficial guess as just how much snow had fallen. >> its been a little while. i think we calculate about 30 inches on our campus right now u it as darkness fell so too the flakes. this race to control mother nature passing the 24 hour mark. definitely considered a marathon. two words from officials if you

>> back now with a live look from university city which looks pretty much like a winter wonderland. many places in our region got more than that we're going to check in with kate in just a few minutes. in the meantime some people went face first down the rocky steps. philadelphia museum of art was jam packed. one guy decided to do take his bike it went all right for a minute. >> oh. >> i think he's okay. all these people having a great time. it wouldn't surprise me if there were people still out there right now. >> i think you can count on that. the fun continues tonight as people across the city celebrate the snow day. >> cb s'es out and about watching people embrace this storm including a bride who's wedding was scheduled today.

she joins us from the art museum. you can tell us are people still out there shred ding? >> reporter: there are people still out there. even if you didn't sled down it its a place to watch wipe outside. people had shopping carts, cardboard box, i guess fun is to each its own. a lot of fun was had by myself and also a bride where even snow couldn't stop her from saying i do. check it out. into in a this i say awesome i moved here last may my first big city snow storm i am loving every second of this. >> reporter: when you live in philadelphia you sometimes think you've seen it all. then it takes something un expected like a snow day to uncover the city all over again. like through the eyes of a child shred ding down a snowy hill. >> did you go sleding down the

snowball fight to the art museum in center city. i feel like we've been all over. and i feel like we've been really just hanging out with everyone. and focusing on the positive and that is having fun in philadelphia even in the snow. because that's how we do it. into book. loving it. snow covered. you don't want to be out there tonight. temperatures are in the 20s. it is very cold outside of the the wind feels even colder but looking a whole lot quite are just about three or four hour when that was pushing threw. storm scan 3 shows the very end of the blizzard of 2016. still snowing pretty steadily down the shore and specially ps of ocean county you can see right around southern burlington county, still seeing pretty decent snow falling at the moment the little. everything really rotating out here. through the overnight hours most of this is going to be off the coast. the shore has been dealing with nasty impacts as far as coastal flooding a lot of beach communities under water all day today. a devastating report. beach completely eroded.

my favorite beach town. to see that really sad to see wildwood and north wildwood again seeing all that flooding area. completely under waters. coastal flood warning goes in a to noon on sunday. they will recover. one more high tide to get through before everything really starts to winds down. 7:45 tomorrow morning cape may a high tide around eight a.m.. atlantic city at 7:26. combination of the full moon and high tides made things worse. notice how the winds die down as we head into next week, sunday, wednesday, winds down the shore a whole lot better than than what we've seen this weekend. next high tide around the 7:00 hour o have to assess the area especially once the sunday comes up again for property damage. eyewitness weather watch cheers,

glen more martins creek over two feet says john hall. for the next few days highs going to be above freezing. snow metal during the day. at night below freezing. that means everything is going tory freeze. for the next several days black eyes is. sunday mostly sunday he knee blowing and driftting will continue with northwest winds like we said next week pretty quiet 37 on monday, 44 tuesday, again mild during the day mild enough bit sunday that snow is going to metal. chatter about a storm late next week, there are some signals that there's something. right now out to seat. but it's something to watch. as of right now it looks mild we'll keep you posted. >> a lot of snowfall. a lot of snow has to be removed. >> shovels are out in full force

be out through the evening. the city was shutdown by our major storm now we're nearing an end things will begin to return to normal. philadelphia airport will slowly resume tomorrow. >> work to clear them is under way. natasha brown joins us in university city with a will be at the conditions there. natasha? >> reporter: well ukee we can certainly tell you the snow removal process is in full swing in university city. some of the main roads as you can see they are passable. some the side roads are very much a problem. many of the folks we talked to say they are taking the snow in stride. as night still and temperatures drop philadelphians found themselves getting inside out of the elements even our four legged friends. >> he's from media to spend the weekend for his birthday. >> reporter: happy birthday.

>> didn't know there was going to be a blizzard. >> reporter: more walking in the streets than on snow covered sidewalks. and this guy, well, high found an even better way to get around. >> i'm skiing through philadelphia. the only time i've got tone to do it. i've lived here 23 years never had snow like this. so, i mean, skiing down broad street from girard going to south philly too. >> reporter: as many as 400 snowplows trying to stay ahead of the snow. a snow emergency remains in effect while many in university city reply main earn good spirits despite the weather. >> a bunch of my residents are trapped inside we're getting food to feed them. >> reporter: these flight attendants found themselves stuck in philly waiting out the storm. >> we were coming in from germany then we were supposed to

the storm has finally moved out of our area but not without leaving it's marked. chest county blank ted with snow. >> flooding is the real issue. roads turn into water ways in several shore towns. some say the rising water. into noon the big dig in delaware no more snow flakes in the first state. clean up under way after our major winter storm. january 23rd, 2016 a day that now goes down in weather history. good evening i'm ukee washington. >> i'm jessica dean. kate, the storm finally moving along. finally moving out of here this has been a historic storm for much of the area especially up in lehigh valley certainly in f as w when i was a kid, a young 12 year old during the blizzard

of 96, still having the memories of growing up in a storm like that and kid today are going to have memories of this storm talk about the blizzard of 2016. that's pretty cool. the good news is the timing of the storm made it as walt was mentioning earlier we haven't had a ton of accidents or injuries everyone knew to stay home. by the time you woke up many spots had a foot of snow. people heeded the advice and stayed home and watched it fall from a safe spot. that is great news. last snow falling across portions of new jersey and delaware. light snow showers into philadelphia at the moment. other than that storm pretty much over. what a storm it was. record breaking snow totals. allentown 3 is.7? a. measurement at lehigh valley previously blizzard of nicks there 25.6 inches. allentown the big winner.

collegeville 26 inches. phoenix fill down through the exton area, down toward malvern 28 inches fell. trenton 22 inches. bucks count did very well with over 21 or 22 inches of snow. mount holly 19 and a half. new jersey and new castle diary 13.6. again our top snow storms in philadelphia, just.2 away from december 25th. i think we'll get there once the next measurement comes in. the question is will we beat this one as well. another half inch between 7:00 and now that will make this storm the fourth largest snow storm in philadelphia history. i think this storm deserves that kind of spot in its record books. probably not going to beat this win certainly 30.7 inches.

our totals slightly lower than areas off to north and west. we are still going to be digging out quite some time. had had to big out a spot on the sky deck. >> reporter: i have this little area a snow fort out here now on cbs3 sky deck. we have 18 inches out here. a big snowfall total. and a big taken in the case household today because it was my dog's first time in the snow. i have two dogs, she is just about a year. and it was her first experience. what a first snow storm experience. i couldn't really tell if she liked it or hated it. she was kind of sticking her head in but then she was running away. she looked like she wanted help. i couldn't tell. that's a new jacket. very cute right. a big taken the case household. all across the mid atlanta and the blizzard of 2016. we weren't the only ones as kate was mention six in philadelphia
