4:44 am
start off by a look back at the top, the top snowstorms, in our area. and now we're on the list, guys, from this past one. we are number four, and just shortly ahead of the one that happened in 1983, february 11 through 12th, where we pick up over 21 inches, definitely was historic storm for our area, nothing at this point can beat that blizzards of 96. meanwhile, storm scan3, nice and quiet at this point, we are in the clear at the moment. see nothing more than couple of clouds overhead. very quiet, basically just across the entire eastern seaboard, even further inland toward the mississippi valley. let me show you one more zoom here. this little guy, this is the next disturbance that will be crossing through tomorrow. at this point it looks like it will end up being too warm for anything. basically then plane old rainout of it. but today under the influence of high pressure, that retreat, allows the system to make it advance, then tomorrow late in the day at the earliest, we start to see some showers. notice they are rain showers moving through. and it looks right now like it
4:45 am
will be strictly a rain producer. so, we will keep close watch on the temperature profile which is suggesting we are looking just at some rainout of it. now we obviously had snowy scene the last couple of days, more sun today for you, 37 degrees for the daytime high. that's going to have chance to refreeze, anything that does melt today later tonight once the sun goes down, we drop all the way to 28 degrees. and then again tomorrow, watching for just a rain shower, late, and then maybe even lingering into wednesday morning before it completely clears. thursday looks very quiet. friday, there is going to be a system developing to our south. the question is where does it decide to go? at this point, only calling for the chance after snow shower, perhaps flurry, we will keep close on the movement of that one. right now, no major storms in site, erika, like we said. meantime though, just again watch for the refreezing for now. we send it back to you. >> thanks so much. all right, the teams for superbowl 50, they're all set. we will start with the defending champion patriots battling broncos down to the final seconds too.
4:46 am
new england down eight points with 17 seconds left in regulation. and tom brady hits rob in the back of the end zone. now that he has the two-point conniver son to over time, tom brady's pass is picked, bradley robby makes interception. broncos hang onto win and punch their ticket to santa claire a. no near as close in the nfc title game. watched this last night. carolina panthers took 17 to nothing lead on the arizona cardinals in the first quarter and just poured it on, my gosh, cam newton through for 335 yards, and two touchdowns. and the panthers defense scored seven, or rather, fourth, seven turnovers. panthers scored the most point ever in a conference championship. they beat the cardinals 49 to 15. >> so, that stage is all set. superbowl 50. carolina panthers and denver broncos sunday february 7th, right here on cbs-3. all right, talking basketball now, sixers and celtics finally got to the game. the game was called off saturday night because of the
4:47 am
snow. but the celtics did make it to town yesterday morning. that travel schedule did not hurt the celtics. boston made good use of the sixers 24 turnovers. they beat up the hometown team 112 to 92. the celtics have been beating the sixers seven straight times. the phoenix suns come to town tomorrow night. all right, still ahead this morning on "eyewitness news", no snow day for wall street. just how costly was the storm for businesses? first though, here's what's ahead tonight for cbs-3.

companies report their earnings for the past quarter including big names like amazon, facebook, microsoft and apple. as you said, the mark lets open today after their first positive week of the year. now, on friday, oil prices rebounded, so that sent stocks higher. erika? >> jill, we know up in new york you're digging out from the storm, we are too in philly t had pretty big economic impact. how so? >> reporter: yes, the snow piles up on the east coast, so did the lock in for businesses. experts are putting the price tag at nearly $850 million. so restaurants, these terse, other entertainment venues, they took the biggest hit. other experts, though, they say people just shifted spending. so they stocked up on food, and shovels, and also did some on line shopping and renting movies. if i can speak for myself, that's what i did. i don't know about you, erika? >> i can see netflix stock going up from this past weekends, jill, thanks so much. >> yes, a lot of bing watching. >> absolutely, take care. coming up after the break,

ahead on traffic and weather
4:52 am
4:53 am
>> 4:53, oh, we have the big dig today, katie, how is it looking outside? >> indeed we do. at least we don't have to deal with any weather-related problems from up above. but you will have the temperatures playing a serious role here, when you start to see the snow melting away, hey, that's a good thing, we can get rid of it that the limit but then it refreeze z, any time that temperature drops low enough. so you will have that balancing act that takes effect for the next couple of days. for now storm scan is quiet. it will stay that way all day today. so expect, again, nothing more than a handful of clouds overhead. i want to take you to future weather tomorrow. already another little disturbance will come through. no huge deal at this point. we started off tomorrow morning, 6:00 a.m., then by the afternoon we start to see some showers developing. strictly rain showers, expected, though, because it does appear as though the
4:54 am
temperatures will be well above freezing by this point, shooting for mid 40's even in philadelphia. even into tomorrow evening it, will still be warm enough, that it should just be couple of rain showers. so, that bodes well, at this point. we look forward in the eyewitness weather seven day, see some evan flow on the thermometer readings, not any huge swings here, really the warmest day of the next five is tomorrow. then we cool things off for the next couple of days, friday at this point, only expecting a flurry at worse, a snow shower, as there is storm developing off to the south. we are hoping to keep the guidance off to our south with the storm the next few days, at this point no major storms in site for the seven day. definitely some good news for those of us trying clear all of this nonsense away. >> yes, after this weekend, that's going to be so nice, just to see 40, katie, like yes. >> isn't it crazy that sounds warm right now? >> i know it, sounds like very nice, good morning, everyone, happy monday. thanks so much katie. this is looking center city
4:55 am
broad street at spring garden, really what you are looking at in all of our secondary streets, residential street, why a lot of the schools are cans he had. buses just can't get through some of the residential streets. snow is actually looking pretty good n center city we can expect it because of the shear volume of vehicles that go over and over these roadways. also pull your attention to the glare of the lights on the roads, showing you how much ice are still on the roadways, just today even just take it very slow. here is another look at one of these more secondary streets, columbus boulevard, oregon avenue, see a loft ice and snow still on the roadways, even after all of the plowing. ninety-five at the vine, it is looking good, it is looking open, it is looking quiet as it should. it will be interesting, i said this little bit ago, what we will see in terms of the volume levels because a lot of kids are home from school, but a lot of people have to go back to work. we'll see what happens. delaware county 452 looking like ghosttown, looking very, very quiet this morning. we do have this jackknife tractor-trailer new jersey turnpike northbound past route
4:56 am
