5:32 am
15th street there. and it look like traffic right there, as meisha mentioned, not very heavy obviously, but moving along the the thing is you still obviously have lots of snow on the sidewalks out even into the roadways it, will narrow the streets down it, will slow you down. if you see anything like this, where it looks like there might and sheen on the road, it is cold enough, folks, that it could have frozen over. so i want you to just expect that. it has to slow down. good thing is you don't have much wind. actually feels like what the they are mom term reads for a change, how about that? meanwhile some of you might be out there shoveling snow, trying get rid of t i want you to be very careful, go slow. take breaks, go from the legs. our own doctor rob dan off always says spray a little cooking spray on the shovel it, will help. help it slide off. you won't get stuck with the heavy snuff. watch out for any icing that might have gone on your own driveway, slush that we have out there it, will refreeze, just be smart about it, now storm scan at the moment, nice and quiet l stay that way here today. nothing more than handful of
5:33 am
clouds throughout the course of the day. because temperatures remain in the 20's, then later only at best mid upper 30's this afternoon, will likely still be some refreezing that you have got to expect. soap, walking you through hour by hour, at least over handful of hours through the course of the day we should get you in the mid upper 30's at the height of the afternoon. with the light wind and some sunshine, it is not the worse day we've ever seen, just a loft just a clot of clean up that still needs to be done. >> that's the thing, yes. it is the calm after the storm. sort of. like katie said, still have the clean up. there is a lot of t still a lot of ♪ out there. and the roads are still icy. good morning, where we have an accident. 422 northbound the ramps to the schuylkill eastbound. you can see the flashing lights, in a car has spun out into the ditch. and sometimes when it is so dark outside, weaver people that get out of their vehicles and walk around, evidenced right there, that can be very dangerous just because these travelers coming around that curve, they don't see him or if they cannot stop because a
5:34 am
lot of the roads are very easy can make for very dangerous situation. be very careful out there. again, that car just spun out there, letting you know it is still very slippery out there. new jersey, 42 freeway northbound at creek road looking good approaching 295-6789 although looking a lot busy, a lot busier than what we saw even just 15 minutes ago. collegeville, headlights, at route 29, looking good, holding stead limit everyone traveling at around what would you think is at posted speeds if they can, if the roadways are dry enough to do so. also mass transit, septa regional rails are starting off kinds of slow start, but all of them should be up and running, looks like septa regional rails restored, septa buses and trolleys, same thing, new jersey transit will be cross honoring, patco speed line running special schedule, amtrak on modified schedule, as usual, in the world of mass transit make sure to check all of your schedules on lane. back to you. >> meisha, thank up, a we've been saying the storm is over but the clean up just beginning. along the jersey shore residents there are dealing with coastal flooding, many home and business owners

5:36 am
and third high tides brought in more flooding and increased damage. now, the mayor checked out the damage on the beach yesterday, as well, there is a lot of errosion out there. but he says the ocean never breached the newspaperly installed dunes. and that potentially saved sea isle city thousands of dollars in damage. >> feel like the dunes did their job, they did their job, they prevented the ocean from breaching. >> years ac this used to go right over the prom nature, into the homes, and really bring severe flooding. >> back out here live in sea isle sit, you can seep, that the flood waters, again, have receded. what's left is a lot of debris on the side of the roads, a lot of ice. talking about the beaches, north ends actually looks pretty good. still a lot of beach out there. it is when you hit the center of town and south of that where you see a whole lot of beach errosion. in fact police yesterday had to tape off access points to the beach there is steel drop off there.
5:37 am
keep that in mind if you want to take a look today you might not be able to get down on the beach in certain areas. now the mayor as you saw toured the area to look at the damage yesterday. he tells me the army corps of engineers is expected out here this week. that will could happen as early as today. of course we will keep you to up date. for now live in sea isle city. jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> thanks for the update. meanwhile, tragedy to report in passaic, new jersey, where mother and her one year old son died from carbon monoxide poisoning, while her three year old daughter fighting for her life. we are told they were all sitting in a car with its tail pipe covered in snow during the storm. the father was trying to dig that car out of 2 feet of snow when he saw them slumped over. neighbors jumped in to help. >> that boy don't have life. because he is like this. and i tried, i tried, my nephew tried, and the paramedics tried, tried. those people worked so hard. >> oh, the three year old little girl is in very critical condition. police say the tragedy is a
5:38 am
reminder for people just to make sure their tail pipes are free and clear it, does not take long to fill one carbon monoxide. the snow emergency has been lift in the philadelphia. but many roads are still just a mess. more than 24 hours after the snow stopped falling, still problems out there. now, because of the clean up, there is no trash and no recycling pick up today in the city since the trucks are being used for plowing instead. now, if you are parking in the sit the philadelphia parking thought will not enforce meter and kiosk parking violations today, discount parking still available in ppa garages. and if you are still waiting for your street to be plowed or salted you can always contact 311, call the call center starting today at 6:00 a.m. >> the city might get a lot of calls from resident in south philadelphia. number of those side streets remain untouched. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh joins out now, along tenth and ziegel. how much snow are you looking at down there? >> erika, there is a lot of snow. as you can see, this mounds of
5:39 am
snow is almost up to my waist, definitely a loft calls to the call center because there is just so much know to be cleared here and plows have not been through this area yet. there are just so many mounds of snow hard to see in this driveway that you are looking at we saw a crew here salting one of these entrances, earlier this morning. and all of this snow is leaving neighbors left to dig themselves out. here's 11 neighbor shoveling his street had to same. >> they told thaws they wouldn't have anybody here for snow removal, at least until wednesday, tuesday, wednesday. >> we also briefly spoke to one man who was -- we also briefly spoke to one man walk to go work this morning because of all of the snow on the gown, as you can see, this is the danger here. this is spots of ice, it is very hard to see. but there are a lot of patches, even though the sidewalks are clear, there is a loft ice still on the sidewalk. so, any neighbors who were out this morning just take care, make sure that you are keeping an eye out for any of those
5:40 am
icy conditions out here. but from now live at tenth and ziegel, anita oh, "eyewitness news". >> good remind tow watch out for the ice, and eat, a thank you. all weekend long viewers like you sent us great pictures of their neighborhoods and how they're land hinge all of the snow a lot of fun out in the snow too. we want to see what it looks like out sure identify home right now. are the roads still covered in snow, or is your car plowed in? keep the pictures coming use the #cbs3 snow. might see them here on tv. it did not take long for philadelphia's police commissioner, former police commissioner, to finds a new job. we'll let you know about the important mission charles ramsey is tackling now. also, scare in the air, when a plane hit severe turbulence. new this morning, hearing from passengers about the frightening flight. >> and, the arm -- the art museum steps. showing you other fun people had during the historic storm. we'll be right back.

5:43 am
5:44 am
hospital. >> going along, turbulence, then the plane actually dropped. went to the side, went flying, people, yes, it was pretty intense. >> scary. plans are underway to ensure the passengers and crew can now get to their destination. >> former philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey is returning to chicago for new assign: he will and senior advisor to the chicago police department helping to guide civil rights reforms. ramsey's new job in chicago comes at a time when the department is under criticism over its treatment of suspects, including a white police officer, shooting a black teenager. >> well, here is another look at just how powerful last weekends storm was it, knock down the bubble over washington's football practice facility in virginia. the weight of all of the snow can be so heavy, a belong high winds, it caused the bubble to deflate. according to the football team's website; the facility will be re inflated once conditions improve, than snow is removed. there were no reports of any injuries.
5:45 am
>> in washington, d.c., people with cabin fever came out for a massive snowball fight near dew point circle yesterday. organized by the washington dc snowball fight association, who knew there was one, it had a theme, snow war know balls fight back. one of many planned across the nation's capitol. give it star wars theme, katie, how about it? >> it doesn't get better than that. so so much fun. obviously take the good with the bad with systems like. >> this you know, you got to make the most of it while you can. go sled willing, have a snowball fight, build snowman, do the snow angels, all of that good stuff or get outside with the shovel. get some that far snow removed. but, that said, it is a cold beginning to the day for us, and our slew of eyewitness weather watcher reports coming in with very very cold air, coldest of which came in from eileen out in gilbertsville, one of the more remote suburbs, nice clear sky, with a reflection too off of the snow, any heat going back up to the atmosphere, only
5:46 am
8 degrees for her. we zero in on one of these, 11 came in from robert stewart, couple every clouds out in clementon. live this in his comments, not fit foreman nor beast outside. scan nel little rudolph red knows reindeer. quick glance at some of the temperatures coming in, eileen's observation, 14 for peter in lawrenceville, phil in philly i, specifically chestnut hill at 16 degrees, jason mid he will town delaware, 12, he had ned chesterfield, 10 degrees, list goes on into the teens from john in perkasie, journey kop, lynn in cherry hill and robert as we just showed you out in clementon. so nice cold beginning to the morning. that said, anything, anything that's had a chance to melt from yesterday, has long since had a chance to refreeze. how much do we actually end up with? the numbers were impressive. out of the storm system, we pick up solid 22.4 inches, from the monster that rolled through here over the weekend. last year, the entire season, we 27 inches.
5:47 am
so doing pretty well. thus far this year, we have only had beyond that 22.4, just a half inch that fell. so, this is definitely where the bulk of the precipitation has come from, or snow specifically, so far this season. all is calm and collected when nice large dome of high pressure right now in place. so going to see some sunshine here throughout the day. eventually though disturbance is going to cross in, that will bring us our next shot for wet weather. so as we look forward in the eyewitness weather seven day forecast, very minor roller coaster ride, temperatures here, tomorrow is when the next disturbance comes along t does bring in precipitation, just rain showers the expectation, because it comes in the afternoon. there may be lingering shower come wednesday morning. nothing more than that. and then by friday, we are watching an area of low pressure develop off the southeast coastline. depending on final track it may be a little bit after concern for us, but right now i don't want to sounds the alarm yet, only calling for the potential of snow shower, or flurry at worse, and that would be on friday. meisha, a over to you.
5:48 am
>> thank you for all of that information, it will be nice day all things considering, 37 degrees, sun will be out for the kids that had to stay home from school. i know for mom and dad, maybe not the best news. but if you are going to be home with them, beautiful day to enjoy now it is still icy outside. shear look at city avenue bala cynwydment you can see the ice on the road, the snow still pushed over, plows are still going to be out there today, trying to get that out of our way. i actually heard on the radio this morning them saying if you can stay off the roadways, you certainly want to do so. just to give them some room to work and really get the last of what the ice and the snow that's out there, especially on the secondary roads, and those residential roads. this is where we have an accident. car spun out 422 northbound the ramps at the schuylkill eastbound, causing dangerous situation here. the reason it is so dangerous one because it just; we have an accident here. but also, we have people out of their vehicles, walking around, and these vehicles coming up toward this crash, if you don't see the person, and if you can't stop because of it is so slippery, that
5:49 am
could cause real issues. so far though just the spin out crash we are dealing with right now, they are load that up, trying to get it out of the way, volume all levels still pretty light in the area. so far so good. king of prussia, 202, tail light moving in the northbound direction, at the schuylkill, again, just showing you how much snow is still out there. the good thing is on our major interstates and highways, most of it now all getting cleared out of the way. just those side streets that we're having issues with, we do have accident west grove, route one near jennersville road, still out there. so make note of. that will also in the world of mass transit, septa off to slow start, but looks like the septa regional rails are restored, septa buses and trolleys restored. new jersey transit is cross-honoring patco and amtrak running special modified schedulesment as i always say, check your skills always on line, they are ever changing, erika, back over to you. >> specially on days like today, thank if you. superbowl less than two weeks away, now we know who will be playing in the big game. we start with the afc title game. >> this one real a nail biter. defending champion patriots were down eight to the
5:50 am
broncos, with 172nd left. but, tom brady hit rob, to get the paths close. patriots had to go for two, but brady's pass was pick off. peyton manning and the broncos beat new england 20 to 18 to win the afc championship. >> all right, to the nfc title game, it was all about the panthers. carolina thrilled their home crowd by piling up the most points ever in the nfc championship game. beating out the arizona cardinals 49 to 15. the panthers forced the cards into seven turnovers, and mvp frontrunner cam newton through for two touchdowns and ran for two more. how about that? so already to go, guys, panthers are the early favorite against the broncos in superbowl 50. remember the only place to watch that game is right here on cbs-3 on february 7th. >> still ahead this morning, born in the storm. can you imagine going into labor during that huge snowstorm over the weekend? now we're hearing about the family's harrowing trip to the hospital and special delivery as the snow piled up.
