weekends flooding and the mess left behind. today lawmakers toured the damage while governor christie cause as fire storm after his comments seemingly make lit of the wide spread damage in cape may county. good afternoon, i'm erika von tiehl. social media is really blowing up over the governor's comment.

attention saying that what do they want me to do, come down to cape may count way mop. well, senators booker, menendez, frank low bee and dough, people need not just mop, need sheet rock, new appliances because many homes filled with water because of flooding over the weekend. we expect to see the senators and congressmen meeting with officials here in sea isle city. they are touring currently, west wildwood, which was hit very strong by the storm, there was a breach to the bark bay, water pouring in, filled into some of the homes. we had chance to look there yesterday. in sea isle city also much providing on the street, into businesses, into homes. made it dangerous for first responders. >> sea isle city in the heart of the storm where there was streets filled with snow and ice.

>> very costly clean up, yes, we saw that the lieutenant governor for new jersey, kim, is here with the dep commissioner. they were surveying some of the damages. and of course governor christie was up in new hampshire, made some quite startling comments, some people found, talking about cape may county. >> there have been one county that's flooded in the state. one county, cape may county. the one count that i flood so i don't know where from all over the state, since we have 21 counties, where that's happened. second, i don't know what you expect me to do. do you want me to go down there with a mop? >> now, governor christie also got some criticism for calling the mayor of north wildwood crazy, north wildwood had about 150 people that had to be rescued from their homes during the storm because of power outages, and rising flood water.

i just spoke on the phone with the mayor of north wildwood, patrick, he said he actually got a phonecall from governor christie this morning apologizing for calling him crazy. now, the mayor says that he wasn't so much worried about his reputation being called, but he felt like perhaps it was a little disrespectful toward the first respond that's went out in the storm, and sort of made the people whose homes damaged feel continue inch i shall. governor christies told him, i'm told, he wasn't trying to make anybody feel disrespecting, just trying to draw a contrast how destructive super storm sandy was here in new jersey, that's the latest, we'll hear some comments from the senators as they tour here in sea isle in just a little while. reporting live in sea isle, cleve bryan, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> see you tonight at 5:00 cleve, thank you, as we said people are take to go social media over governor christie's comment, cathy morris posted on cbs facebook page response from presidential candidate, resident from his state are asking for help. kimberly firestone says yikes,

efficiently, here, all in advance of cold front crossing through, it is pretty weak disturbance. because we saw some of the precipitation come in early this morning, that's where we ends the up with freezing rain, and freezing rain advisory that had to be issued, as well. that has thankfully since gone out of effect. we start things off, going back in time, on six hour loop to start things off here and go out to storm scan3. so we start to rewind the clock here, start back around 6:00 a.m., seven, eight, 9:00 see the pink that shows up on the radar, no one wants to see that specially on morning drive, thankfully now it is all since fizzled away. but it was definitely a lot more robust as it crossed out of the central pa mountains, into at least southeastern pennsylvania, but again all fizzled away for now, we'll eventually ends up with a few more showers throughout the rest of the day later on this afternoon and into tonight as the actual cold front crosses through. but look at these temperatures. low 50's wildwood. that will help melt snowfall in mill have i at 50 degrees, 46 at the airport, not bad. however, do keep in mind, once the temperatures fall back off again later tonight, there may

be some refreezing, but i still think you are talking upper 40's in the city, even low 50's at the shore points. but your area headlines are as such. we've got again worry about refreezing concerns, and if you have heard a rumor about a big storm later on in the week, i'm going to talk about what we know with that storm a bit later on, erika. >> here's hoping it is not a storm at all, katie, thank you. new york city area slowly thawing out from the weekends storm too. front ends loaders worked to clear the roadways in queens. that area was the hardest hit. authorities say there were at least five snow related deaths, three in queens, nun statin island, another in brooklyn. >> meanwhile federal offices are still closed in the nation's capitol, as the city continues to dig out. students in washington dc, northern virginia, and maryland, also got another snow day. some of the new see ups, the national mall, are welcoming visitors again today. we're also told that the city's subway system is getting closer to normal operations. take some time.

freezing rain earlier this morning, out of here? >> radar quiet, satellite not so much. still seeing clouds out there, few peaks every sunday, too. we take you on outside in a second here, show you video we got earlier in the day, that's up in the poconos, where we've had plenty of nature made snow. but we are looking at here the tractors heading up jack frost, big boulder, flattening out the slopes, making them ready to go for all of the ski bunnies likely to come on out, and enjoy how many slopes are open. there is quite a few of them in fact open right now. let's go ahead, switch gears. we take you out to live picture next, notice, some of the snow actually had chance to melt outside cape may courthouse where we are finding temperatures, nice and mild, frankly, for late january. 48 degrees currently here at middle township high school. but that said, you have got mild air all across the boardment look at mount pocono right now, 44 degrees, now you got dumped on with the snow from the past weaken, so even

though it is milder, you're not going to see too much melting take place, at least because you have such big base to work with here. 51 degrees meanwhile in atlantic city, southwest component of the winds flow, and that's waist coming in advance of much larger system. now we're calling it pretty weak disturbance as far as we're concerned, more heavy rain off to the deep south. you have snow even around the center of circulation with this, what will happen in the days ahead here is this front crosses through, a large area of low pressure starts to develop along the tail end of this front, and that's where the question marks start to come in play, hearing that rumor about a storm for the tail end of the week. we will get to. that will i want to walk you through what the rest of this day has in store. sore foe now, we have at least few breaks of sunshine right now, not talking much guys. many of you will get by without an umbrella, no need even for the windshield wipers, any showers that come through are vapidly at best. and we'll still have them even around later tonight. notice it is just rain showers
