doctors cbs-3 "eyewitness news". "eyewitness news" at noon, begins with the investigation into what caused this damage on an amtrak train as it traveled through philadelphia last night. and, we're less than an hour away from learning new details about last may's amtrak tragedy. for the first time we expect to hear what the train's engineer told investigators. good afternoon, i'm erika von tiehl. today at 1:00 the national transportation safety board is

releasing never before seen evidence from the investigation into the crash that killed eight people and injured 200 others. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter joins us now live in the cbs-3 sat center with the latest information on this, walt? >> erika, as you say, in less than one hour from now we will get our first look at 2,000 pages of evidence gathered by ntsb investigators. these documents including an interview with the train's engineer are the building blocks that will sometime in may lead to the final answers from the ntsb. on why this deadly derailment happened. >> for the first time, since the amtrak derailment that killed eight, and injured more than 200, the national transportation safety board is about to release never before seen evidence, gathered by its investigators. the main unanswered question, why did train 188 with engineer brandon boss tee and at the controls, accelerate to speed of 106 miles an hour, more than double the speed limit as it entered the

frankford curve. locomotive and seven cars with 250 passengers careening off the tracks, among the materials, expected to be released, black box data, was the train hit with a object before the crash? and a transcript of the engineer's interview. through his attorney, the engineer, shortly after the derailment, told investigators he didn't remember anything about the crash, his attorney has told nude media, not under the influence of doll or drugs, ntsb stated the engineer was not using his phone for texting, calling or dating at the time of the crash. finally, the ntsb has also previously announced there were no problems with the track, the train, or its brakes. adding to the so far unresolved mystery of why train 188 was going so fast. >> ntsb investigators say they'll have no comment, as they continue to analyze it,

working toward reaching their conclusions, meanwhile, the philadelphia police department criminal investigation is also underway. these findings, along with the ntsb evidence, gathered by detectives, all expected to be forwarded to the district attorney at some point, who will then decide if they need criminal charges might be filed. live in the sat center, walt hunter, cbs 3, "eyewitness news". >> hopefully getting some answers, walt, thank you. investigators are looking into another dangerous incident on the rails in philadelphia. last night, a mystery object hit an amtrak acela train not far from the scene of last year's deadly derailment. our justin finch shows us the damage. >> the view of 22, 22, sunday night, some aboard the dc to new york train heard it break. >> giant boom. >> speak to go new york sister station, passenger, taylor, said she sat a few seats from that damaged window. then posted photos on twitter

and tweeting: uhhh, someone just shot our amtrak car and slows up the billion dollars hole. >> my god, something hit the train. and immediately everybody looked at it and said my god it is a gunshot. >> not yet known if bullets caused this, but amtrak police did investigate soon after. in a statement, amtrak says, they and local authorities are investigating the incident, including the type of objects hitting the train. also recalled something she heard the conductor said. >> he said that it look like something like that had happened before. >> not far from where amtrak 2222 reports being hit in the bridesburg area. back in may, conductor brandon bostian at the helm of amtrak 188 as it sped onto a curve and derailed at frankford junction. in northeast philadelphia, justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news".

>> students are in a south jersey school with increased police presence. cherry hill east high school today after social media threat surfaced on line this past weekend. investigators tracked that message to a juvenile and made an arrest. authorities also checked the school and the surrounding area earlier this morning. >> i definitely was taken back by it, didn't think it would be somebody, especially knowing, so many kids here, and everyone so nice to each other, in my personal opinion. >> the superintendent told cbs-3 the juvenile who allegedly made that on-line threat is now charged with one count of making a false public alarm the time for campaigning in iowa almost over. tonight kick off the nominating caucuses, more on the last minute push for voters. >> reporter: it was an early wake-up call for volunteers on

extreme drought. el nino fueled storms are expected to last through the spring. well, no heavy rain here, but we are tracking some showers right now, and the pay off, pretty nice and warm for february. let's go out to the skydeck with justin drabick with katie this noon. those showers creeping up on us, justin? >> stepping outside in the next half hour or so, just enjoy this, not too often early february talking temperatures more typical for late march, early april. that's what we have right now. and actually the sun peaking out little bit. feels pretty good. spotty showers, sprinkles breaking out across the delaware vale, check it out storm scan3, you can see the radar sweeps, nothing real heavy right now over the city, we had kim every sprinkles earlier here on the skydeck, maybe about ten, 15 minutes ago. steady rain showers, still out across central pennsylvania, right now, near harrisburg, so again, you may run into sprinkle or two next couple of hours, after 2:00 some of the stead injury showers could roll into the region. temperatures the big story today. they're running compared to yesterday, anywhere from about two to 10 degrees warmer, in

up yet. still time yet. only halfway through. but it is a nice day outside specially where we have the sunshine, one location down at the shore. check it out. i mean, gorgeous shot here. ocean city live look at the boardwalk temperatures along the coast, already in the up ear's, even the low 60s, in delaware, this hour. people are out on the board walk, enjoying the nice afternoon. here we are into february. recap january, believe it or not, i keep saying this, people think i'm nuts, actually warmer than average, and the stats show it. ended up 1.2 degrees above average for january, yes, we had cold spells, but when you average it all out, warmer than normal. snowy though, 22.9 inches, basically the seasonal average here in philadelphia. highest temp 65, the lowest 12, yes did have the colds days, couple of arctic blasts came through. the trends now, now through wednesday, jet stream rides through the north, ten to 20 degrees above average already sitting at 15 degrees above average now at 56 degrees. it is 55 in wilmington. sixty in the capitol city of delaware, i mention the shore,

59 in wildwood, just inland, at the atlantic city airport 65 degrees. there is cold front that comes through later today, bridges some showers, but notice, behind the front, it is not that cold. forty-one in cleveland. forty-three pittsburgh. so we drop the temperatures little bit tomorrow. but still, for february, it will be warmer than average. couple of sprinkles coming through the city right now up toward bucks, montgomery county, showers riding along i81 near harrisburg, will track eastward, after 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 best shot for steadier showers. no wednesday, we deal with a larger storm system coming into play. this will bring steadier rain maybe up to inch of rain, with near record high temperatures, the snow pack, that's melting, we will have to watch for some of the smaller streams and creeks, there could be little bit of flooding concern, going on wednesday afternoon, wednesday night. also, near record temperatures, we have a shot at tie or make breaking the records high of 62 degrees wednesday afternoon. now, that was setback in 2006. today clouds, few showers this afternoon, 58 degrees, for the high temperature.
