weather in a moment but first the zika virus confirmed in our area good evening, i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. health reporter stephanie stahl joins us with the very latest numbers and i know you have had developments in the last few minutes. >> reporter: just off the phone as we speak, 39 new liz confirmed zika cases, one in delaware, two in pennsylvania are all travel related. virus was not contracted in the united states. health officials emphasize there is no public threat here. now we don't have any information on the patient's identities or where they live. pennsylvania health officials, in a phone briefing moment ago said one cases here in women were very mild and they have recovered. the zika virus is spread by mosquitoes and widespread in central and south america and caribbean. world health organization has declared it a global healthy mergecy. zika can cause flu-like symptoms but most people don't realize they are infected. big concern is for pregnant woman. it can cause birth defects, babies to be born with small

heads. >> anything which has a potential life threatening effect on our unborn babies is a major concern and we need to take it seriously but i don't think it is time to panic. >> reporter: doctor owen montgomery is chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at hahnemann university hospital. he said there are no vaccines or medications yet available to treat the zika virus. >> a woman pregnant who contracts the virus, there can be infection to the feet news any trimester, first, second or third trimester. >> reporter: cases of the virus in the united states are all travel related, contracted outside the country except one case in texas where it was spread by sexual contact. the u.n. health agency estimates that three to 4 million cases of zika in latin america in the the next year. experts say it is just a matter of time before it spreads more widely in the united states but it is not expected to be as serious here, mainly because we have better mosquito control. now these new zika cases were

confirmed by cdc in lab tests, several dozens are pending. all pregnant woman hoff traveled to the affected area should check with their doctors and be tested even if they do not have symptoms. and the health officials that we were just on the phone with said again, this is not a public health threat, only a concern for pregnant woman hoff traveled to those areas. >> our other top story tonight, a snow he evening all across our area. >> we have team coverage as we track this storm. we will check with walt hunter out in elements in just a moment but first lets talk to meteorologist kate bilo in our weather center, kate. >> thanks, so much guess contact we are tracking steady yes, sir snow we have had for then tire storm this started late last night between 7:00 and 9:00 across the area but you can see as if on cue just in time for evening rush now that the sun has gone down that banding we discussed all day yesterday has started to set up. it is pushing through montgomery county in, to bucks county at the moment and into northeast philadelphia especially, a little break in

the action month center city but another round and band may set up before thinks all said and done. so zooming in on the steady snow right the now, it is lining up from berks county all through much of the montgomery county, lower southford, norristown, lightening up there warminster about to get heavy snow, bensalem and over river into new jersey right along the new jersey turnpike, down toward mount laurel we are seeing steady snow at the moment. piling up on grass surfaces outside. untreated roads and back roads, secondary road could get snow covered as well. little bit of the break before that next band starts to move n we have the snow falling which is leading to reductions in visibility. the visibility down to less than a mile, .8 in wilmington. two and a half in philadelphia. not terrible. not the what we see in dense fog but enough to slow things down outside. take it easy outside on the roads this evening and tonight, these band of snow will continue. we are still under a winter weather advisory in philadelphia and surrounding area.

that winter storm warning is still in effect across areas just off to our west from delaware, chester and lancaster counties. coming up we will tell you when snow moves out and cold blast that follows as we head in the weekend. for now back over to you, ukee. snow is making for a tricky commute in spots. the "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter is in snowy west goshen chester county, walt. >> reporter: our snow burst here is actually just winding down fortunately. the visibility improving as darkness falls but it is scrambled traffic, a difficult afternoon for commuting here on the edge of west chester. not long after flakes began falling heavily during a late afternoon snow burst in chester county, plow trucks began appearing, and traffic problems began accumulating. >> then the traffic stopped and there was a monster truck trying to make a turn on to 202 and too tight to turn. everything stopped. >> reporter: so was last thing anyone wanted to see in

chester county, with huge mounds from the last winter blast, still piled up. not like two weeks ago that was bad. >> yes. >> reporter: fortunately for most of the day the hit and miss storm was mostly a miss. >> just a few flakes. >> not much. i'm from atlanta and thinks what we get in atlanta. >> reporter: and while everyone was grateful that during the daylight hours, roads were wet, with no major crashes or transit the delays, at least one resident admitted, hoping for just a little bit more than a light coating. >> i want enough to make a snow angel. turf make my snow angel in the backyard. my husband, my dog and myself. whatever, that is enough. >> reporter: back live, taking a look at my buddy over here. he does carry a very serious message. it was create by my cameraman tom gardener. this snow is extremely wet. that is why we were able to make this snow man. what you need to necessity is tonight with the temperature right on the border of

nobody driving and road get covered. secondary streets like this one driveway, parking lots, in the treating them and using them they can get covered quickly in these band of snow. here's steady band we have seen that shifted north of center city philadelphia moving from montgomery into bucks county at the moment. lining up all the way down through burlington county, new jersey. another bandies developing over chester count that i will inflate totals there. that will be where we see highest totals in our region and snow working its way back into new jersey as well. steady snow towamencin, warminster, been sale he will seeing steady snow. another band will develop before we see this system move on out later on tonight. so snow amounts. heaviest amounts off to the west. west caln township at four and a half. warwick 3.7. nottingham at the 4.4. hockessin delaware to inches. so, what to expect for the rest of the evening. steady snow is right now, through the next couple of hours. a couple of scattered snow showers overnight and then just a few lingering flurries

tomorrow morning, and then we will get the snow out and we will bring the cold n so overnight, again, snow showers will come to an end. few slick spots out there especially on untreated surfaces and back roads. for your wednesday, morning flurries, turning windy, 38 degrees will be our daytime high but wind pick up in the afternoon and then temperatures drop, in fact, we expect to hit freezing about 8:00 o'clock tomorrow night. then temperatures will stay, below freezing, all the way until 2:00 o'clock on monday, and that means, for 114 hours straight, we will be below freezing in philadelphia, it is going to be very cold for this time of the year. keep in mind normal highs in the mid 40's. when you talk about 114 hours, below freezing, that is some serious cold. especially for mid-february. dangerous wind chills as well, saturday morning will feel like sub zero to near five. sunday morning feeling sub zero all across the region, dangerous wind chills late saturday night into sunday morning especially and you you can see why daytime highs only in the 20's this weekend, a
