"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao joins with us more on this once it is in a state you live in and close by it hits home. >> reporter: three confirmed cases, one in delaware, two in pennsylvania. we do expect to learn more today but here's what we know so far. all of these cases are travel related. the these people contracted zika outside the u.s. health officials are

emphasizing this morning that these cases, do not powe a public health threat. the doctors want folks to be aware especially pregnant woman traveling to zika stricken countries. growing concern about the zika virus today after health officials now confirmed 66 cases in the u.s. three of those cases come from the delaware valley, all women traveled abroad. health officials say zika is generally a mild illness that can cause flu-like symptoms but most people don't room ice they are infect. the biggest concern is for pregnant woman. zika is linked to birth defects and infants whose mother contracted the virus. >> anything which has a potential life threatening effect on our unborn babies is a major concern and we need to take it seriously but i don't think it is time to than pennsylvania i can. >> reporter: doctor owen montgomery is chairman of the obstetrics and gynecology at hahnemann university hospital and at this point he says there is no vaccine or medication available for treatment or prevention. health officials are now

asking all pregnant woman who traveled to zika stricken countries to speak with their doctors and get tested if they are not showing any symptoms. >> a with man hoist pregnant who contracts the virus, there can be infection to the fetus in any trimester for a second or third trimester. >> reporter: zika is widespread in central and south america as well as caribbean. >> zika virus first detected in the western hemisphere in 2014 has reached u.s. and it is project to cause 4 million cases in this hemisphere. >> reporter: while there hasn't been transmission by mosquitoes in the u.s. yet, cdc fears it is just a amount of time. >> we do feel it the is likely to have limited local transmission in the southern states. in the winter months new we have a chance to try to get ahead of this. >> reporter: experts say an out break here is not expected to be as bad because the u.s. has better mosquito control. now these new zika cases in our area were confirmed by cdc through blood tests, several cost even more are pending.
