bernie sanders and donald trump win and this could be a major turning point for chris christie, we are live. also the zika virus has been making international headlines and now it is in our own backyard. we will tell you about new local cases reported. and if you can allow yourself a few extra minutes heading to work or school this morning, there could be slick spots on the road, talking about black ice this morning. good morning, it is wednesday, february 10th i'm erika von tiehl. before you wake kid up check out bottom of the screen, there are several school delays, we will continue to scroll through them throughout the newscast. and it will start to get colder over the next few days as well, katie is on the sky deck. katie, meisha checking those roads. the not much good news today. >> yeah, good morning. the roadways are looking very wet, and very slippery a lot have of black ice still out there, katie. so when can we expect temperatures to bump up, or when will we see that. >> yeah, in the really. you set me up, to to

disappoint people. we are looking if you are in the a fan of the cold air to even colder conditions, in the days ahead here but that is for the next pretty clear the next couple days. can you you tell that there are a few flurries flying around here. we have since looking out we overlook parking lot at our station headquarters, final dustin on the car windshield. the it is not sticking easily to the paved surfaces but there are still lingering snow showers out here. you will see that very well represented on storm scan three. snow showers look worse sometimes then they are. it is very light to snow, currently falling here in the broadcast center and del marva peninsula, up and down i-95 but do expect that the aftermath of this storm system will continue to full retreat. aftermath issues will come into play where you run into pockets of ice, and anything that was wet, damp from yesterday has had a chance to refreeze now that the temperatures dropped off. we will give you caution yellow light here on the road this morning. afternoon it is mainly wet,

temperatures rise ago about freezing for at least the afternoon but tonight we will fall if to that zone where we are below freezing. mid 20's overnight. here's where we stan right now, at the four below freezing, every single one of these observation points. it is not scattered or isolated but anyone could run into the refreezing issue here. other than morning flurries or a stray straight up snow shower in a couple spots blustery conditions pick up and even though we do still have aftermath issues we have solid b minus. granted some schools are opening late giving scoot the that came through yesterday but things will get better with time here today in the wake of the system. >> well, that is some great news. thanks very much, katie, good morning, happy wednesday. you heard it, still cold, still some black ice, it will be slick, slippery and it will be busy. certainly was monday and tuesday, and i am assuming that today will be no different. we have an accident here, let the me back out of the way, to see if that has cleared. nope, still there. the route 30 eastbound ramps

to 202 north bound pulled off to that shoulder not causing too many slow downs but we are seeing volume levels increase right now, as we push in the 6:00 o'clock hour. just make note of that. also the vine looking at west and eastbound directions looking good, although ten minutes ago looking at this camera it didn't quite look this busy. we know volleys building on the vine as well as we should, snow, 202, headlights in the northbound direction at boot road this is where we're starting to see where we do see snow on the the sides but also, on the roadway, and just maybe 15 minutes ago we were seeing snow flakes coming down by camera lens. still very slick, slippery and cold here. 202, headlights moving in the northbound direction north of west chester. actually north of wilmington delaware foulke roadblocked all directions all lanes at silver side road, use an alternate marsh road and wilson road. erika, back over to you. next up, south carolina for donald trump he is leaving new hampshire with his first win of campaign 2016. trump has 35 percent of the republican vote, and ohio governor john kasich is second. senators ted cruz and former

florida governor jeb bush and marco rubio, they are battling for third place. trump told supporters that if elected he would make america more competitive. >> we are going to make america great again but we will do it the old fashion way. we will beat chine, japan, we're going to beat mexico and trade. we're going to beat all of these countries, that are taking so much of our money away from frustrates. >> kasich poured nearly all campaign you resource necessary new hampshire. new jersey governor chris christie spent time and resources in the granite state, after last night's disappointing outcome he is reconsidering whether to re-continue his campaign. state's house. we will speak with art heywood a democrat who initially supported kane's removal from office but has been since changed his mind. >> in this process of determining whether she should or shouldn't be removed, i haven't heard anything convince ago this would suggest that she should be removed. what is it that she cannot do that is important to the job, i haven't heard that. >> it is unclear if governor wolf will sign off on the measure if it does pass the senate. he called on kane to resign. kane is scheduled to go on trial in august when she will face charges for allegedly leaking confidential grand jury information. it is confirmed a woman in delaware and two pennsylvania resident have contracted the zika virus. delaware, pennsylvania divisions of public health say that all those infected traveled to area affect by the out break. the mosquito born illness is generally mild but can cause birth defects when it affects pregnant with man. we will have more on the local

cases in our next half an hour. well, we are also learning more about the dream vacation that turned into a night the mayor for hundreds of people a aboard royal caribbean's anthem of the seas. that cruise ship sailed into violent weather over weekend and won't return to new jersey until tonight. christians will observe ash wednesday and begin the lent season of sacrifice. the christian will receive ash toes remind them to repent. during the 40 days of lent many believers give up a favorite food or activity, for others, they will perform acts of charity. season of lent is meant to get christians ready for easter celebrations, easter is march 27th this year. turning to our weather heading out early swing by church watch out for slick spots, katie. >> definitely. we have a little bit of snow that might lead to troubles out there as well. we are looking at live neighborhood network and you have to look closely. i did just right before we came out to the shot, there is

very light snow flying out there, reducing your visibility dramatically over the delaware river, anyway. it not as much as a concern other than slick travel. we have very light snow, and, that is my catch phrase with this storm, because anything you have, just looks worse then it is. snow is light, it is perhaps leaving a dusting at wheres in some spots, but generally just flurries are flying in these spots. now this storm again is making it forward, and still looking somewhat scattered in nature but still here, but there in lies the problem. you can see a streak of snow starting to dip south here eventually we are going to see another system push on through to reenforce chill. this first one reenforce is it on its own. high pressure build in thursday and friday before another system comes along to reenforce that cold. as it does so, it will send temperatures on a downward spiral bringing a light snow shower friday night into saturday. when we talk about the chill

that is on the way with two blasts of cold essentially here we will have temperatures from 15 to 20 degrees below seasonal average. the majority of the seven day features temperatures that don't hit 30 let alone freezing mark. saturday, sunday valentines weekend definitely coldest. the thinks coldest air we have experienced this season. another head liner for potentially next week with a new storm that might be brewing at this point, it looks like it is a tuesday concern but timing off similar with what we had this past week here. we will see how we do we will keep an eye on it. but for now it is all about the cold. >> they are coming. >> traffic cameras, i'm starting to see more and more snow which is odd. more snow flurries still coming down, in certain areas. if you are just waking up good morning, happy wednesday. just know we are still dealing with black ice, out there. it is looking wet in some areas but certainly you can assume black isis still on the roadways. this is a live shot, eastbound

schuylkill toward the blue route and you can see looking like again, as i said, very slick conditions. we just switched here and what you are looking at where we had an accident route 30 eastbound ramp to 202 north bound pulled all the way off to that shoulder for those around that area not causing too many slow downs but it is certainly could. then when we look at headlights you can see that glare on the road surface, this is actually looking more like black ice and then it is, to the wetness we are experiencing from just that melting snow or melting ice. not so much the case now. now it is just too cold. it will hold that ice and refreeze, anything that may be had that you had out. headlight coming in the eastbound direction of the boulevard. this is an area moments ago we were seeing snow coming down and i have updates on flooding coming up in a bit but first we will take a quick break. stay right where you are. cbs-3 "eyewitness news" will be right back.

mayor of flip michigan want to help solve the water crisis. the she's heading to washington d.c. where she will testify before house democrats. reporters kim hutchinson has more on what the mayor will ask for. >> all lead pipes in the city of flint, need to be replaced. >> flint mayor karen weaver did not mix word as she revealed a plan to fix the cities toxic water crisis. >> i'm announcing a fast start plan, an estimate $5.05 million-dollar project, to

remove, and replace, flint's residential lead pipes as quickly as possible. >> reporter: on wednesday, governor rick snyder will ask legislators for an additional 195 million-dollar, to deal with the problem. but he hasn't thrown his support behind pipe replacement the just yet. he will only commit to reviewing the proposal according to a spokesmen who says experts recommend pipes than coated with a chemical preventing corrosion before terming which line should be replaced. snyder says he isn't necessarily opposed to weaver's plan. >> it is more a question of let's do it in a organized, thoughtful, scientific, and engineering correct fashion. >> weaver pulled in punches in her response. >> we cannot wait for that. we don't trust that. we deserve new pipes. i cannot imagine that he would not support this plan. if he doesn't, shame on him. >> reporter: meanwhile team investigating the christ fridays michigan eastern general says criminal charges could be filed.

>> it is not whether you get knocked down that matters, it the is whether you get backup. >> reporter: two contenders will take to the debate stage tomorrow night in wisconsin. but sanders first stopping in new york city where he is speaksed to have breakfast this morning with the reverend al sharpton, chris christie heading north too, new jersey governor says he is going home to quote take a deep breath before deciding whether to stay in the race. we're live from manchester new hampshire weijia jiang for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> weijia, thank you for that support. we are seeing snow showers this morning and the temperature is the big story. that will drop very soon, katie. the just how cold are we talking for the next few days what do you think. >> we will get a couple reenforcement. this storm pull as way and then another reenforcement comes away in the tail end of the week. the that is what we are facing out there but in the meantime what we are finding on storm scan three is a pretty decent pocket of snow showers which

does appear as though it will have a chance to fizzle as time progresses here but regardless, first state of the delaware, most of the del marva peninsula certainly here in philadelphia we are finding quote, unquote, light snow. so what it will do is reduce your visibility out there, we might pick up a quick dusting up to a half inch depending on your location if you get enough intensity briefly here but slick for untreated surfaces, granted, we have an issue of potential for black ice just because of what fell yesterday. watch for reduced visibility. i looked at observations with regard to that. you are generally at 2 miles to as low as a mile, and when we have snow falling, so watch for it but generally speaking we are on the heels of this storm system. it will be wrapping up and out of here pretty quickly. 32 degrees the temperature at ac. philly international at 31 degrees. the westerly wind picking up from ten to 15 but we could see gusts as high as 30 or 35 before the day is said and done in the wake of the

system. once we get rid of the luring concerns we will rebound to the upper 30's, expect to see some sunshine but the other sort of, you know, issue you have to throw in the mix is that wind. it will be net isable and it will make it feel colder then thermometer readings, meisha. >> great to know, thanks very much. happy wednesday, every within. if you are thinking of leaving your homes maybe jumping on the roadway just know it is starting to heat upright now and you are still dealing with this morning with black ice. we have seen slick roadways out there and take a look, this is ben franklin bridge looking very hazy, not quite sure if that is camera lens itself or if visibility really is this much of an issue, either way, just know that conditions this morning are going to slow you down a little bit and they are slippery. give yourself a couple extra minutes but overall ben franklin bridge for those coming from new jersey in the westbound direction is actually looking pretty darn good, and quiet. that is good news in that area one area that is not looking so slow, so quiet, is i-95

south at cottman, we can expect this. i will let you know that this seems heavier than normal. thinking of jumping on interstate i-95, just know it is looking very slow. we are seeing brake lights off in this area but no longer traveling at posted speed and it is only 6:30 in the morning. give yourself a couple extra minutes. we had flooding all cleared, route 47 was block near route 130 but that is all cleared for those in new jersey and flooding that we do still have in new castle delaware airport road, possible lanes are block in and around that area. we have an accident north of wilmington in delaware, erika, back over to you. the zika virus is spreading, north. there are three confirmed cases in our area. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao joining us with the latest, in your area and your state it makes you stand up to say what is going on. >> reporter: it is a concern but health officials say there is in reason to panic. we do expect to learn more today but so far health officials confirmed three

cases in our area one in delaware, two in pennsylvania. these cases are all travel related. these people contracted zika outside of the u.s. health officials are emphasizing these case dose not pose a public health threat but they do want to focus awareness on pregnant with man because they do face the biggest risk. >> growing concern about the zika virus today after health officials new confirmed 66 cases, in the u.s. 3comm from the delaware valley, all woman who traveled abroad. health officials say zika is generally a mild illness that can cause flu like symptoms but most people don't realize they are infect. biggest concern is for pregnant with man, sick ace linked to birth defects and infants whose mother contracted the virus. >> anything which has a potential life threatening effect on our unborn babies is a major concern and we need to take it seriously but i don't think it is time to panic. >> reporter: doctor owen montgomery is chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at

hahnemann university hospital and at this point he says there is in vaccine or medication available for treatment or prevention. sick ace widespread, central in south america as well as caribbean. >> zika virus first detect in the western hemisphere in 2014 has reached u.s. and project to cause up to 4 million cases in this hemisphere. >> reporter: while there hasn't been transmission by mosquitoes in the u.s. just yet cdc fears it is just a matter of time. >> we do think it is likely we will have have limited local transmission in some of those southern states in the winter months now, we have a chance to get ahead. >> reporter: experts say an out break here is not expect to be as bad because the u.s. has better mosquito control. now these new zika cases in our area were confirmed by the cdc through blood tests, several dozen more are pending, health officials are now asking pregnant with man who have traveled to zika stricken countries to speak with their doctors and get tested, even if they are not showing any symptoms.

check this out, if you can right here a snow day for baby bear in fin land's helsinki zoo. julia and her mom sophia played in the winter weather yesterday. while it is fun to watch, it is puts tolling zoo keepers because pair woke from hibernation one month early. one reason according to zoo officials may be because of recent mild weather but getting out, enjoying snow and, you know, gotten off ease think winter in terms of temperatures but now getting an arctic blast. >> you said it. this will be the coldest air we have experienced this season too really a 1/2 punch of cold air coming in. first of which comes through with the first season trying to make its full retreat. we will check with the eyewitness weather watcher network most of the will folks reporting temperatures just shy of the freezing mark by a couple degrees. i want to zero in on these, we will go out to 31.

julianne goldman for cbs news, washington. >> smart bunch of kid. a young girl in gloucester county wants to help scientists fighting a rare cancer. as "eyewitness news" anchor ukee washington shows us her valentines day bake sale is full of love. >> reporter: little girl has a big goal, raise money for a research fund into the the rare cancer, that took her grandmother. erin and her friend sophia love baking. they are in charge as family and friend crack eggs and whip up cake batter. >> it the is just crazy when we're in the kitchen. >> at first we did it for fun and then my mom started to get sick so we dit for her. >> reporter: mom mom was laurie, she had a rare form of adrenal cancer, it is so rare it went undiagnosed for ten years. >> like one in 1 million people get it. >> reporter: her mother julia explained reality of such rare diseases. >> i said to erin that there has to be a way for people to

do research in order to find prevention and cures. i tried to explain that to her. the she's pretty smart. she said we should raise money. >> reporter: what better way than a bake sale. erin assisted and went in the kitchen. they sold their creations at mom mom's church and raised $600. they have gave money to the national organization for rare disorders. >> when we told her she was really happy. >> i felt like happiest she has been since she was sick. >> reporter: mom mom passed in september. erin's bail salees helping fund research grant in the rare cans their took her life. if they can get $33,500 the grant will be funded. so erin is holding another bake sale, on will valentines day. >> i want to have a triple of what we had last time but our goal for money wise is 1200. >> reporter: day of love, tea voted to a woman that they loved. >> she is still here in our hearts and we love her. >> reporter: bake sale is sunday february 14th at bunker hill presbyterian church in washington township gloucester county. it starts at noon.
