i've been blind since birth. i go through periods where it's hard to sleep at night, and stay awake during the day. learn about non-24 by calling 844-844-2424. or visit my24info.com. is new jersey governor chris christie ready to drop out of the race for the white house? the republican finished in sixth place, in yesterday's new hampshire primary. good afternoon, i'm erika von tiehl. the governor is back in the garden state today re-evaluating where his presidential campaign should go from here. "eyewitness news" new jersey reporter, cleve bryan, joins us now live in mt. laurel, where people are really buzzing about the governor's big decision, cleve?
12:01 pm
>> erika, it is wildly expected that governor christie could drop out of the race, to be the gop candidate for president after that poor showing last night in new hampshire. he real had i put a lot of expectations on new hampshire for being a game changer for his campaign, unfortunately, not the game changer he was hoping for. and speaking with some of my colleagues this morning, that covered christie on daily basis, they say it is not really matter if you'll drop out, but win, and how. last night governor christie in new hampshire said he would take a breath from the campaign, come back to new jersey, now, governor christie pretty much kept his foot on the pedal, and the pedal on the floor, all during this presidential campaign season, so for him to take a breath really seems a change of pace, and perhaps, a signal of things to come. governor christie really put that expectation on new hampshire, that it would be a place where voters might connect with him in east coast mid-atlantic guy, but then, a person named donald trump
12:02 pm
another east coast mid-atlantic guy enters the race, and the idea of being the bold and brash candidate really got trumped in a way and governor christie really hasn't been able to pull himself out of the shadow and fight his way out of this open field of republican candidates. and here in new jersey we checked in with some of our residents, to see what they think about how governor christie has handled himself. >> so i didn't think he was a good candidate to run in the first place. >> because anyone in that position would do, that that's just common sense. >> the state we are living in, things we're going through this year, should have been showing his face around here little bit more. >> elected since he was to do a job here, in my opinion, he failed in doing that job. >> governor christie's campaign put out notice early this morning, saying, he cancelled his trip to south carolina, but not making any announcement yesterday about officially suspending ending his campaign or continuing forward. so, we are on christie campaign watch right now, for that formal announcement.
12:03 pm
and if he comes back, when he comes back, the new governor, new jersey as governor, without ac primary focus, he certainly has a lot of things that he needs to deal with, as far as pension reform, making those pension payments, that now the democrats are trying to make part of the new jersey constitution. so should be some interesting times for governor christie today and moving forward. reporting live, cleve bryan, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> we'll see what he decides, cleve, thank you. the 2016 presidential race now moves to south carolina, following last night's new hampshire primary. donald trump scored major victory in the crowded gop field and bernie sanders overwhelmingly defeated hillary clinton by more than 20 percentage points. correspondent weijia jiang reports from manchester, new hampshire. >> oh, wow. >> donald trump dominated the new hampshire republican primary, winning 35% of the vote. he appeared on cbs this morning, saying, his popularity will continue to grow. >> tonight i'm going to south
