investigates a murder investigation. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us at lehigh valley hospital with more on that conditions, justin, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. allentown police tell us that officer is in good condition and it is now, stable. now they also say that the man accused of shooting that officer is now being hospitalized, as well, and lets take to you video from last night, the wounded officer, has in the yet been named but we know he was part of an emergency response team, serving an arrest warrant, on a male suspect. now this happened as a apartment building on the 600 block of north godfrey street about 9:45 p.m., became reports of an officer being shot by a man inside that apartment. law enforcement did fire back here, striking the suspect, police have not said where he was hit or released his condition. initial reports were that male officer was shot in his left arm, and he was brought to lehigh valley hospital, and then back out to the scene a swat style investigation was underway. neighbors were evacuated and

bystanders report hearing a flash bang go off as authorities closed in on that apartment building. someone the on the scene also say a robot was dispatched to the apartment where the suspect was held up. before, being followed in with a stretcher, a and that brought that suspect shooter to the hospital for treatment at 1:00 a.m. >> at the time of the incident there was an exchange of gunfire, the individual was inside, did receive more news from the exchange of gunfire and after a brief standoff we were able to secure him inside the apartment and transport him for treatment as well. >> reporter: now more details on this case are due out later this morning. that officer and suspect both recovering at this hour. police say this warrant is tied to the death of a woman who was found dead, on sunday, and recycling container. they do in the know much about her at the this point. they say that she's of asian dissent between 18 and 30 years old, 5 feet tall and 119-.

a bizarre accident on a basketball court and one we have never seen before school video shows the girl went flying across the floor and could not get up. that floor board had split, and then 4 inches of it stuck in the player. now, fortunately she was not seriously injured but the gym was evacuated and girl was rush to the hospital. >> like a strike of lightening. you just don't think that will happen. complete fluke. i think sometimes strange things happen and there is no explanation. doctors say she will be on

the court very soon. there were two tornadoes that did this damage in southern florida and it is not even tornado season. powerful wind snapped trees, overturned an 18 wheeler slowing traffic to a crawl on i-95 yesterday morning. the storms also knocked down power lines, sparking several fires including this shed near miami. weather service says damage was caused by ef1 tornadoes with wind of 86 to 110 miles an hour. hopefully a quieter day for them in miami. we are happy for this quiet day for us, tranquil, right. >> storm system clearing out for them was same one that affected us yesterday with damaging storms as well but thankfully you can see shield of cloud pushing well out to sea for everyone. a much better looking forecast a across the eastern third of the you had. disturbance crossing over great lakes. it will not have any impact. just it will bring a couple cloud. a breeze, nothing more. back to reality folks, mid 40's today.

retailer target will soon offer shopping carts designed for families with special needs. it is called, caroline's cart, inspired by a child with tourette's syndrome. many kid with special need can step in on their own and those to use a wheelchair can ride safely without their parents being forced to maneuver a cart and a wheelchair. >> these carts are changing everything for us. she's enjoying it. she likes to be inside of the view of everything. i can finally bring bella with me anywhere. she likes to be out. she doesn't want to stay home all the time. this is a great way to include families with special needs.

there burlington bristol bridge is back down. an accident in new jersey's black horse pike southbound near nicholson road two lanes still blocked there, erika, back over to you. allentown police officer is expect to recover after he is shot on duty. it happened on the 600 block of north godfrey street two blocks from where body of the woman was found in the recycling container on sunday. police say the officer was serving a search warrant related to that woman's death when someone shot him in the left arm. that suspect was also wounded. the blooming dale's at liberty place in center city is hit the by brazen shoplifters. nine men wearing ski masks stole 20 to 30 pairs of jeans from that store just as it was about to close last night. the value of all of those jeans, about $2,000. the suspect's fled going east on chestnut street. 6:33. we now know that there will be three new charter schools in the city of philadelphia a when the next school year comes around. the crowd at last night school reform commission cheered as panel made the announcement,

as russell byers academy and kipp north philadelphia those are all new schools. they will open this come september. others were reject. several families will send their children to one of of the most sought after charter steals in the city. last night mast community charter school in northeast philadelphia held its admissions lottery. there were only 99 slots opened, for more than 8,000 applicants. win or lose their parents say they just want their children in the goodwill school. >> coming up here for past three years trying to get my son in. he will be in third grade next year but i have been coming up here since kindergarten. my sister and my brother graduated from here. it is the best school. >> we will be excited if she's accepted but if not, i have three or four more years to deciding whether i will be move outside the city or not you might wonder what makes the mast charter school so popular. we are told it has a unique

northeast philadelphia now that roof was only put on last year after the club spent five years, fund raising, to pay for that work. the fortunately though no one was injured. more storm damage right here in philadelphia's fairmount neighborhood high wind blew down scaffolding, the steel crashed down on the park car at 21st and parish. no one was hurt here. i know you have been seeing examples of the damage from the storm system. >> we will take you through a short list of the crazy weather rolling through our area the in the last couple days. we had reports of, 5 inches of snow. that happened in seaford, delaware. quarter inch of ice in forks township. 65 miles an hour was reported in salem county. over an inch of rain in quakertown where franklin we ended up with heavy rain yesterday in most locations, as that line rolled through. it was a very heavy swath of precipitation. as we go out to the eyewitness weather watcher network we had good pictures to came in the height of the storm when that rain came through. this is sent from phil, a shot

from yesterday, time stamp it the 12:44 in the afternoon right about the time that really, heavy, drenching squall line came through, and yes, this is height of the storm, you could barely made out the roadway taken out in chestnut hill. i will show you temperature list where we stand right now. andy has 33 degrees. mid 30's from dawn in downingtown, atglenn where ed is, chesterfield where other ed is, he has 30 degrees and in the the mid 30's both in philadelphia, eagleville, lawrenceville, and 34 and the list goes on. that is generally the normal, we will have not quite as much variety as we had yesterday where we had 30's, 40's, 50's, and just as the warmth started to surge in our area. that was more uniform. storm scan three showing is what up, not too much, high pressure in control this little pocket of snow showers do not want to you worry about that. it will trigger digsal cloud, maybe a hint of the breeze but nothing more. high pressure is ruling the area for the next couple days. tomorrow bright and sunny,

nicholson road two lanes are still, blocked. so now that we are getting so many vehicles on the roadways pushing toward 7:00 we can expect that to slow you down, quite a bit, erika, back to you. philadelphia public schools is struggling to keep their libraries opened so a team of former educators and will volunteers stepped up to get the books back in the hand of the children. ukee washington has this weeks story of brotherly love. >> reporter: volunteers not only, opened the library but they teach the children almost every day and we caught up with them in german town. >> you are going to go back and meet. >> reporter: bernice sherman is a gentle traffic cop guiding five and six years old to story time at kelly elementary. that is john davis, a retired educator and musician went to philly public schools back when libraries were standard. >> that opened up the world to me. i was able to go places, to things, find out things that i wouldn't have had i not had

the experience of reading. >> reporter: kelly elementary has had a librarian for two years when retired principal, peggy found out she and other volunteers found out and got it backup and running. >> it a has become a dumping ground. there were boxes all around, and just a lot of dusty books. >> reporter: but lots of those books were great for kid and in good condition. they got rid of outdated books, cleaned up the good ones and got them laminated, free thanks to a friendly staples manager. they added signs to the shelves and posted colorful artwork on the walls. >> they did such a great job in organizing the books in various ge nres, grade levels, interest. >> reporter: they stock around every weekday volunteers held library classes. >> they come, read a allowed and read allowed, and finish and then they get to choose a book for the next week. >> that is cute.

we have 40 of them. and then five or six that i go visit, and we have climbing in them. >> fantastic. i know robert redford is narrating this and that is terrific. we are looking at pictures. can you walk us through what we are seeing. >> we are climbing on devil's tower and devil's tower is a monument in south dakota. it is the beautiful place and this is calmer of the salt. we will go ice climbing in the national lake shore. we go skiing there we have wintertime activity the and summer activity. >> now you are such a legendary climber. what sit like seeing this movie and seeing your experience? is it anything close. >> this is something i can do to give back to the national parks. i'm a professional climber. everything i do is basically on public land. so there is no stadiums for climbing. you go outdoors. you go to the poconos, you go the mountains in new york.

there is always these wonderful connection toss national parks. so it is i way to give something back to them. >> have you always been a climber? when did you start. >> i started by age two we were horse packing and by 14 i was with ropes, and sort of getting after it. >> my gosh. >> what sit like to be able to give back and get some younger fans interested in just appreciating nature and getting outside. >> the national parks has been referred to as america's best idea and this year for centennial is there free park admission for all fourth graders. if you have a fourth grader in your family thinks a year to plan a trip to the park. >> it is highlighted, towards that age group too, the length, what it talks about. >> yes, that is large part why it is at franklin science center because kid go there, they are curious they want to do things. it talks about how the parks were created with theodore roosevelt with john muir having this great idea and some of the nature and it is not just humans there that we

have places for animals to live and be happy and there is a couple really cute scenes in there with prairie dogs and brown bears. >> you had me at prairie dogs. >> you have climbed legendary mountains. was there anyone in particular that you think back and say wow, that was an adventure in 2011 we made it to the summit of maru a peak in india. it took me three years and three spedtition toss finally get success on it. these expeditions as a five week long journey. >> you have a great understanding here. >> we have a good team. >> just tremendous. i love imax experience you can have in 3-d. what is that like to see the film and have an experience it of it yourself. >> seeing tonight 3-d is no substitute to getting out in the parks. you have to get out there and experience them and get a blister and get cold hands. the get some wind, and leaves in your hair but this is a

great introduction to the national parks. if you see them, and out there and like okay, i kind of knew something like that was out there but now i know it is there and we're going to go there. >> can't wait to see this thank you so much. we want to see pictures. i believe we have a couple if you can pull up. here we get where is this right here. is this the frozen water wall. >> this is on the upper peninsula of michigan, completely unexpect. we had hoped to shake out west on ice climbs which is what i to, dry winter. last year was a cold winter. lake superior was frozen over. >> is this what. >> this is a small cave that goes in there and so still that these feathers of the ice grow, so it is a really beautiful place to be. >> last but not least doing some climbing in wyoming. >> is that you. >> yep. >> you are brave. >> we climb up, the little crack. if you have a handle that is the size of the coffee mug put yourself on it.
