pope francis suggests donald trump is not christian what the republican presidential front runner is saying tonight about the pontiff's comments. and a cold night underway but as we head into the weekend it will be feeling like spring. i'll tell you a few things you may need to know before you make some outdoor plans this weekend. the william penn statue stands tall above our city. it's 27 tons of bronze sitting a top city hall. how did he get up there? good question. nicole brewer has the history. good evening everyone, i'm jessica dean. >> i'm ukee washington. just when we thought this presidential campaign couldn't get more interesting, donald trump has a new challenger pope francis. >> the pope said trump is not christian for wanting to build a wall on the us mexico border. "eyewitness news" david spunt is live with how trump responded tonight. david. >> reporter: jessica, donald trump and pope francis are heavy hitters from very different schools of thought and tonight they're taking spots at each other when pope francis was here in philadelphia last year, he

stayed out of political talk but tonight that mixture of religion and politics is dominating the conversation. >> the pope is being told drum is that not a nice person, okay. >> donald trump is a very nice. >> on his way back from mexico pope francis ordered a reporter's question about donald trump and his stance on immigration. the pope responded in part quote a person who thinks only about building walls wherever they may be and not building bridges is not a christian. that is not in the gospel "few hours later, trump fired back. >> for religious leader to question a person's faith is disgraceful. i'm proud to be a christian and as president i will not allow christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened unlike what is happening now with our current president. report trump went on to say the mexican government continues to feed propaganda to the pope. it's a charge the vatican deni denies. on wednesday, pope francis celebrated mass with thousands

tonight, david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you, david. former secretary of state hillary clinton who campaigned in las vegas will get a big endorse many tomorrow from south carolina congressman jim klieburn. one of the top african-american leaders on capitol ill h emotional moment on the campaign trail at a town hall in clemson south carolina ohio governor john kasich hugged a 21-year-old supporter as he broke down. it happened as he recounted a recent string of hard ships in his life. >> it takes just second to be distracted. police say three suspects you've the opportunity to commit two robberies just 45 minutes apart. and tonight we're learning it's not the first time. natasha brown is live in plymouth township with the video police want you to see to help them crack the case. natasha. >> reporter: well police are telling us that the crime that happened here at the plymouth meeting mall back in january is just one stop along a crime spree for the suspects that spans up and down the east coa

coast. police in several states are on the hunt for three men involved in an organized retail theft ring. police say the group originated in the washington, d.c. maryland area and this surveillance video shows their crime spree entering upper gwynned township montgomery county on januar january 19t 19th. >> they're targeting high end electronic, small high end electronics from cell phone stores and like. >> reporter: surveillance video from the at&t store in the 1500 block of valley forge road shows all three suspects entering the store separately. eventually one of the men makes his way via a store full of customers into a storage room where he grabs i phones and i pads. >> at our store they took six cell phones and 2i pads. >> i guess it could happen anywhere. really -- i really it must have been random thing. i don't think it's a high crime area. i'm surprised to hear that happen in this area. >> reporter: little did police know 45 minutes earlier, the men had already hit this sprint store inside plymouth meeting

mall. swiping a phone from the displ display. police have e tide 22-year-old delonte davis of bowie, maryland as one of the men in the video. police believe they've been targeting stores all along the east coast from north carolina to new jersey. >> we put information bulletins out to the stores that are in our areas and we're fairly certain that the stores within their chains and respective businesses share the information amongst themselves. >> reporter: well police here in montgomery county are now working with authorities in other states trying to track down all three these suspects. arrest warn has been issued for the one suspect who is known to police. we're live in plymouth meeting to night. natasha brown cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> natasha, thank you for that. police are searching for suspects in the burglary of a sent city department store. thieves broke into the century 21 store on market street around 4:45 this morning. they stole about $2,000 worth of chroming, accessories and happened bags. on tuesday, suspects stole jeans

from the bloomingdale's outlet at liberty place. right now it's unclear if the two incidents are connected. well tonight search is on for the cause of a fire that gutted part of a warehouse in northeast philly. bright orange flames and thick smoke consumed warehouse on the 7700 block of he had monday street in holmesburg. chopper thirty four over the scene around 6:00 o'clock. the warehouse sits next to septa tracks and the fire fight caused delays on the trenton regional rail line. schedules are back to normal tonight. >> police in camden want residents to be on guard against scam artists. robinson was one of the victims. he got a call saying someone in his family was badly hurt in a car accident. the caller then took it further telling him he needed to pay up because his daughter was the one who caused the crash. >> wanted me to meet him at the walgreens in pennsauken to give him $500 in cash. >> robinson got suspicious, hung up and then called his daughter who was safe at work. camden police have received

about 15 similar reports and they want people to be on alert. south jersey police officer saves of life of two month old boy after he suddenly stops breathing. officer kevin injury again son was on call when he got a call about unresponsive infant at home. the boys mother began cpr and the officer took over when he got there. his department had just gone through updated cpr training. >> i did turn the baby over and applied several thrusts to his back. i turned him over and began compressions on his chest. he open his eyes so quick like this i'm like did he just open his eyes? i couldn't believe it. i was dumb founded. >> we're thankful we had the out come that we did. it could have gone a lot of different ways. >> baby brian is now recovering at saint christopher's hospital. it is a fixture of the philadelphia skyline that watches over our city. we're talking about the william penn statue perched a top city hall. >> it may look it but the statue isn't small. how did they get it up there all those years ago? that's a good

>> this is cbs3 "eyewitness news" with ukee washington, jessica dean, kate bilo and don bell. beyonce' is in hot water with some law enforcement over her super bowl half time perform man. this is one of the images now making the rounds on social media. it says back the blue boycott beyonce'. the fraternal order of police in miami has voted to boycott working security when her formation tour kicks off in miami in april. beyonce' super bowl performance was tribute to the black panthers and has been criticized by some as anti police. no word tonight from beyonce' about the potential boycott. meanwhile the philadelphia police department has a solution to the money problems of kanye west and it's gone viral. the department tweet add picture with kanye photo shopped in police uniform letting him know that the department is hiring. the tweet has been viewed more

outside. subfreezing in the city right now. and even worse in the pine barrens interior south jersey and certainly to our north and west. here's our neck weather maker a system moving in from the west warm front drapes through the great lakes and it's got a few rain and snow showers with it. notice how far north they are. most of these will miss us to the north but in the poconos lehigh valley tomorrow evening don'ting shock were rain or snow shower rolls through. 20's across our map except mount pocono even worse at 15. 25 in reading. 29 in philadelphia right now. got a pair of twos in millville and keep in mind only 11:20 hit our lows early tomorrow morning probably right around 6am. feeling colder than the thermometer indicates thanks to brisk wind outside. fels like three in mount pocono. 20 in the city. feels like 19 in wilmington generally feels about 10 degrees colder than you the temperatur temperatures. we're climbing up from 37 degrees today's high. 20 degrees higher by saturday. we'll get to 57. there's a chance we can go for

around. >> reporter: back in june, the phillies made pete mackanin the ept rim manager and in september they took away the interim tag. here in day two of spring training, pete mccann nan starting to put stamp on the fightin' phils. this ain't pete mccann nan's fir rodeo he's in spring training for the 48th time. >> there isn't a year that went by or day that goes by i don't hear something i haven't heard before. >> that may be true but this his his spring training as manager he's looking to put his own spin on it. >> i'm going to bear down on certain type of fundamentals and the way we go about working on them, and we're going to bombard them with certain things that i think are important. >> report roar this is day one of practice but players already have a special hip in their hop. the manager's attitude has a lot to do with it. >> i really like to be around him. i think he has good feel on how to handle players. good times and bad. he communicates well with us.

(cheers and applause) then trump's okay because he has not said things like that. he has said exactly that. (laughter) okay. because trump wants to build a wall around this country. i wonder where he could have gotten a crazy idea like that. maybe the vatican?! (laughter)
