that could be spoiling the next couple of days. and wet weather could linger for a while. good evening, i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. meteorologist kate bilo is tracking this double trouble in the cbs-3 weather center, kate. >> this is again going to span bet are part of the three day, tomorrow, wednesday and even into thursday, the heaviest comes wednesday evening, but that is not to discount the storm that will impact us tomorrow that could lead to a mess on area roadways. pretty much all day long. you can see it gathering moisture here in the deep south, second storm is back here, not really looking visible just yet with you that secondary storm will be stronger then the first one and that one brings our best chance for some thunderstorms here in philadelphia. this is mainly rain, already sneak nothing to portions of extreme southern virginia at the moment. i do expect rain to get in the virginia majority by mid-morning tomorrow, temperatures have been mile, as we no, we were in the 60's both days. today we got to the low to mid 50's. now we are at 48 degrees in

the city. forty-three in allentown. forty-seven in reading. you can see relatively mild all across the greater north east. forty-eight in d.c. thirty-nine in scranton. the as this storm comes in portions of the far north and western suburbs could be at or below freezing. the that means at noon time tomorrow we could see a little bit of snow from allentown to mount pocono. rest of us dealing with rain. it does change over to rain just about every where but notice heavier rain will be down the shore tomorrow and then this wave moves out but don't think we're out of the woods just yet. we have got another round of heavy rain moving in, by wednesday, afternoon, coming up, we will time that wave of rain out and tell you when heavier rain will be and best threat for thunderstorms are and probably most importantly when we will get this out and get sunshine back. for now back to you. >> kate, thank you. tomorrow marks 25th anniversary of the devastating 12 alarm fire at one meridian plaza in center city. in an "eyewitness news" tv exclusive our walt hunter talk with the fire fighter who

survived what was called the worst high rise fire in american history prior to 9/11. >> reporter: inside burning one meridian building, 28 floors above the street, as they searched for three missing fire fighters, suddenly then lieutenant mike yeager and his eight man rescue team found they too were trapped. >> we could not find our way out of that. we had no air lift. we had no idea what we were going to do. >> reporter: fortunately yeager and his crew were found flown to safety to the roof by a helicopter but final radio calls from the the three lost fire fighters found dead hours later on the 28th floor, never for gotten, by the heroes who tried so hard to save them. >> president captain had us out of there, we need help. then there was nothing. >> reporter: yeager says lack of sprinklers, failed, power and the water supply system, made it impossible to contain the flames which gutted eight full floors. >> everything was against us,

and there was no, elevators, there was in lights, there was no pumps. >> hour in time delay before they get a water source. it will be effective on the fire. >> reporter: thomas says over the past 25 years major improvements in high rise safety, most importantly sprinklers. >> they are mandatory in high rise buildings. >> reporter: now close cooperation among fire fighters, city officials and building owners to sure fire safety systems meet new tougher standard. >> we hope never to have a tragedy of this level or this event ever again. >> reporter: however yeager says on that terrible night 25 years ago, one thing didn't fail, the courage of fire fighters, who risked their lives, over and over again, trying to save the three heroes who perished. >> i saw more heroics acts on that fire, pure human you cannot believe a guy could keep going the way they were going. >> reporter: now five years later, chief yeager still trying to save lives raising

awareness about the problem of fire fighter suicides driven by stress. meanwhile at noon time tomorrow a moment of silence at local 22 fire union headquarters, and for the three fire fighters who died that terrible day, at one meridian. live from center city, i'm walt hunter cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> that it was walt, thank you. former miss new jersey died from injuries she suffered in the car accident last week in pittsgrove township. twenty-four year-old cara mccollum passed away this morning. the 249 year-old loss control on route 55, she heat trees and ended up in an embankment. she was not wearing a seat belt. we're told the princeton university graduate was anchor of snj today a news program based out of millville. >> she was just such a down to earth person. she will greatly missed. >> official cause of the car accident remains under investigation. well, hundreds, celebrate the life of acel moore,

senior. a giant in philadelphia's journalism community. "eyewitness news" at the grace baptist church in germantown. moore was one of the first african americans reporters at philadelphia inquirer and one of the first black journalist to win a pulitzer price for investigative journalism. he is a founder of the philadelphia association of black journalist and founding member of the the national association of black journal his. moore was also a steadfast advocate for diversity in news rooms, and amen for, to countless, young journalist. well, lawyers for seven of accusers suing bill cosby for defamation are trying once again to obtain legal documents from the andrea constand case. the news comes after cosby's wife camille was deposed this morning over the defamation suit. lawyers for the woman argued cosby should not aloud to keep constant case files secret even though civil case ended with a confidential settlement. bill cosby is set for a preliminary hearing next month for criminal charges connect to the constand case.

girl scout cookie stand sparks a chain of generosity. "eyewitness news" report earth greg argos shows how the man's good deed went much further then he expected. >> reporter: when girl scout lauren lindsey competes in front of the willow grove wal-mart. she had go to question that she asks most potential customers. >> i say would you like to buy girl scout cookies. they say yes or no. >> reporter: james chapman had a response that completely caught her off guard. >> we were casual willly selling girl scout cookies. a man walk up. >> here's a hundred bucks. >> to give away the next 25 boxes. >> as i'm handing her hundred dollars i said seriously, see you. >> reporter: james went in the wal-mart but left behind a chain reaction with some folks accepting the free cookies and making even more donations. >> it made me feel excited, happy and helped me reach my goal of 300 boxes. >> reporter: others thinking it was all a joke. >> some people actually said no, they thought it was a mine trick.

>> reporter: but one five-year old boy offered last of the 25 boxes james doe nateed left another impression on lauren, pulling a single will dollar bill from his pocket he had been saving and handing it over to her. >> it makes me feel good. >> that is so cool. >> i would love to meet little kid. >> when you do stuff like that it is a ripple effect that is a awesome. >> reporter: girl scouts of the eastern pennsylvania release add a statement in part saying we cannot thank this customer enough for set ising a great example and sparking a chain of kindness. this a amazing story just goes to show that girl scout cookies are about so much more than what is inside the box. the james and lauren gree and say they hope this act of kindness sparks others throughout the region. reporting from willow grove, i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> you never know. >> they call it, the cathedral and tonight palestra could become, a place for two teams from the same school. >> "eyewitness sports" reporter pat gallen is in university city where

philadelphia high school has a chance to take home two titles and that is not all that is on the line, pat? >> correct ukee and guess contact we are live here at the palestra as you called it cathedral of college basketball but for tonight it is all about high school hoops and it is philadelphia catholic league championships tonight and a program that you talk about both girls and boys team they are very impressive. they are both in the champion ship game tonight and as you mentioned a couple of very impressive streaks are on the line. >> there is brown, alley hoop. >> reporter: newman goretti high school has become a basketball juggernaut. how has it happened? >> you know, the older guys pass willing it down to the next group and the next group. it has been pretty interesting to see it evolve and it has been rewarding just to see it continue. >> reporter: tonight both boys and girls team will play for a catholic league title. girls battle archbishop wood while the boys take on roman catholic, rematch of the 2015 title games.

>> our seniors have won three years in a row at palestra. not many people, can say that. >> we held split last year. >> reporter: losing isn't and option for goretti girls team. in fact it almost never happens. >> 2014, in the state championship game. it has been a long time. >> reporter: the boys coach karl has seen nearly enough winning thanks to the crazy talent on his roster which includes all five starters being scouted by, division one programs. >> we have one committed right now, and we have two other, senior guard have offers they are mulling over, two juniors, high level guys they have ac c, big east. >> there might be pressure but you wouldn't know it. >> is there always some pressure but, i have been doing this a long time now. i just want to go home and take my nap. >> how can you take a nap before a game like this? anyway, the girls have taken the court behind me.

rowan university students have an incredible opportunity that is out of this world. >> our cleve bryan tells us about emerging technology students are working own and how it could change the way we store data. >> if you were to tell these rowan university engineering students the sky is the limit on their education, you would be wrong. some are about to embark on learning beyond the atmosphere experiments in space. >> i really, really am excited. >> reporter: but since electrical and computer engineering professor chin just got a grant from nasa to send research project in orbit. it is about a type of experimental electrical circuit that could be used to store incredibly large amounts of data using very little power. >> probably in the near future, i would recommend, flash memories and ram, any type of computer. >> reporter: rowan doesn't have a device just yet, but getting in touch with nasa was

video from the palmyra cove nature park and you can see beautiful sunset over philadelphia a. maybe the last sunset we have seen for a few days because clouds are moving in, again, two storms to track, one producing rain in the the deep south, second just getting its act together other west texas but this one is the one we have to deal in the near term. secondary low is stronger and comes through on wednesday. let's time it out here, 1:00 a.m. still just some cloud pushing in. this will get in here by mid-morning, by 9:00 a.m. we will see first drops around the philadelphia area, and it lifts to the north and you could see a little will mixing with snow in the lehigh valley and poconos. midday tomorrow. by 11:00 a.m. that moves on out. break in the action here right through wednesday morning, 5:00 a.m. not too bad and then second stronger low comes n note that is western track we talk about last week track to the west of the city, warmer track that is certainly a rainy track but a lot of rain coming through, 8:00 p.m. wednesday, 9:00 o'clock, 10:00 k

it is a very wet wednesday evening in the overnight hours as well. as far as precipitation types we do expect snow or mix to rain and our far north and western suburbs through pocono region. this is a a rain maker in fact through the next three daisy don't expect to see any other kind of precipitation in the city or south jersey and delaware. how much snow? not much. maybe an inch or so in the poconos mostly on grass surfaces. light coating in the northern parts of the lehigh valley and that is bit. bigger impact from this system will be rain and the wind, heavier of the rain from tuesday morning, right through wednesday, the heaviest right about here wednesday night into thursday morning. wind will go up to 40 miles an hour especially through the day wednesday. coast will be strongest. poor drainage flooding could last into thursday morning and expect slow travel through the duration of the event. wednesday morning commute not as bad wednesday evening is worst of it. we will have an inch and a half of rain across the vast majority of the region and that means flooding concerns will be with us right through thursday.

the cloud increasing overnight, chilly rain, rain arrives tuesday. cool day at 45. eyewitness weather seven day forecast not another day like today in the next seven days, we have got rain, tuesday, wednesday, into thursday morning and then it gets colder but that is as of now it looks dry, right through next weekend with sunshine each day. that is some good news. we have sun coming back but i don't know if we have had a sunny day in the the 50's for a while. >> it was real. >> yeah, thanks kada appreciate it. another eagle has landed. big p

a fortune of plays playing baseball. just south of here he has more than 5 miles from where i am right new bright house field and that is where he got it started with the phillies, during spring training. and speaking of spring training today, the full squad reported and, of course that means big fellow at the end of his five-year contract, and that means he will get paid 25 million this year but he is 36 years old. team is moving toward younger players. what does the future hold for him? well, today he didn't talk but his manager did. >> let's just say that ryan howard is probably not in the future whether that is a year or two or three now. ryan might have a big this year and get another contract for all i know. i'd like to see that happen because if that happens, we're going to be a much better team. >> ryan is expect to speaker to the media tomorrow so of course we will have that story for you tomorrow, from spring training. also, one other thing to note miguel franco the guy who is supposed to be third base man
