days is incredibly strong and dynamic and you can see center of the low way back here over portions of the midwest but it is pumping in lots of warmth, and moisture. you have may have felt difference in the temperature from this morning into the afternoon as warm air has been pushed in and that is fuel for these thunderstorms developing a along this nasty squall line, right now, extending from central pennsylvania, right on down into portions of north carolina where we have had a number of tornado warnings and reports of the wind damage there. we have got this bap of heavy rain if we zoom in closer to our area first let's show what you is happening as far as watches and warnings. what you see here in orange red color is tornado watches, extended from philadelphia, all the way down through north carolina tornado watch does not mean tornadoes is on the ground but conditions are favorable for formation of the tornado. what you see here is darker red shadings for this storm and this one was tornado warned a bit ago we have a few tornado warnings but that means tornadoes are doppler indicated or spot erin kate odd the ground, very close to

salzberg maryland and could head up into sussex county when we have to keep an eye on as there is a tornado warning a associated with that particular cell. the lets take a look at what we have tornado watch wise until 11:00 p.m. only part of the region not included in the tornado watch is lehigh valley and poconos. rest of the region in the tornado watch until 11:00 p.m. even though tornadoes are possible, greatest widespread threat for our region this evening and tonight is damaging straight line wind as well as torrential downpours leading to flooding on the roads. you can see how temperatures jumped after warm front moves through we are up to 64 in philadelphia, 64 in trenton. air is more stable, cold inner allentown and reading. biggest threat from the city on south and east and you can see we are in an enhanced risk for severe weather in philadelphia, that is what you see there and notice tornado watches extending pretty much along the length of the mid-atlantic, eastern seaboard, tornado warnings in effect, with the corridor here from d.c. all the way down through southern north

"eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter in the the sat center with more on what this means for his job as governor and how he is going about treatment, walt. >> reporter: ukee, governor tom wolf did what some might think was a surprising amount of smiling, as he announced his prostate cancer diagnosis, the governor saying that he was deeply grateful it was detect early, is fully treatable and won't seriously jeopardize, his ability to govern. >> my wife and i just recently found out that they have a mild case of prostate cancer. >> reporter: governor tom wolf

his wife beside him took a positive approach, as they made his prostate cancer diagnosis, public, for the first time. >> what i'm going through is treatable and actually, will not impair my ability to do my duties. would not interfere with my duties as governor. >> i think we have a great courage and feel okay. we're more than hopeful. >> reporter: governor says first cancer sign, came in an elevated psa reading during a blood test in a routine physical, last november. >> this is not an emergency, this is not something that has to be treated, immediately, and instead the doctors are taking their time. >> reporter: governor while declining to reveal exact details of his upcoming treatment, says it will start in the next couple of months, and will not involve any lengthy, hospital stays. >> we don't want to be particularly sad about this.

just before 3:00 this afternoon a tree came down on some power lines in this neighborhood and it knocked out power to about 2,000 people here. they were able to restore power to about half of the neighborhood, but they are still working, to get this transformer backup and running, so the flames still coming from it. we did speak with some neighbors who told us tonight when the power went out they heard a power surge through the house, light bulbs pop, sparks coming out of the dishwasher. we spoke with one man who said it sounded like a lightening strike he ran to the front door and saw the pole on fire and here's what he had to say. >> i saw lights all went out and then they came back on and they went out and they just stayed out. it was a lot. >> it was a lot. >> oh, yeah real loud like the whole house shook a little bit. then i looked out back, and there is other power lines, out back and to see what was going on and then i came out front and saw that whole pole

we have a live look with the cbs mobile weather lab, rain coming down, tornado watches are in effect throughout the area, kate bilo will have a closer look at areas facing biggest threat with severe weather coming up in just a a few minutes. we have learned that pennsylvania governor tom wolf has prostate cancer and he says it is a treatable form. >> health reporter stephanie stahl, is here to tell us what his treatment will look like. >> we spoke with the oncologist who treats patient was prostate cancer just like tom wolf. there are a couple different treatment options for the governor. >> it is not a partisan battle that is on the mind of governor tom wolf. >> i have a mild case of prostate cancer. >> it is a personal one, as a 67 year-old gets ready for his fight against prostate cancer. >> the normal types of treatment, and, i will just leave it at that. >> reporter: governor was vague about what his treatment will entail but urological

oncologist david chen has a good idea. he won't be treating governor wolf but works with other prostate cancer patients. >> there are two categories of treatment which we would say are equal, performing surgery, having a man go through an operation to remove the prostate or under going some kind of a radiation therapy. the results on early treatment are excellent. >> reporter: detecting it early is key. >> this is an example, of why routine checkups, actually matter. >> most men with prostate cancer can do fine and live normal lives. >> reporter: there are no signs of early prostate cancer, so between the age of 45 and 50, men should have a conversation with their doctors about regular screenings. the but if you were experiencing, mild symptoms, like another nateing too often particularly at night, pain during urine nation or sex, pain in the lower back, hipps or thighs make sure to let your physician know. >> it is courageous for governor wolf to share his own story on prostate cancer. >> reporter: now doctors say

and, severe. and, joining us, tornado, and tornado watch, means the conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. it does not mean they are happening and they are not happening in our region right now. if you hear tornado warning which we will bring to you immediately, that is when you need to seek shelter. hopefully we don't have any but threat is there we will take a look what is happening right now, out to storm scan three and this is a a major, storm, very strong, very dynamic system. and it is bringing a strong squall line across much of the mid-atlantic states and into the north east as well. so you can see center of the low is way back over portions of kentucky, tennessee, is there snow on the back edge over portions of michigan, through the great lakes region but we're most concerned about in this line of thunderstorms and you can see how nasty it is. it extend from the state college area all the way down

toward raleigh-durham north caroline, it is continuing to push east and it is flying at about 50 miles an hour, moving to the north and to the east. now this first batch of rain is moving through right now, we do have pockets of heavier rain there. you can see tornado watches and warnings in effect there, red shading encompasses tornado much wases. any darker red indicates storms that are tornado warned at the moment. yellow shading are severe thunderstorm watches and they are dotting the landscape this one moving from maryland into southern delaware. it has a tornado warning with it. we will see if that is continued into sussex county, delaware. that is closest one to our region. the at the moment we are dealing with the heavy rain so you can see heavy yellow and red shading, lancaster county, berks county, chester county. we have a flood advisory for chester county. this will compound that, my hope is that this helps stabilize atmosphere a little bit before this front comes through but notice how close it is moving quickly over the turnpike toward harrisburg and should get here within the

next several hours. the here's the timing, heavy rain, embedded thunder moving through until 6:00 p.m. that will lift up through pocono region, watch squall line as it moves through. what happened is we may see clearing out ahead of the that line, temperatures very, very warm, any clearing we get, any warming thaw get will feed thunderstorms, and look at how nasty they become moving on through, 9:00 o'clock in the city, and, ten or 11:00 we will see, and over portions of new jersey, and then they will finally push out, after about midnight tonight and see, and, for damage aing wind. and thursday afternoon a few breaks of sunshine but all and all not the best day as a transition day. let's talk about severe weather factors. we have plenty of warmth and moisture, temperatures surged in the mid 60's on day out

you can see it, really the scope of the storm with heavy snow from northern maine through portions of eastern canada through great lakes, heavy rain lift nothing to new york state but this is what jumped, and, squall line of nasty, and, producing, tornadoes and wind damage, we have been moving north and east ward during the day. we can see approaching washington d.c. and heading in our direction as well. we have got this rain to get through first. hopefully that stabilizes things a little bit for us but whipped damage is going to be a around through tonight. tornado watches denoted in red from philadelphia, area down through carolinas and we have tornado, warnings, and see darker red shading, tornado warned storm, here, here, and then a few very close to washington d.c. here's our first severe thunderstorm warning. this storm moved into sussex county, delaware. that area is under a a severe thunderstorm warning at the moment. tornado watches in effect until 11:00. conditions are favorable. in tornadoes on the radar for

us just yet the but watch this as we go through tonight, this squall line will pass through our region between 7:00 and 11:00 p.m. and areas that are warm have greatest risk for severe weather. warm front laying right about here so from philadelphia points south, that is where you'lle greatest risk, generally between 7:00 and 10:00 o'clock tonight, coming up we will have much more on the timing of that severe weather. wind that will follow and what you can expect as we head in the weekend. for now, yes, sir contact, back to you. part of the florida are under a state of emergency because of scenes like this one. homes were tossed in the gulf after severe storms turra cross that state last night. correspondent kenneth craig is in atlanta and tells us why other areas are not in the clear just yet. >> at least 70 homes are damage in the pensacola area after suspect tornado, rolled through tuesday night. florida's governor toured destruction and promised victims that help is on the way. >> we're here to make sure everybody is back to living a normal life as quickly as we

further south. so here comes for us. we have heavy rain moving through line now. it is back toward harrisburg moving 60 miles an hour. should get here around 7:00 o'clock tonight and things will really get messy once that squall line hit. damaging wind is our biggest concern for region this evening. temperatures have jumped by the way 40 at midnight. we are in the mid 60's. the that shows how much fuel, energy these storms to have work w we will be looking at heavy torrential rain, poor drainage flooding, powerful wind and that isolated tornado is possible. the here's your tornado watch until 11:00 tonight. no tornado warnings, at the moment, that is good news but watch is here. difference between watch and warnings, watch means conditions are favorable, warning means it is actually happening. we do not have any of those, at the moment but a high risk for downpours, wind, low risk for lightening, hail and low risk for tornado but risk is there as that system moves through. we will time it out on our future radar coming up there in the moment. the gusty thunderstorms, very windy. quick peak at your seven day

washington. i'm jessica dean. lets get over to meteorologist kate bilo. what can you tell us right the now. >> right to you d.c. area nation's capitol is getting clobbered by severe thunderstorms. look at this line moving right in the middle of rush hour. good news if there is good news no tornado warnings at this time for that region. it is under a severe thunderstorm warning which is not good, very strong damaging wind here but no tornadoes reported around d.c. area as of of yet. that line is making its way very quickly into our region within the neck half an hour, do i expect it to move in lancaster county within the next hour. we will see those storms progress toward the philadelphia area between seven and 10:00 p.m. that is our window of strongest storms, philadelphia and surrounding suburbs. you can see line of wind, it is just flying. if this storm is just line of wind is moving 60 miles an hour, wind at least 60 miles an hour possibly stronger. we have got strong wind in the upper at the months fear that this system taps into and look the at the amount of
