crews put the finishing touches on this year's philadelphia flower show. what one veteran designer says is the secret to a beautiful exhibit. before we get too excited about spring, winter is making it clear that it is not over yet. good evening everyone, i'm ukee washington. >> i'm jessica dean and tonight we are tracking a drop in temperatures and then snow. meteorologist kate bilo joins us now with details on when this weather moves in. kate? >> jessica and ukee, definitely feeling like winter outside and fittingly because it is still winter even though the past few days didn't really feel like it today we felt that drop in the mercury. in fact temperatures right now 20 to 25 degrees colder than they were at this time last night when we were awaiting that line of rain that came through overnight. it was 23 degrees warmer last night at this time than it is now. it's been 26 degrees a drop from last night in lancaster much much colder and winds were very strong today. we had few wind gusts reported 50 miles an hour. those strong winds bringing colder air in place now that the

cold air has settled in you can see all the blues and purples overhead a system riding along the boundary between cool and warm and that's going to produce snow for us. coming up i'll tell when you the snow gets here, when it moves out, how much you'll see and whether it will impact your friday morning commute. for now back to you jessica. >> kate, thank you. multiple people are dead and part highway is shut down tonight after a violent crash. authorities stay five people died tonight when tract trailer collided with their car in upper macungie lehigh county that accident happened on route 222 near route 100 just before 4:00 o'clock this afternoon. investigators say the car crossed the median into the path of the big rig. both vehicles then caught fire. no one inside the tractor trailer was injured. the road is still closed tonight as authorities investigate the cause of the crash. two suspects target a neighborhood who refuses to be victim much eyewitnesses say that man shot the suspects after they attacked him in queen village. that's where our natasha brown is right now with what police

and neighbors are saying tonig tonight. natasha? >> reporter: well, we can tell you that the investigation into this shooting is continuing at this hour but what is clear is that this is a neighborhood that certainly not used to seeing this kind of violence. >> i never really worried about save tow. >> reporter: for residents in this queen little village neighborhood violent crime seems world away. an isolated event outside of their parameters. >> this neighbor is known as nice place to live. families, quiet, pretty pleasa pleasant. it's surprising to hear something like that. >> on tuesday evening stunned neighbors heard gunshots. >> i'd heard shouting and i saw the guys punching our neighbor. i didn't see our neighbor punch anybody. he was on the ground being beaten. then i heard gunshots. >> reporter: police say just after 8:30 tuesday night, a 65-year-old man and his wife were walking home near second and bainbridge streets along the way they were met with a 20 and 21-year-old man. police say a verbal altercation

quickly escalated into a physical attack on the couple. that's when officers say the 65-year-old man pull out a handgun and fired thee shots hitting the two suspects. >> i was all bloody like the actual eye ball looked like it was bloody. he had blood all over his face and neck. >> possibly this 65-year-old may have been acting in self-defen self-defense. >> reporter: residents like joe mcnichol are unnerved. his five month old daughter zoey in tow. hours after a mid evening shooting in a normally safe and walkable community. >> it's horrible. and so i mean i can't imagine what the families of the people that had to deal with that are going through but it doesn't -- i think it's more of an anomaly than like normal occurrence. >> reporter: well the 20-year-old was shot in the chest. the 21-year-old in the neck and both are stable at jefferson hospital tonight. meantime, the 65-year-old alleged shooter he stayed at the scene turned himself in to police and also turned over his semi automatic weapon. that's the very late at the time

the white house. in a statement he said he did not see political path forward. mayor jim kenney making a push for body cameras for philadelphia police officers. the mayor will ask city council for $1.1 million for 800 body cameras. the mayor says the cameras are quote an important step forward to improve relations between police and residents. commissioner richard ross also says body cameras would be a welcomed tool to the department. the story of emotional reunion. >> young woman meets the two police officers who saved her live at a montgomery county wawa and only "eyewitness news" was there. annie fitzpatrick cried as she hugged lower merion township police officers jeff sullivan and rob were the itt we first told you about their heroics last month. they used aed in their patrol car to bring her back to life after she collapsed outside the wawa in penn valley. >> i just think it's amazing. i don't really know what to think about it other than it's a miracle. >> to see her in the condition

♪ >> this is cbs3 "eyewitness news" with ukee washington, jessica dean, kate bilo and don bell. ♪ thieves stop at nothing to break into a houston gun store all captured on camera. they tied a chain around the door handles and yanked the doors off the building. 10 suspects, 10 rushed inside the gun store. they smashed display cases and grabbed as many weapons as they can carry. authorities say the suspects stole at least 50 weapons and they are still on the loose

tonight. a new report is taking a bold new approach to dealing with ovarian cancer. the report says ovarian cancer should not be a considered a single disease. it's a constellation of different cases that begin in the uterus or tube. the report calls for more universal genetic testing for all women with ovarian cancer and their families. it's the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths among women with a five year survival rate of less than frick%. it is one unlucky ship royal caribbean anthemly seas is cutting another cruise short. the ship which was battered by a storm in the atlantic last month returned early today from a different voyage to the eastern crib bow yann this time it was the threat of a storm and a norovirus outbreak that cut the trip two days short. passengers disebark after the short dock at the port in bayonne, new jersey. you can take a trip around the country without ever leaving our area. >> the theme of the 2016

>> thank you pharell. he let me borrow it. >> kate bilo is here with the forecast. i don't know if i want to hear what's coming or what's coming after it. >> the good stuff. first we got to get through the not so good stuff. the winter has been relatively quiet. we had one major storm and then we've had few non starters more rain than snow in february. some people that love winter and love snow will be looking forward to a little bit on friday morning. i only like it if i can stay inside in front of a fireplace and watch it fall. when you have to be out in it that's a problem and this looks like it could be a commute problem friday morning. let's talk more about what we expect start off with a look outside and it's quiet tonight. no problems tonight or tomorrow morning. none of your commute impacted. tomorrow afternoon's commute is fine much this time tomorrow night we'll start to see the snow move on inform let's take quick look at storm scan3. locally nothing going on. a few snow showers lake effect stuff back across western new york and western pennsylvania

but here's the storm that we are watching for tomorrow night into friday right about here producing snow right now across portions of the iowa and illinois. this is going to stay relativ ry diss organize until after it moves off the coast and that's when it's really going to explode. this is a major, major storm. it's just not a major storm for us and it's mainly going to be major storm for the atlantic ocean. really close call. near miss on this one. 33 is the temperature right now in philadelphia. 20s in allentown reading and lancaster much colder night than we've seen recently. we felt that cool down today. trying to ease into that winter pattern at 3:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon it was 64. by 3:00 o'clock this afternoon, it was only 43 degrees. and those winds bringing in that cold air peak wind gust today in the 40 miles per hour range all across he it region just a blustery start to your day. tomorrow starts off with sunshine at tepp am then the clouds will increase and this is where we start to see some snow moving n again by this time tomorrow night we'll be tracking a light snow. make sure you're with us

tomorrow. you can see by midnight light snow overspreading the region that will continue into the overnight and errly morning hours it will be generally scattered. this is not heavy, heavy snow here. it's just light nuisance snow and continues into your friday morning. what you want to watch for the storm develops offshore. could it throw a band back to the west and any spot in south jersey or central delaware that gets in on that band could see the higher end of our range. now this is coming midday on a march day we've got a strong sun angle here it may eventually mix with some rain and that could keep the totals down by about 4:00 p.m. completely offshore. this is tomorrow night right through midday friday lingering again down the shore into the midday hours. mainly a grassy accumulation of a coating to 2-inches. there could be some slow travel and slick spots friday morning. be safe out there. unpaved surfaces certainly elevated surfaces. looking at a general coating to 2-inches of snow definitely not the worst storm we've ever seen in march but still a nuisance for your friday morning commute. but take a look what happens next week. we rebound into the 40s over the
