>> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the new jersey state police department is mourning the loss of one of their own. flags flying at half staff into bellmawr, in honor of trooper sean cullen, he died earlier this morning hours after being hit by a car on i-295 in gloucester county. >> good afternoon, i'm erika von tiehl. trooper cullen was walking near a crash scene whether a

woman hit him while passing by. but as "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch tells us, that driver has not been charged as the investigation continues. outside cooper university hospital's emergency trauma center an overnight flow of new jersey state troopers, officials, and loved ones, of 31 year old trooper sean cullen. cullen was helicopter to cooper suffering serious head and other injuries, after being struck along i295 southbound, near mile marker 23.4 in depford township gloucester county new jersey state police report. chopper three above that scene where trooper cullen was responding to a car crash resulting in fire about 8:15 p.m. monday. other police and fire vehicles were also on scene. officials say cullen was walking along the highway when he was struck by a car driven by a woman age 22. she remained on scene and was reportedly cooperative. the trooper was air lifted to cooper and moved into surgery but despite effort to save his life he was pronounced dead at

12:30 a.m. colonel rick fuentes delivered that news to cooper cullen's family, friends, colleagues, who kept vigil through the night. cullen was a member of the 154th state police class. he served for almost two years and had been based in bellmawr. police say plans for trooper cullen's funeral are pending at this time. and will be released as they're finalized with approval from his family. from cooper university hospital, i'm justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". new jersey state senate president steve sweeney issued this statement that reads in part, quote: the tragic death of trooper sean cullen is a terrible reminder that the men and women who serve to protect us put their lives on the line every day. trooper cullen gave his life in the line of duty and in service to others. a mother and daughter in critical condition, and another daughter also injured, after they were hit by a tow truck in kensington. the accident happened as they crossed the street at b and ontario just before 7:00 last

night. a good samaritan returned to the two girls, ages one and four, to the hospital. the 24 year old mother is also at the hospital. investigators believe the tow truck driver did have the right of way. that 53 year old driver is cooperating with police. police officers had their hands full last night, check it out, tracking two atv riders all the way from somerdale to north philly. chopper three, flew along with the police helicopter as the riders sped dangerously through traffic. the two stashed the atv's and got away on foot. it is against the law to operate atv's and dirt bikes on the streets in philadelphia. a septa employee on his way home from work stumbles upon surprising finds, a bag full of cash and lots of it, too. a honest man, that man who we met at a press conference here at upper darby police headquarters a few moments ago, bob tracey, he is 61, a septa employee, and on his way home at midnight there was the money laying in the road. take a look at the man, and the money. this is mr. tracey, few minute ago, at the press conference, describing how he found a bag with the 15,200 inside. along with him, upper darby police superintendent michael chitwood who had nothing but good things to say about mr. tracey, here is a little bit about what they said at the press conference moments ago. >> i knew i did the right thing. because, you know, in this day and age, how people, you know, how valuable this money is, for so many, if it was a night drop, or, you know, someone leaving the supermarket like i thought, i just thought i was absolutely doing the right thing. i couldn't keep that. in the world of mike chitwood, if nobody claims the money it should go to him. but in the legal world, i don't know, we need to research that.

>> and still unanswered chitwood says is where did that money come from. was it legitimate or perhaps did it fall from the hands of criminals, still under investigation. as for tracey, he's worked 36 years for septa. he manages the route 100 depo out here at sixth street. so he says over the course of his career he's found so many things that people have left behind, wallets and other items. he and the other employees always returning them for tracey honesty is really a way of life. reporting live from the upper darby police station, walt hunter, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> there are good people out there, walt, thank you. we are definitely getting taste of spring today with temperatures getting close to record territory. we want to head outside to the skydeck, justin, i know you are quite happy to be out there. going to hit what 70 today? >> already at 07 degrees here for philadelphia, you know, i need a beach chair out here. it is just down right nice. not much of a winds to deal with as well. we have filtered sunshine, not even full sun, and already at 70 degrees. just goes to show how strong the early march sun can be. also, this nice push of warmer air that's coming in.

no matter where you're cross the region you are enjoying milder temperatures. in the mountains, 58 degrees, 07 at the airport in philadelphia, even just off the shore points, inland, at 69 degrees in south jersey. compared to yesterday, at this time, 13 to 20 degrees warmer, so that's our trend. warmer temperatures, 67 already up in allentown, 69 in reading, same deal in wilmington and in dover, delaware, the suburbs, also enjoying nice temperatures, palmyra, new jersey already at 72 degrees. we do have some patches of clouds rolling on through, not going to produce any rain, so overall call it partly sunny the rest of the afternoon, warm air has arrived, in place, going to be sticking around for several days. so, certainly, enjoy t so afternoon temperatures, making a run at the lower 70s, it hasn't been that long since we did reach 70 agree temperatures, you just have to go back to actually christmas eve where we had high of 71. we will talk about how long this stretch lasts, and some record temperatures on the way, as well, those de nails just a few more minutes, erika, back to you.

>> can't wait to hear, thank you. incredible video from the san francisco bay area. a commuter train derails sending its lead car into a rain swollen creek. nine people were hurt and authorities say it was just a miracle that no one was killed. correspondent john black stone explains what caused that disaster. >> train crews are working to clear the tracks, the morning after the corridor express also known as the ace train, derailed in northern california. >> we hope to get these rail lines cleared out by the end of the day. >> 214 people were on board as the train twisted through niles canyon during a heavy rainstorm. officials say a mud slide may have caused a tree to fall on to the tracks. >> it was jolting. i mean, it was a fairly wild ride. >> we felt couple of sharp jerks. then we just suddenly slowed down. >> one of the ace train cars slid through the mud into al meade a creek, water rushing around it, the car came to rest on it side. hanna mackenzie was in the adjoining car t derailed, but remained upright.

walking, doing some shopping, enjoying some nice restaurants maybe for lunch, already, temperatures in the upper 60s, should reach the low 70s this afternoon across the lehigh valley. so main headlines reaching the first 70 degrees day of the year. that's always exciting. again you have to go back to just christmas eve, that was the last time we hit the 70s. hasn't been long. spoiled over the winter. record warmth coming at us. next chance for some rain showers in our forecast. look at that, already 70 at the airport, close to 70 in reading, even interior south jersey approaching the 707 degrees mark. we have the warmth still well to the west. chicago, st. louis, des moines, mid upper 60s to near 70. that continues to head eastward, pretty much east of the mississippi next few days we are talking about some real warmth developing. some clouds rolling on in though. these are mid to high level clouds. it is actually just sign of the warmer air up in the atmosphere. mild air mass just sets up shop over the mid-atlantic, and just keeps pomming in that warmer air, as the jet stream moves to the north, so highs

20 to 25 degrees above average, that's equal to late may temperatures. we should be right around 50 this time of year. not even close to that. forecast high tomorrow, 75 degrees, that would break the record of 73, setback in 2,000 as of now, forecast for thursday, 76. that would tie a record. so back in 2006, so again we could easily go two days in a row here with potentially setting records, and we're quiet though. no threat of any storms. high pressure, what you want to see if you like warm temperatures. typical for a mid summer weather pattern, but we're not dealing with the humidity. that's good news, a lot of sunshine for wednesday, and into thursday, as long as that area of high pressure is there, we're protected, all of the storminess stays well to the north and west. eventually later friday into saturday we will see our cool front come our way knocking temps down little bit bringing rain chances. >> this afternoon well into the 70s away from the water, mild tonight, 50's, tomorrow, mid 70s, even up into the lehigh valley, the exception right along the shore line. and this pattern looks like it will hold through at least the

middle part of march, the jet stream stays to the north as long as it is here the colder air remains in canada. so we may have cooler days from time to time. overall it will be a warm pattern the next several weeks. partly sun think afternoon, 72 degrees for the high temperature, tonight, mostly clear, mild, at 53, here is the extended forecast, again, little warmer tomorrow, mid 70s, sale deal thursday, still 70 friday, we cool it down for the weekend but upper 50's, not bad, don't forget to turn the clocks ahead one hour saturday night. some showers will arrive sunday. so looks like sunday is the wettest day, even into next week, still 60s. >> still nice line up for march. >> exactly. >> justin i know our healthy ether, bag of broccoli for your snack, healthy snack. but how do you know what you are eating really is healthy? it could be an unhealthy food in disguise. correspondent mary maloney explains. >> despite best intentions to eat healthy we sometimes fall short when it comes to making the right selections. but how do you know what to avoid? for starters, skip the frozen
