dental problem that god hooked up. >> reporter: this time officers using drug narcan revived the victim but starting right new there is a new program based in the lobby of the upper darby police station that is aimed at saving many more lives. >> this program is opened to people who voluntarily walk through the front door of the police station. make a phone call and say you know what, i need help. >> reporter: reversing the role of confining people the program called change is possible, will open up the station's doors. volunteers from the house, shepherding addict toss treatment centers, cutting through medical and insurance red tape. >> i don't want to make it that it is some miracles happening here, it is a start, where they can start. >> reporter: these doors will be opened from 9:00 to 5:00 monday to friday, all who seek help here will be upper darby resident at least 18 years old and not have any opened criminal cases. on the september bus that day upper darby officers, saved

one life, and it is hoped, that in this lobby, now a safe haven, many others will also be saved. >> there is only one testing i'm looking for, i want to be standing here where i can save my first life. i want that person standing right here. >> at upper darby police headquarters, walt hunter, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> switching gears, talking weather what a difference a week makes from 30's to 40's to record highs. the meteorologist kate bilo is in the weather center. how high did temperatures go. the it felt hot out there. >> it did feel hot out there, nicole and temperatures got to about 32 degrees above average for this time of the year. eighty-two was our high temperature today in philadelphia, that broke the record by a full 9 degrees. the it is also earliest 82 or higher temperature on record in philadelphia. previously march 12th of 1990 we will hit 83 but this march 9th at 82 earliest it has ever been 82 in philadelphia since record were kept and that dates back to the 1800's.

so warmest day we have had since september 30th of last year, these temperatures more reminiscent of june, august, september then they are of early march. and record were broken all over the place today. the mount pocono hit 73 degrees. that is a new record. earliest 73 degrees in mount pocono. previous was march 13th. allentown got to 80. new railroaded there. at atlantic city tied previous record of 78. cooler closer to the the coast in pamona inland thanks to that marine influence from the cooler ocean water. new record in wilmington. that new record in philadelphia and new record in reading. 80 degrees today. full 30 degrees above where it should be. temperatures still in the 70's in philadelphia. sixty-seven in millville. cooler at the coast, but another record breaker for tomorrow. how long can this last. i will tell you coming up with the full forecast. nicole. >> we have some breaking news, chopper three over a forest fire in marlton, burlington county. we're told fire crews have been battling flames in the

wood off cardinal court since 1:30 this afternoon. there are no injuries reported but 50 acres burn. officials say the fire is about 75 percent contain. search continues for shooting suspect, ukee accused of opening fire right in front of the under cover philadelphia police officers. >> that officer was hurt responding to that scene. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos joins with us more on how it all unfolded, greg. >> reporter: that is right, there ukee. it all began around 1:40 this afternoon about half mile from where we are standing at juniata park. you you can see behind me suspects white suv. suspect did sit here in this alley way before somehow getting a way. this white suv the center of the shooting investigation wednesday afternoon. police say plainclothes narcotics officers witnessed a suspect shoot someone inside etan suv. on the 1600 block of east hunting park avenue.

investigators say that suspect escaped in this white suv. ditching it here near frankford avenue and val let a street a a half mile from the original shooting. as responding officers rush to the scene, one from the 15th district heading to this call involved in an accident. that officer was transported to torresdale hospital in stable condition, and is expect to be released. meanwhile, officers spent the afternoon going door to door in this juniata neighborhood hoping to speak to witnesses while collecting evidence from the white suv and searching for the suspect. ukee, victim in all this we're told was shot in the under arm, that person rushed to frankford south hospital. right now that person's condition is unknown. we are live from juniata park i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". detectives in philadelphia are investigating six homicide in philadelphia since yesterday. five five-year old ronald stanley is under arrest in the triple stabbing that killed

one person yesterday afternoon in west philadelphia. the violence unfolded at 56th and baltimore. in addition to the stabbing there were five shootings in philadelphia last night, latest around 10:00 o'clock in east falls. police found a man with several gunshot wound on the 3100 block of abbottsford avenue, victim in the 20's and 30's we're told but has not been identified. police commissioner richard ross talk about the violence. >> there is a a whole host of issues not the least of which, the plethora of guns that we see on our streets and more importantly the manner in which we resolve all these conflicts is so problematic. >> one of the last night's shootings in philadelphia left younger brother of the nba star dead. darius pinckney on the lefties seen with his brother dion wait hours played for oklahoma city thunder. pinckney was found dead in the 2300 block of morris street around 8:00 o'clock last night. the his dirt bike was found a short distance away.

thunder released a statement about the the death, quote we are sad toned hear the news of the passing of dion's brother and he has our full support. dion and his family are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. well, police have made suspect in the shooting of the man inside a north philadelphia restaurant. police say ronald rand, shot victim inside a church's chick men north philadelphia on sunday. police say he was involve in the verbal altercation before that shooting. victim survived, anyone with any information on his whereabouts should call philadelphia police. there is a big rally outside uptown theater in north philadelphia today, dozens demanded a second chance at life. reporter cherri gregg of our sister station kyw news radio has more on why the ex-offender movement is growing. >> i'm affect by this each and every day, no matter which way i turn. >> reporter: wayne jacobs is one of the dozens of ex-offenders who attended the wheel of chance rally, group held signs, sang songs.

>> ♪ >> reporter: and told stories, the many obstacles to jobs, housing and even education that come with a criminal record. >> we're a recovering addict or that you have a background, even if it is a misdemeanor they don't want to hire you. >> reporter: lack of jobs bubbled to the surface two summers a ago when city was forced to shut down a second chance job fare where more than 5,000 showed up, looking for work. >> when you have a as many people formally convicted individual in our community if these folks don't vote we really have created a entire second chance of citizens. >> reporter: attorney shariff street organized today's rally, the son of the former mayor john street is running for the pennsylvania senate the from a district with a large population of ex-offenders. he joined other politicians, hoping to mobilize support for more second chance legislation. >> we have to get people energized and we cannot allow people to feel defeated just because of the problems they have had in the past.

>> reporter: governor tom wolf sign act five into law last month expanding, rights. >> we have values. >> reporter: these voters are hoping if they helped to the polls, they will get more laws to give them a real chance to suck seed. cherri gregg, for kyw news radio for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". funeral services are set for a new jersey state trooper who was hit and killed by a car in the line of duty. a viewing for 31 year-old sean cullen will be held sunday from two to 7:00 and monday morning from 8:00 to 11:30 at saint game me owe church. it will happen at noon followed by intern. at lake right memorial park. trooper cullen was struck while managing the scene of the accident on i295 in deptford monday night. he later died at cooper medical center surrounded by family. cullen was a trooper for almost two years, so far, no charges have been filed against the driver who hit him. well, a small plane goes

down in montgomery county and pilot was able to walk away with only minor injuries. >> the plane crashed into a field this afternoon near ridge pike and penn road in limerick. authorities say pilot was taken to an area hospital to get check out. it is unclear if the plane encountered some type of trouble while trying to take off orland, at a nearby airport. also in limerick this morning one person was hurt in a roll over crash that brought down an electrical pole. chopper three over the scene on the 3,000 block of sanatoga road. crash cut power to one peco customer. utility crews replaced the pole and restored that outage. septa is encouraging commute tours make safe choices while using public transportation. "eyewitness news" at fernrock transportation sent they are morning. septa representatives reminding rail users about the danger of the distracted commuting especially while reading, texting and listening to music. they encouraged them to use dedicated overpasses and to pay attention while walking on train platforms. we are counting down to

new at 6:00 a legal showdown native american tribe says new jersey officials are unfairly targeting them. >> "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan has more on why the garden state no longer recognizes the tribe. >> they cannot take our heart out but they can take our economic is a way. >> reporter: lenape indians are in a fight for survival and today they took another blow. after years of access to federal benefits reserved for native americans some revoked and others are in jeopardy because state of new jersey say they don't officially recognize any american-indian tribes. >> the state did recognize the tribe. state is acting like it didn't recognize the tribe. >> reporter: tribe says in 1992 they received official state recognition through a joint resolution by the legislature. last july we met with the chief mark gould when the lenape tribal nation filed suit against the state for allegedly revoking their

official recognition. he showed us expensive craft that are worthless since they can in longer be labeled native made and members of the tribe could lose scholarships and money to raise diabetes. >> it has been extremely painful. >> reporter: while not explaining why the state won't recognize tribes, attorney general's office says in a dismissal briefing the state does not have have any procedures, standards or requirements for the recognition or continued recognition of the american-indian tribes. the lenape believe at the heart of the matter is fear they want to build a casino something their by laws forbid. >> it is clear that the the state's motivation is one that is race based, stereotyping the tribe and punishing the tribe for who they are independent of their complete lack of desire to compete with the state's monopoly on gaming. >> reporter: today judge granted the motion to dismiss the lawsuit. >> just a slap in the face but we have been slapped so many times by the state over last several centuries that our skinnies toughened. >> reporter: they may have

one hour, and of course it is the kind of jump april head where we say we will lose an hour of sleep but you know what it will make sunset in the 7:00 o'clock hour on sunday. that may be worth getting up that hour. your live neighborhood network camera in kutztown is looking beautiful as well with just a few clouds in the sky, still 71 degrees outside right now. feeling fantastic. this could be a miserable time of the year. we know that from last march, cold, we had 12 inches of snow last march. we need to be extra thankful getting us through what could be a very chilly, very damp, glummy, time of the year. storm scan three right now is clear. we're in the warm bubble with a warm front draped to the north. cold front well off to the west. warm sector of the system that is really not moving every where quickly and that is keeping some problems down in the deep south and portions of the mississippi valley. we have heavy rain streaming in once again, we saw yesterday, we turn it back on today, constant moisture flow there and eventually this pattern will shift and that

wet weather will creep in our area over weekend. it is not as intense as it has been off to the south. temperatures right now 73 in philadelphia. sixty-six in millville. it is cooler along the coast. that is thanks to the the 44-degree ocean water, breeze from the south means it is only 59 in stone harbor. fifty-four in ocean city. you do need sweat shirt down the shore. few miles inland and much warmer. we have gone from winter to summer in the past five days. saturday's high was only 42 degrees. sun take 47. today, 82. so 40 degrees increase in the past five days and it will stay warm throughout the next couple of days as well. another record should be broken tomorrow, we will hit 80. record is 76. that was setback in 2006. weak cold front comes through tomorrow night, friday just a few degrees cooler but still well above average. show you these showers, you can see some sun tomorrow, showers are very minimal and mainly coming through overnight and clearing by morning. so overnight tonight patchy cloud, warm, 58 degrees. tomorrow another record day

with that shower possible at night. 80 degrees, your high for thursday. very similar to today. friday slightly cooler but if we didn't have these 80's. 67 degrees would have been awesome in the forecast. friday is still gorgeous. the saturday, sun giving way to cloud, maybe a couple showers around this weekend. it is not a wash out, monies wetest day of the forecast but then back to 07 by next wednesday. >> slowly but surely. >> yes. >> thanks, kate. all right, don talking about the bird. they are busy. it is off season but they are busy. >> number of moves is shocking they are trying to turn over this roster quickly post chip kelly, by the way. the season begins in september but team building starts right now. nfl new year opened up at the 4:00 p.m. when free agency kick off. that is when eagles started replenishing their roster. would be of the first moves they have made signing 25 year-old safety rodney mccloud, five-year deal worth 37 million. mcincluded is durable starting 48 straight games for st. louis rams. >> enough of this small offensive line business, eagles going anti chip kelly route by signing texans guard brandon brooks, 6-foot five, 335-pound. big man. brooks gets 40 million over five years. the guard position has been a problem forbidder especially back last season. one day into free agency and they signed one of the better lineman on the mark.

the school district of philadelphia, is showing off its new fleet of school buses. the district ordered 50 new buses to accommodate all students needs. the buses are also air conditioned, and, seat belts, and how much high tech features, like backup cameras.
