a shock being tragedy in philadelphia's rittenhouse square overnight. a man is stabbed to death outside a luxury apartment building. the we are live with more on what police are saying about this brutal crime. police now investigating a a shoot-out that left a police captain injured. we will have more on the officer's condition, and the moments, that led up to the gunfire that has also left a man dead, and another injured. and a cloudy start, when we wait for some showers and keep that umbrella a haines. how long this rainy stretch of weather will last coming up. it is sunday march 13th, good morning i'm rahel solomon. meteorologist justin drabick is outside on the sky deck. the justin, still dry, sunny but some rain is coming. >> we do have some rain coming, a slow moving system so this rain will linger in the workweek. this is is a dreary forecast but we are dry, right now,

parade will be in good shape, the exception may be some area get a sprinkle this morning. the especially south and west of the city. check it the out on storm scan three we are scanning skies here and just light rain showers, trying to show up around southern delaware and central delaware and kent county a sprinkle until chester county. this stuff is light you wouldn't need wiper blade out driving. steadier shower arrive late this afternoon after three or 4:00 and best chance for the rain coming in the forecast for the start of the workweek on monday, we will time that out in a little bit but this morning it the is kind of comfortable. we have cloudy skies but milder that cloud cover holding in the warmth, we are at seven to 18 degrees warmer compared to this time yesterday. temperatures holding in the upper 40's to around 50 degrees this hour so that is what we can expect this morning. we average 52 for a high this time of the year. we are a degree above that only at 8:00 in the morning. we are on our way to 60 degrees. the not a bad afternoon.

better chance for showers later on during the day into tonight, so at least first half of the day stays dry for most of the region. forecast high up around 60 degrees around philadelphia, and then good mild temperature for the shore and poconos with high in the mid 50's. cool though tomorrow with steadier rain moving in. i will let you know when heavier rain arrives ape which commute will be impacted most when i show you full forecast in a few minutes. >> we will check with you then, thank you. >> this morning a neighborhood is in shock, a man is stabbed in rittenhouse square. kyw news radio reporter cherri gregg is live at the scene where police are piecing together just what happen. cherri, you have been following this all a morning. what can you you tell us. >> reporter: good morning, rahel, philadelphia police say a a 24 year-old man was stabbed right there outside of 1830 luxury high rise condominium right here in rittenhouse square. homicide detectives are still inside right new trying to

piece together clues as to what exactly happened. right now know so far is the victim was with a few friend celebrating st. patrick's day weekend and somehow got in an argument here with another man who slashed him in the chest with a knife. the suspect fled south on 19th street and then east on manning. the victim was rush to hahnemann hospital where he was pronounced dead and 3:30 this morning. homicide detectives and crime scene unit just wrapped up here after collecting items on the scene including the coat, a good samaritan used to try to save victim. those items, police say and other evidence the are gone but shock remains here, here is captain nick brown. >> this is relatively, something that does in the happen in this type of the area, relatively safe area, rittenhouse square. we are looking at video footage. we are discovering many cameras in the area. that is the good thing we have

a lot of video footage of what happened in the area. >> reporter: back out here live philadelphia police are looking at that footage as we speak but at this point they only have a vague description of the suspect. now folks in the neighborhood are just waking up, a a lot of people are here, walking their dogs out here in rittenhouse square, all expressed shock about what happened today. the family of the victim was also here, visibly shaken as police continue to look for the killer. live in rittenhouse square, cherri gregg for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> cherri, thank you. new this morning a teenage girl has been killed and police say that she was not the target. just in the wrong place at the wrong time. the it happened on the 400 block of southford street in west philadelphia around 11:30 last night. authorities say the 18 year-old girl was sitting on her steps when she was hit the by at least one bullet. so far there are in suspects in custody. this morning a chester police officer is in the

hospital after he was shot, during some sort of a pursuit. twenty-five year veteran captain alan davis is in stable condition, with a gunshot wound to his arm. the shoot-out left one person dead and another in the hospital, and now an investigation is underway as "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff tells us community members are demanding answers. >> reporter: it was report of the vehicle matching description, of a stolen car, that still became a deadly exchange. >> when i got in the carry seen that they pulled over the silver whatever that car was with tinted windows. >> reporter: she had just stopped on parker street and union around 4:00 in the afternoon and saw officers begin to approach a car. >> they were telling the people in the car to surrounder with their hand up and stuff. >> reporter: a according to police three occupants remained inside but were uncooperative. >> it the is our understanding that someone from the car began shooting at the police, police return fire and we now have a situation where we have a policeman in the hospital

shot, we have a deceased party from the car and we have a injured party from the car also at the hospital. >> reporter: family of the occupants from the cara long with police gathered at crozer medical center. the officer injured captain alan davis, he is a 25 year veteran of the chester police force. >> everybody came out of the house, snapping on the cops trying to figure out why they are not telling us anything. >> reporter: as the evening continuing tensions grew. police had to become physically involved telling "eyewitness news" that they had bottles and rocks thrown at them. >> it is unfortunate on both ends. there is nothing good about this. unfortunately we had a situation where someone's actions caused, a terrible incident. >> reporter: there was one other person inside that vehicle and they were taken in police custody uninjury. police are now investigating whether or not that vehicle they have pulled over was, in

fact, stolen. the reporting from chester crozer medical center alexandria hoff for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a security scare at philadelphia international airport, after a pilot leaves his pants on inside of the -- owe handgun inside a bathroom. he went to retrieve the bag and it was gone. airport delayed all flights while authorities searched for the gun. investigators later determined that airport janitor stole the bag. >> they got the gun, that is great. but, you know, we have to take care every day. i travel all over the world. you have to be on it. if you see something, say something. >> incident caused 16 flights to be delayed for an hour, the airport janitor is charged with theft and other charges. in campaign 2016, donald trump's contentious, violent will rallies are making headlines this weekend. now republican candidates are questioning whether they will support him as a nominee. cbs news correspondent, brooks silverbraga has the latest.

in east greenwich township. the fire fighter was taking to the health center and is expect to be okay. the three people inside this home were not hurt. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. one person is injured when a car crashed into a 7-eleven on broad and diamond street in north philadelphia. it happened at about 10:00 o'clock last night, now that car hit the store and then backed out of the building causing on damage to the car and the front of the the store. no word if the injured person was a customer or an employee, but their injuries, however were in the considered life threatening. we see it every year, just as soon as it warms up those atv's come out, but philadelphia police say it is hard to catch those drivers and our cameras actually caught them out, endangering lives. >> reporter: it is a sight many philadelphians are all too familiar work atv's and dirt bikes on city streets. >> they also go in and out of the traffic, going up on

sidewalks. >> reporter: philadelphia police say it is a city wide issue and in fact chopper three caught a police helicopter monday night appearing to follow two people through the city, starting first at what looks like somerdale. >> it is in the permitted on the streets. again, whipping in and out of traffic is something that can only cause one thing, either an accident or someone to become severely injured record record righting atv's on philadelphia streets is illegal but catching these riders is difficult because officers are prohibited from chasing a after them. >> if we chase them and people say you chase them and create an accident and you kill someone, you know, innocent person is out there traveling, you know, then you you are wrong. if you don't chase them, and they go in and out of traffic and wreak havoc across the city, then you are considered not the to do your job. >> reporter: popular philadelphia dirt biker who goes by the name dirt bike mike, told me they need legal places to ride in the city and they are not looking to hurt anyone. while monday's incident did in

nice flow off water, knocks temperatures back down to the 50's, so period of rain at times. it is not raining, all the time throughout this entire event and then tuesday afternoon storm moves off shore and we will start to dry out. how much rain are we talking about? generally a half inch for a lot of locations, maybe some spots getting close to an inch, especially areas of south jersey near the shore, into delaware, we could see heavier showers, moving through there especially tomorrow morning. and then temperatures, today, enjoy it, right around 60 degrees for most locations and then that cooler flow develops off the ocean tomorrow, keep in mind ocean water temperatures right around 40 so once you get that wind direction off the water, temperatures take a hit so 40's to about 50, 53 degrees at best for the highs on monday, and then that is actually average for this time of the year. showers late today. sixty for the high. temperatures in the 40's tonight. off and on showers. tomorrow watch out for rain at times, steady yes, sir during the morning, tuesday backup to 63. a few peaks of sun possible by the afternoon.

because we have a st. patrick's day parade on the ben franklin parkway which isn't far from this exit and ben franklin parkway is shut down between spring garden street and art museum circle. pennsylvania convention center and arch street last day for the the philadelphia a flower show and arch a street is shut down at 12th street, that is the latest from the cbs-3 traffic center i'm ann evans now rahel, back to you. well, philadelphia region is apparently a hot spot for asbestos and a according to to a new report, our area has some of the highest death rates from asbestos in the country. health reporter stephanie stahl got an early report that some are calling alarming. >> reporter: simple sign, with a scary message, asbestos waste disposal site, breathing as west toss dust is hazardous. it is in the heart of the ambler and blamed for hundreds of deaths. >> he was 53 when he died. our children were eight and zero. >> reporter: marilyn's husband joe grew up in ambler and played on what were called white mountains piles of

homicide investigators are still on the scene, and they are speaking to doorman and other folks trying to find clues that could lead them to that killer. let me tell you what we necessity thus far the 24 year-old victim was with friend and got in an argument with the suspect who slashed victim in the chest area. he was rushed to hahnemann hospital where he was pronounced dead. homicide investigators a arriving on the scene and they interviewed multiple witnesses and gathered victim's clothing as well as the coat police say a good samaritan used to try to help the victim. homicide captain nicholas brown has more details on what happened. >> witnesses account, the plaintiff was slashed across the chest area, and then fled the a area, going southbound on 19th street and then eastbound on manning street. we do have some video footage

police were pursuing a vehicle and authorities say someone in the car began, shooting at police. police returned fire killing one person and injuring another. captain david was rushed to crozer. someone's actions caused a terrible incident. >> everybody came out of their house, slapping on the cops trying to figure out why they are not telling us anything. they had bottle and rocks thrown at them, and they are saying whether the vehicle they were pursuing was inn in fact, stolen. well known basketball player was involve in the car crash, that led to the death of the the state trooper, last week. dujuan wagner was a camden

will turn them out and think they can survive outside. they are far from predecessors. they have no way to survive. we ask that people call us, and bring them to us instead, instead offsetting them free. >> a lot of differences. >> they are not equipped for handling outside at all. predators are looking for this kind of a guy. >> wow. >> we encourage people not to put them outside. >> if you are still thinking a bunny is right for you or your family what are your living conditions, how do you prepare your home to make it right. >> so we want people to have them inside like a dog would be, a lot of times if you have a cage in the corner, you can let them play and hang out with you, they are good like that, but you have to make sure that you bunny proof everything, all of the wires, your phone chargers, they will chew through. we will try to keep everything up high, make sure nothing to dig or destroy, and otherwise, they are good like that. they can live in their little cage, come out, go to the

poddy box and go in and play at night. they are easy to take care of that way. >> turf say this one, is myrtle. >> yes. >> so soft, i cannot even believe it. it is like slippers. >> she's a really soft, velvety fur. most bunnies have soft fur but they take the cake for most soft fur. >> okay. >> so, if you are home, sometimes you let the dog out, the back door, can you to that with the bunny, can you get them outside. >> nope, they are just so not equipped for being outside we don't let them outside at all. they pick up from the grass. predators come down and get them. we don't let them outside at all. >> do you see more bunnies around easter and is there also a greater number of bunnies being returned after easter. >> people buy them at the pet store, bring them home and they get tired and realize how much work is involve. they bring them back to us. a lot of times they will have a pair and babies.
