a look at the brackets and surprise at the snubseses. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we begin with breaking new news. multiple injuries are reported after an amtrak train derailed in kansas. am track train 4, the southwest chief was en route from los angeles to chicago when can jumped the tracks about 25 miles west of dodge city, kansas, earlier this morning. amtrak says there were 128 passengers and 14 crew members on board. it's unclear just how many cars derailed, but five cars have rolled on to their side. the injured are being taken to local hospitals. no word on the severity of their injuries. well, tomorrow may well be the most decisive day of this year's presidential campaign, particularly for republicans. five key states hold primaries. but over the weekend, it was the violence that donald trump's rallies that provoked

accusation. trump denies he has anything to do with the trouble. the biggest prize tomorrow is delegate-rich florida. don champion is there in miami. don, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the republican candidates are fighting for the 99 delegates up for grabs here in florida. many of them spent the weekend holding rallies here on the democratic side, ohio is proving to be the state to watch tomorrow. bernie sanders and hillary clinton took questions on a range of issues from ohio voters during a town hall sunday night. but violence at recent donald trump rallies took center stage and both candidates took aim at the republican front-runner. >> he has lit the fire and then he throws his hands up and claims that he shouldn't be held responsible, and he should be held responsible. >> i would hope that mr. trump tones it down big-time and tells his supporters that violence is not acceptable.

>> reporter: sanders holds a narrow lead over clinton in ohio but trails her in crucial primaries in florida and illinois. as a peaceful rally in boca raton, florida, sunday, trump commented on the weekend events. >> all over the world, they are talking about what took place and they are talking about us, and they are talking about how well we handled it. >> reporter: trump still leads his republican rivals here in florida where the contest is winner take all. running third in polls, marco rubio hopes his home state delivers him a much-needed victory. >> we will not allow the republican party involved with someone who will get crushed in november. >> reporter: john kasich is vying for a win in ohio where the polls show he could beat trump. >> i believe after tuesday we will continue to roll. >> reporter: trump is about a third of the way to the nomination about ted cruz close behind. now, it is important to note that early voting has been going on here in florida for a little

more than a week. rubio is banking on that, hoping that he is faring well in that vote with so much at stake for him. he has four events planned across the state today. trump will be holding a rally in tampa. >> don champion in miami, thank you, don. in a series of appearances over the weekend, trump defended his supporters and his campaign, saying we want peace. but it was anything but a peaceful weekend for trump's com campaign. a man jumped over the barricade and rushed his stage. in kansas city, police had to use pepper spray. last week a man was charged after punching an anti-trump protester at a rally. trump said he may pay for his legal bills. >> this man became very angry and you know what? again, i don't condone violence but the kid shouldn't have the finger up in the air either if

that is what he did. so i'll take a look at the tape and i'll let you know. >> trump said the man got carried away and it's very unfortunate. we will have more on the escalating tension surrounding the trump campaign coming up on "cbs this morning." wild scene in los angeles, where a police car was stolen. the suspect led cops on a chase late last night, eventually a police suv rammed the stolen cop car. the suspect was killed. a maryland police officer was also killed when a beggunma opened fire what police describe as an unprovoked attack. the gunman began shooting. once the first shots were fired, other officers fired back. >> those officers did not shrink. they bravely advanced and engaged this individually who was not just threatening the police officers and the police facility he was opening fire on, but numerous members of the

community in the area. >> the suspect was wounded. another man who is believed to have been with the shooter, fled the scene, but was later arrested. this morning, the united states is condemning a deadly car bombing attack in turkey. at least 37 people were killed and more than 120 others were wounded in the turkish capital ankara. the last such attack in three weeks. johnathan vigliotti reports. >> reporter: the fiery remains of blown-out vehicles. it became a make-shift triage center for first responders. security video captured the very moment a car packed with explosives detonated near a busy bus stop in turkey's capital. embers and debris rained down on the street as survivors ran for cover. this man was injured in the blast. [ speaking in foreign language ] >> reporter: he said the bus slowed down a bit, then boom!

it exploded. something red appeared in the bus. fire. it killed two or three people. city officials say the car bomb targeted the heavily traffic square, home to a park and several government ministries. it's the third bombing in the city since last fall. turkey has struggled with kurdish rebels, threats from the islamic state, and the growing migrant crisis. the motive for today's explosion is unclear but comes two days after the united states embassy warned its citizens of a potential terrorist plot. following the attack, turkish authorities ordered a ban on broadcasting or publishing images of the blast. johnathan vigliotti, cbs news, london. al qaeda off-shoot is claiming responsibility for a deadly attack at a beach resort in the african nation of ivory coast. at least six armed men targeted hotels popular with tourists.

16 people were killed, including 14 civilians. four of the victims were europeans. witnesses say they heard the gunman speaking arabic. the gunmen were killed by security forces. there is wet and potentially dangerous weather in parts of the country from the west coast to the east coast this morning. a series of storms is pounding the west with strong winds and heavy rain. in the south, there is widespread flooding that has damaged thousands of homes. late last night, the wet weather made for hazardous travel. in north central north carolina, there were multiple crashes on an interstate. in louisiana, nearly 5,000 homes were damaged by floodwaters. at least four deaths are reported there. on the west coast the wind and the rain is the trouble. one person killed in seattle when a tree was blown on to his car. there is widespread damage and downed trees, also mudslides. wind gusts reached 60 miles per hour. the weather service says the winds spiraled like a hurricane. some 250,000 customers were

here's a look at today's forecast in some cities around the country. an ohio police officer wants to show his gratitude to an 11-year-old girl named allison. after his canine partner was killed in a shoot-out two months ago, the girl sent her allowance to help pay for a bulletproof ve vest. the officer lost her contact information but other officers helped him locate her. on the cbs moneycatch a shocking shadow at a kellogg's plant. hena daniels is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. an internal investigation is under way at kellogg's after a video surfaced that appeared to show a man urinating on products

on an assembly line. kellogg's said it is shocked and deep reply disappointed. the video was taken in memphis in 2014. rice krispies and rice krispies cakes are affected and all past their expiration dates at this point. stock markets in asia extended last week. japan's nikkei added 1.5%. a jump in crude oil prices sent stocks on wall street higher on friday tapping a four-week winning streak. the dow finished 202 points higher last week and 21 points up for the s&p 500 and nasdaq up 30 points. president obama spoke on friday in texas. mr. obama says he is, quote, way

championship this weekend with an 81-71 win over west virginia. kansas is making its 27th consecutive trip to the tournament, tying unc's record run from 1975 to 2001. cal state-bakersfield is hoping to bandage the bell of the ball. they punched their ticket on sunday with a dramatic win over the new mexico state aggies in the western athletic conference championship. guard dietrich basile knocked down a three-pointer with 2.0 seconds on the clock and sending his team dancing for the first time in school history. also dancing for the first time is the sony brook sea wolves. a win over vermont in the american east championship. the 68 teams in the tournaments were focused on selection sunday to find out their seeds but some players and coaches actually found out their matchups on their phones before they were officially announced, that is because the bracket was leaked on twitter. the ncaa is investigating just

genetically modify beagles to make them more muscular but as seth doane reports, they have been accused of animal cruelty. >> reporter: the 2,000 beagles at this pound in southern china. scientists led by sway at the institute of biomedical institute of health claim they are the first to alter the successful genetic makeup of dogs. they doubled the muscle mass of meese beagles through the process of gene editing. we knocked out a gene which would ordinarily stop muscles from growing so these dogs became much more muscular, li told us. scientists say the idea here is not to create designer pets, but rather to mimic diseases like parkinson's in these dogs and then treat them in an effort to find a cure. ultimately, the idea is to create a safe, effective drug. beagles are often used in
