"eyewitness news" reporter greg argos is live in west philadelphia where that vigil is about to get underway tonight, greg? >> reporter: ukee and jessica, good evening. you can see some family and friend they have just begun to gather here in west philadelphia on the very stoop where 18 year-old nijay seedily was just minding her own business but she was shot, and killed, saturday night, by a stray bullet. police tape still marks three bullet holes from a gunfight, 18 year-old nijay was not a part of but one which killed her. >> we were all with each other that same day. we were laughing and having fun. >> reporter: ni jay's says they were relaxing down the street when bullets down knee salford and callowhill started flying. the 18 year-old who lives here in west philadelphia was shot in her chest around 11:30 saturday night. she died 35 minutes later. >> thinks our hang out spot. we always dance, listen to music, we have fun.

we do fun things here. thinks where everybody be it. to necessity somebody happened like this she wasn't even near where everybody was, she was on perfect porch then that happened. the it is just sad. >> reporter: back here live, you can see just this community, really coming together for this senseless killing a lot of folks very upset over, what happened here, saturday night. police have not made any arrestness this case, friend, of course, wanted whoever is responsible behind bars, as quickly as possible. we're live here in west philadelphia a i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you for that. we are following breaking news in the shooting death of a maryland police officer. the authorities say two of the alleged gunman's brothers recorded the exchange of the gunfire that killed boothwyn native j ac ai colson. investigators revealed that officer colson may have been killed by friendly fire. >> we believe that the fired round that led to the detective colson's death was fired by one of his fellow

prince georges county police officers reacting to this. >> police called yesterday's deadly shooting an unprovoke attack. the gun man was wounded and expected to survive. we now know identity of the 24 year-old man stabbed to death near rittenhouse square. colin mcgovern of the churchville, bucks county had just gotten out of the cab early sunday morning, and was with friend, some would be in his group said something, about a hat, worn by 40 year-old steven simminger, as their paths crossed. an altercation erupted. >> he turns around, abruptly, he walks back to the four have of them, the suspect, and two males are in each other faces. the fists start swinging. they go to the ground. at that point suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed him several times. >> simminger was taken in custody after showing up hours after the stabbing at veterans administration hospital with a cut to his hand. we're also told he requested a mental evaluation.

police are looking for this man in connection with the frightening home invasion robbery on the main line. tredyffrin township police say that this man broke in the home on crest line road on saturday and bound the home owner with duct tape then threaten the victim with a stun gun demanding the pin to her bank card. surveillance cameras captured this image of the mask man using the card at atm. home own are called police after breaking free. if you have any information, please contact the police. caught on camera a stole men west philadelphia with a baby boy strapped in the back seat. the four month-old was later found unharmed in germantown but the suspect is still on the run tonight. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter spoke with the child's father about the quick action that is helped lead to the baby's rescue, walt. >> reporter: well, it wasn't just police here in southwest division that were scrambling at 7:30 to find that van with the baby in it, it was the baby's father who work very

hard in those terrifying moments as he told me, to help find and ultimately, safely have his little boy returned to him. >> i come out of the store and i'm like my life is just stopped, everything just stopped and just dropped at bottom of my feet. >> reporter: kareem ward described the terrible moment he learned that a thief had just stolen his minivan from outside a west philadelphia corner store where he was buying a bottle of water for his baby. inside of the minivan, is four month-old, son, cameron. >> calmy walk up to the door, opens up, gets in and off the car goes. >> reporter: as police instantly launched a huge search for the thief, seen here, moments before the abduction, cameron's dad remembered that he left his phone in the van, and soon he was texting with the abductor. >> when i texted his phone, from the store owner's phone he told me where my son was at.

>> reporter: the thief apparently not realizing the infant was in the minivan, text that had he was leaving the baby on a germantown street where 15 minutes later, in the rain, police found cameron, wet, but unhurt. >> there is a god out there. there is a god up there and we are praying as a family. >> reporter: short time later a reunion between cameron, his mom, and his dad. >> good thing i got my son back. he is smiling, right now and i will go play with him too. >> reporter: now detectives here at southwest want your help, if you recognize that thief or if you see the chrysler minivan, it is a white town and country, license tag pennsylvania jmx-6013. meanwhile police say that there is a lesson for all of us here, don't ever leave your car anywhere with the engine running. live from southwest detectives

here. >> reporter: howard jaf i helped create team cancer america. >> a lot of letters, phone calls, and beg to go meet roger. >> reporter: he made the connection and new the who fan is a partner with daultry and towns end, in teen cancer america which has facilities in a dozen hospitals across the country. >> it is unbelievable because you see rock stars and they are these iconic figures but at the end of the the day they are just good guys, good people, they were philanthropic files with a real purpose to help others. >> reporter: thinks a new space at children's hospital of philadelphia created by the charity. >> this space isn't ready yet the but we plan on having more flat screens, more gaming systems, we will repaint everything. >> reporter: thinks where teenage chop patients will be able to come for some distractions and some fun. >> they need a space of their own to address their needs. >> reporter: who cares legend will live not with just their music but with the young cancer patients being helped by the rockers.

>> roger just got off of his sound check, he came down, to talk to us about why he cares so much about helping kids with cancer. here's roger. >> you got a terrific children's hospital and nursery. it will have, you know, not clowns on the wall and toys to play with and teddy bears, you name it, they will have everything that is good for a child. you ask them what they got for a teenager, adolescent, young adult, nothing. i just sort of sense that this made because i realized that whatever we do, with fighting cancer, it will be very expensive. i just saw a thing here where we could maybe improve those outcomes in a much cheaper way. >> reporter: with that new center at chop, roger says it is a special gift he is leaving as he plays his final concert here in philadelphia tonight. live from the wells fargo

center i'm stephanie stahl, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> rock on, so many levels. >> indeed. >> thanks, stephanie. >> very thoughtful to think about those kid, adolescence, some like it hot, some like it cold and that can lead to battles over thermostat. >> that brings up a good question, why are women always cold. it is tonight's good question. our nicole brewer went looking for the answer and she will have it tonight on "eyewitness news" at 11:00. kate is here new with a look at the forecast. >> it is not too bad over the next couple days to take was ugly but the first really ugly day we have had for a while. yesterday wasn't great. today was worse but things will get better, in the next couple of days. we have shower chances in the forecast, on and off this week, it will not end up like last week where we have a string of sunny beautiful days. we will have showers and cloud here and there throughout the week but temperatures averaging well above normal for early to mid-march. the lets look at is what going on outside right now, still very bright, as we no, we set these clocks forward yesterday and daylight savings time now

is in fully affect and that means it still looks like daylight as we show you live look at center city low clouds and fog leading to a bit of the messy commute, not a lot of extra daylight to enjoy because it is cloudy, gray, glummy but it looks brighter then it did this morning at least. storm scan three shows heavy rain from earlier today has started to move out. we're in a dry slot, dry segment here in between systems. so one storm moving away, where chilly air is embedded with all this rain and cloud cover. it is raining heavily over southeastern, new england, into long island animals chew sets. not a lot of rain in this area but mist and drizzle heading through evening hours. then we have a warm front drifting through portions of ohio and west virginia bringing nasty thunderstorms right now. a lot warmer then it is here. we could see these showers early tomorrow morning. then we will get high pressure to wedge in ever so briefly bringing us the chance to see some sun late tomorrow and into wednesday. we will take a closer look at timing in just a minute. the first let show you current

temperatures. 46 degrees in philadelphia a it is chilly outside especially in comparison with what we have been feeling. forty-three in trenton. forty-six in wilmington. 46 degrees in lancaster. look at how much warmer? this is a pocket of warm air. the it is bringing warm air witt. sixty's and few 70's over portions of west virginia, 62 degrees in cleveland. zero seven in st. louis. this that warmer air starting to lift toward us through the next couple days. overnight just cloud cover, maybe a shower early tomorrow morning and then by late afternoon we will see a few breaks in the cloud cover. we will see sunshine. that is the wednesday story as well. partly sunny. just a chance of the sprinkle. 40 percent chance of rain tomorrow. 10 percent on wednesday. 40 percent on thursday. cooler air is lurking to the north and west. that will try to swing in later this week and into the weekend. overnight we're down to the mid 40's, light rain, drizzle, chilly, tomorrow we're at 46 with morning showers with sun and wednesday, some sunshine as well, starts to get cooler toward weekend. friday and saturday look good.
