spotty showers but as we move toward sunset in the next hour, hour and a half this activity will start to wind down. but what to expect this evening? some spotty showers over the next couple of hours, mainly first half of the evening. the isolated thunderstorm is still possible, but, again a lot of this activity is after we lose heating of the day, after sunset it will wind down but watch out for slick spots on the roadways, over the next couple of hours. temperatures right the now we had another mild day climbing in the 60's in philadelphia, we are back at 58 degrees right now, rain cooled air, 56 in allentown, still up at 60 in millville. we will keep it the fairly mild as we head in the day tomorrow to cap off the workweek. windy conditions, though, some really gusty wind heading into tomorrow afternoon and ushering in some cold in the upcoming weekend. first day of spring is on sunday but we are watching a winter storm that could bring us some measurable snow fall. we will talk more about that threat coming up in a couple minutes, jessica. >> lauren, thanks very much.

football coach at conestoga a high school in tredyffrin has resigned amid a hazing controversy. coach joe logan has stepped down following the october assault of a freshman football player. that a assault is now subject of an internal investigation by the school district. an investigation by chester county district attorney resulted in charges against three seniors. we're now getting an inside look at how septa police arrested the man accused of shooting a church's chicken employee. police say a tip led them to find ronald graham sleeping on a route 23 bus last week. surveillance video shows septa officer quietly evacuating passengers off that bus. body cam video shows the at rest from another perspective. >> one of our tactic california officers has his phone in his hand and he is looking at the picture of ronald graham and when they take his hat off he looks and says that is it, and you can try to fake it the but you will not get the away witt. >> the 70 year-old graham is

due in court tomorrow for a status hearing on a mental healthy valuation. a septa passenger is called a hero tonight for helping to stop a man who allegedly slashed a fellow passenger takey brower was heading to work when he heard screams and saw a man police identified as edward gay allegedly brandishing a knife and screwdriver. a 17 year-old passenger had already been slashed in the throat. brower knew he had to act quick and fast. >> i said listen man, i don't movie don't want to hurt you. he was screaming shoot me, shoot me. >> i give him credit. i didn't overreact. did he what i would expect a police officer to do. >> court record show the 67 year-old suspect was arrested last june for slashing a bus passenger with a penn, he was charged in november, with slashing a third bus rider in west philadelphia. well, sixers will take on oklahoma city thunder later in it but before the game a thunder player, born and bread in south philadelphia, took

time to give back just days after violence rocked his family. cherri gregg from our sister station kyw news radio explains how generosity is helping him through grief. >> this is a special day for me. i will cherish this the rest of my life. >> reporter: dion waiters walked into cheers at stanton elementary school, a place with a range of memories from a teacher, that fueled his death to the hope that grew his love of basketball and to a nba career. >> that is where we all started right there. >> reporter: waiters never forgets home. he comes back for the good, and the bad, like last tuesday, when his younger brother, dimitri pinkany was murdered in grays ferry. police say he suffered head yours during an argument involving dirt bike gangs. >> it will take a a while for me to get over, my little brother. >> reporter: days after a devastating death waiters is giving life to a $10,000 donation to the place where it

know, one in fact here. >> this is one of the biggest days in sports. we have super bowl, kentucky derby and then ncaa tournament. >> reporter: while some hoops fans are watching from barstools, many more planted in office chairs conflict employees thinking about their brackets and trying not to look like they are slacking off but some experts say indulging in b-ball during business hours isn't all that bad. >> overall impact on the economy, overall productivity for an entire organization is really not that significant. >> reporter: assistant professor of management studies at rutgers canned between oscar holmes say employers don't to have go nuts. while analysts predict billions are lost because of the ncaa tournament, that is assuming people don't make up the work. >> research shows most employees make up the time, that they actually engage in one or two hours of watching the basketball games. >> reporter: holmes suggest offices look for ways to make march madness a group activity as long as it is safe and does not involve betting money. >> they may also want to

well, on tuesday, you can help families of children who are ill have a home away from home by donating to our ronald mcdonald house charities tell-a-thon. >> for one family from kentucky the camden house has been their home base for yeast as gideous gets much treatment to help walk. >> that is the office, and staircase. >> reporter: gideous egan knows his way around the ronald mcdonald house in camden. >> giving me a comfortable bed and they are all going to come here to help volunteer, and make things comfortable. >> reporter: adopted at age three, gideous is being treated for a problem. >> i cannot walk, so i have

strength in my legs, so i cannot walk. >> reporter: he was born with the condition and some doctors say he would never walk again. but his parents, found a specialist at shriner's hospital to said he could. since 2011 he and his mom have traveled to camden from kentucky several times a year for surgery and treatment, almost every time they have stayed at the ronald mcdonald house in camden. >> it just makes it so much easier because you don't have to worry about where your meals are going to come from. you don't have to worry about, the huge expense of a hotel room. >> reporter: that means he a and his family can focus on healing and working towards the ultimate goal: walking. >> i get a cast on but i think in a month and then i start physical therapy, so i can starting able to stand and then walk with crutches. the just step by step. >> reporter: a little boy with a big dream that will hopefully soon be a reality. >> that is a smile that is so

philadelphia is we have people who are fourth, fifth, sixth generations from ireland. they are all celebrating my home land like here in my adopted hometown. >> it is a great deep culture. i think sometimes it is easier to trivialized witt green beer and funny hats but it is that but much more than that. >> they also celebrated on sunday with the annual st. patrick's day parade. today is national history day, and at the national constitution center some students, marked the occasion. >> they faced off in the history competition with the chance to win a scholarship, kyw news radio reporter justin was there. >> the national constitution center, played host to the students presented projects with themes of exploration, encounter or exchange in history. jamie riveria's project was on the history of climate change. >> we started out by looking at anxious sit that is were originally sun k by rising sea levels. we decided to connect them to current cities about to go under water. we then related them by,

discussing how some of these future cities have learned from our past cities. >> reporter: event organizers say program helps build students, to be able to use, the rest of their lives. >> it business helping kid, through history, learn critical thinking skills. learn how to do research. learn how to do presentations. and also, they learn a lot about our democracy. >> reporter: officials say over last 11 years the nast history program has awarded more than $80,000 in scholarships to students and put approximately 2.5 million-dollar, of resources into philadelphia schools. >> we have provided the drives, flash drives, we have services that we provide teachers, we have provided mentors to teachers, and support of their schools. >> reporter: students took place in the top three in the regional competition will have scholarships to compete for state championship to go to nationals in washington d.c. justin udo for kyw news radio for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and we have just learned

that new details tonight about the memorial services for boothwyn native jacai colson. the maryland police officer was shot and killed sunday accidentally by another officer during a shoot-out. there will be a memorial service a week from tomorrow in maryland. the officer colson's funeral will be held monday march 28th at lawn croft cemetery in marcus hook, both ceremonies are private. lauren is joining us now and spring is on its way but boy, mother nature isn't quite in sink yet. >> it the is a season of transition and our sky looks like that. there is cloud, sunshine, you don't know where you will get but good rainbow conditions right now. keep an eye on the the sky over the next hour or so. we did have some spotty showers and a couple of thunderstorms rolling through the last couple hours. that activity is winding down but as we head in the upcoming weekend, watching a spring storm that could bring us some snowfall. old man winter just does not wanting to away. he wants his last moment. we will kick him out of here

with a very quickly this weekend but i focus on sunday and that potential for some snowfall but right now, temperatures in center city philadelphia, 58 degrees. we have a mix of low cloud right the now, looking kind of ominous but still sunshine making its way to the the surface. again we see a rainbow or two, wind shifted out of the north at 8 miles an hour. storm scan three showing us a trend over last couple of hours. we will start off with sunshine and cloud deck increase throughout the afternoon, spotty showers, one severe thunderstorm but activity, really starting to wind down. as we head in the next hour or two. that trend will continue future weather showing us heading in the 8:00 o'clock hour a few residual showers lingering around into midnight and that rain is out of here. planning on a late st. pat i's day night you will to have bring that along. overnight tonight clearing skies. a as we wake up tomorrow morning, a lot of sunshine to kick us off on our friday morning. no problems for the friday morning commute. we will see increasing cloud so as we head in the second

half of tomorrow but for tonight it is gradual clearing, a cool breeze. we are down to 44 degrees with that west wind at 10 miles an hour. for our friday we will have windy conditions, west wind starting to pick up especially around lunchtime, 15 to 25 miles an hour with higher gusts. maybe isolated shower toward second half of the day but temperatures still mild and above average, 57 degrees. whipped speeds right now we have pick up a a little bit, breezy at times in some areas with those wind speed up to ten to 15 miles an hour. wind variable right now with area of low pressure passing off to the south. temperatures still mild, 58 degrees in philadelphia. we made it in the 60's today. our average high is at five 46789 much more milder then. that mid 50's in the lehigh valley a and hanging out in the up are 50's down the shore. looking up wind is there much chillier air toward the upper midwest and looking towards upcoming weekend that air is going to start to spill in on the back side of an area of low pressure. we will see a coastal low moving up that will bring us

moisture. but for tomorrow breeze toy windy, quiet day, that cold air spills in as we head into saturday and then that coastal area of low pressure that will bring us that snowfall potential. what we know so far spring snowfall, period of wintry mix and snow. we could see significant accumulation especially north and west of the city, on sunday but for tomorrow, just a possibility of a late day shower, in problems there. but into sunday that is the day to watch right now, we are not going to put up forecast totals but we could see significant totals north and west of the city where we are going to see period of snow and wintry mix here in philadelphia. we could see accumulation but again it is march, as it falls, it will gone, you won't even need to shovel it. >> shaking my head over here. >> lauren, thank you. the "cbs evening news" is just a few minutes away. >> scott pelley joins us now with a look ahead. >> here's the "cbs evening news", tonight a lead poisoning crisis has hit another major u.s. city, as
