morning. we are sitting on freeze warnings to keep in mind. very cold start for april standard, yeah, it is atypical. just bundle up heading outside for sunday brunch, going out for sunday services you need winter coat here today, guys but we'll basically just full sunshine here this afternoon. we are giving way to few more clouds. we will see storm scan 3a good place to start to get the lay of the land. storm scan quiet. we have cleared out nicely but because it is still so cold freeze warning in effect for the entire region until 10:00 this morning. what that basically means if you have any sensitive vegetation i feel like at this point you would have brought it in if you cared bit enough because with all that snow that came yesterday, yeah, you know, those sensitive plants may not have had a chance through yesterday's snow but 32 is the current temperature meanwhile at the airport. the it is colder then that if you go further north and west and through more remote suburbs in south central, new

jersey as well but around the region we can expect to see more sun then anything. the eventually some clouds will rebuild but it is still cold. we will flirt with 50, we will probably barely have a a chance to hit it in almost any location. with that said it is cold but sun returns, some rain returns to the forecast, i will tell you when but in the meantime it looks like temperatures start to ease up with time here, we will have all of that detail in the seven day forecast, later in the the show. back to you. >> thanks, casey. we have just heard katie mention it there but slick road may be to blaming for an early morning crash in burlington, new jersey. driver hit a pole, flipped over and was thrown from the car. the it happened around 2:00 this morning on bridge road in shamong. no details on the victim's condition. the causes under investigation. feeling much more like winter right now snowfall was intense in parts of the the south jersey. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff has more on how gloucester county handled the springtime snow.

>> reporter: after a season of hunkering down, and an additional winter-likening brought saturday night back inside. >> we had big thick flakes but great to go bowling. >> reporter: much of south jersey was hit with blinding snowfall at times, with accumulation in certain areas. >> i was wearing shorts yesterday to work and now it is coming down like it is december. >> it is snowing. >> reporter: in mullica eight year-old steph, seemed less than enthused at first but showed us how he makes the best of the snowy, spring situation. do you like the snow. >> yes. >> reporter: it is yummy, right. >> it taste like water. >> reporter: he says since our winter was on the mild side there is no sense in complaining. >> it is april, i think i liked march better. >> reporter: whether it is bowling or simply settling in this region took this snow as a great excuse to simply a stay inside.

help him, however, beat those chilly temperatures. now not quite the ideal day for a lacrosse game, "eyewitness news" was on temple's campus where women's team faced off against vanderbilt in the snow. some of the the players there still out in shorts, that is dedication, plenty of people showed up to cheer on the owls, even though the conditions weren't great. spring snow also hit harrisburg a couple inches accumulated on the ground, vehicles and park benches but there the snow just for the most part left the roads slippery. and, switching gears to sports, the flyers are playoff bound, they did it now by beating the pittsburgh penguins. the flyers did get some help when detroit and boston both lost. game was tied in the second period and then wayne simmonds kicked in his second goal of the contest and gave flyers the lead for good. they beat pittsburgh three-one. after the game the team's

turning gears to campaign 2016, democrat bernie sanders and republican ted cruz are inching closer to the front runners. the sanders won wyoming caucus and cruz locked up quite a few delegates in colorado. next big prize is new york. cbs news correspondent brian web is on the campaign trail. >> reporter: home turf battle will is brewing between brooklyn born bernie sanders and hillary clinton who made new york her adopted home. >> i actually think new york values are really good for america. >> reporter: whooping 291 delegates are up for grabs in new york. sanders is behind in the delegate count but making up for momentum taking eight of the last nine contests with a win in wyoming. sanders got the news from his wife and announced it to a crowded auditorium in queens. >> all right, news bulletin, we just won wyoming. >> reporter: ted cruz grabbed colorado's 37 delegates saturday and then rushed off to nevada where he poke fun at

100 people. sparked from a fire works show ignited a separate batch of fire works stored in the temple complex. huge flames engulfed building within minutes, trapping hundreds within the temple. the fire injured 200 others and got at the temple. frantic manhunt is over for a suspect caught on tape just before the brussels airport terror attacks. jonathan vigliotti has latest from london. >> reporter: belgium prosecutors finally have their so-called, man in the hat, they say that he is mohammad abrini one of the terror suspects rounded up in raids in brussels on friday. during interrogation authorities say a beanie admitted he is person in surveillance video seen next to the suicide bombers in the brussels airport abrini is also linked to the paris a tax last november. was caught on the security camera with salah abdeslam, two days after the massacre in the french capitol. a beanie is one of the four

latest measurable snow we have had was between april 19th and 20th in 1938, a little bit more recent. and the the latest snow that we have ever reported was actually in may, may eighth, of 1947 it wasn't much just a trace but there you have it. it can happen. yesterday was impressive, let's be honest, it was a clipper system that had basically bigger legs to stand on. in malvern we had 5 inches of snow. glen mills pick up over three. 3 inches in mullica and list goes on. at philly international the with just a couple tenth of an inch but enough that you noticed it. storm scan at this point has completely calmed down, cleared out. that system is barely a blip on the radar at this point but things are always ever changing in the the weather department. we will get out to the eastern 23rd of the united states, two separate bridges of the jet stream bringing in one system disturbance to the the great lakes a and another down through the deep south. these two pieces come together

and we will see this move through as a cold front with wet weather in the days ahead and we will track that. in the meantime we are hosting the masters right here on cbs-3 and it the looks like things will stay dry with sunshine and upper 60's in augusta a today. looking at the live neighborhood network what a beautiful sunrise but i will show you this view and look closely a at a baseball diamond outside middletown ship high school. it looks like a thin layer of either some snow or some icing that was left behind and cannot even see the sheen on the rooftops here. the bottom line is not driving on the rooftop but if you see something that looks wet outside there is a a good shot it has since frozen over from yesterday's snow. do be careful. anything untreated where you you did well with the snowfall band that is where you might run into that. we will jump to future weather, still pretty quiet. clouds will rebuild by this point but regardless it is a sign of things to come. next frontal boundary on the way bringing in a publishing he will on the radar of a couple showers, now at the

>> chilly but no snow. >> way to look at the bright side, rahel, you have to take at least a bright spot of the forecast when you can because it is quite chilly outside. thankfully barely a noticeable wind at all but it is cold. would i suggest if you are going out to brunch or sunday services you will layer it upstood and you will want to have that scarves and gloves ready to go. let me show you what is happening first and foremost on storm scan three, it is not a lot and certainly that was not the case yesterday. we will take victories where we can get them. looking at the satellite coverage we have nothing to see. everything has cleared out overhead. we will continue to keep that trending. now there is a freeze warning, that is still in effect and it lasts for another couple of hours until 10:00 this morning but if you have not protect the plants or any sensitive vegetation and yesterday was the snow and it the may not have necessarily survived through that. so hopefully you have a chance to do that but average, on average, our last freeze happens, around mid-april. so we're getting to the point

where we should start to ease up, in terms of this concern. here's where we stand with temperatures. it is chilly. we are in the teens, 20's at best in a couple spots. still holding tough at the freezing mark at philly international but i can tell you or standing out here on the sky deck, it is cold but thankfully you do not have that harsh wind chill to go with it but what you see is what you get. chilly beginning for the morning for sure. no factoring in the wind chill today but regardless by 9:00 a.m. we are still stuck in the 30's here. looking ahead we will see temperatures rebound more, we are expecting more sun then anything today. but with time the clouds are expect to start to increase, and at best today would i say about 49 degrees is the best we can hope for. so we do not the spec to crack 50-degree mark in most spots but at least we have got sunshine, and that eventually does shift, as this tend to do with the weather pattern. we will track some rain early in the week, i will tell you when you will want to have the umbrella ready to go but in the meantime, rahel you can expect temperature trend that

will ease up on us, somewhat with time here. we will talk bit, coming up. >> silver lining, thanks katie. police are investigating a pair of armed robberies at 7-eleven in northeast philadelphia police tell us that the first robbery happened at a 7-eleven on the 7900 block of frankford avenue, around 2:00 this morning. the second robbery, happened about ten minutes later the at the 7-eleven at bridge and thompson streets. now investigators say three men armed with the gun got away with cash and cigarettes, before leaving, and in a maroon vehicle will. no details on how much money was taken, thankfully, however, no one was injured. off-duty officer shoots and kills a suspect robber during an attempted hold up in philadelphia. "eyewitness news" on the corner of broad street and chew avenue in olney, police say a man tried to rob an elderly man at gunpoint. that is when an off-duty officer who just happened to be nearby, leaped into action. police say the the robber had a weapon, pointed it at the

officer before the officer, then return fire. a man is dead after driving his car into the schuylkill river, police are trying to figure out what went wrong. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh shows us what happened just before the crash. >> from the wall the car was a good 40 feet or so in the river and on its roof upside down submerged in about 6 feet deep of water. >> reporter: police say impact killed driver, a 26 year-old asian man, took a dive team more than an hour to recover his body pinned behind a wheel. police believe the driver was speeding down ferry road potentially trying to avoid the red light when he lost control of his car and slammed into this barrier here. you can still see debris from his 2012 volkswagen lying on the ground. tragedies like this may be preventable according to runners and walkers who exercise regularly a long kelly drive. >> i think the carries definitely -- >> just not paying attention

we will start to see amounts of the snow peer out as time progresses but we have seen it as late as tax day and we have seen it as late as even just march 3rd. so it really just depend on the year and what the pattern has up its sleeve. the as we have seen throughout the course of the winter it was el nino winter and it seems strange but might have seen snow as late as we are seeing it the but regardless, anything can really happen if the pattern is right. storm scan at this point this is right by me nice clear skies here. we are watching that disturbance become a retreating clouds on the radar at this point and we have two separate disturbances that have come together to form one system if you will. it will look more like just organized as just one system. looking forward in the forecast. this is what will bring in our next round of wet weather. temperatures have a chance to ease up over the course of time by monday that next system is coming through. the it will limit the warmth but it will also bring through some rain and then we will see jet stream move off to the north with time here and that will help temperatures ease
