love run. a couple minutes from right not. live report on the conditions coming up. we will check road conditions where there could be icy spots, we are lag live at route one, situation that we have been following, rain we will get a traffic report during the show. katie will tell us when to expect warmer temperatures. also ahead two robberies just seven minutes apart at 7-eleven convenient store. we will tell what you police say about the investigation. it is sunday april 10th i'm rahel solomon. well, katie is here or a sunday morning filling in for justin as he catches up, on some south jersey sleep. >> yes, what a novel idea no kidding. >> chilly morning. >> thankfully not terribly windy. we have that going for us. snow is gone. >> it is saturday. >> i know, those flakes were huge. >> they were huge. >> we have had a lot of moisture within that and temperatures were marginal that is part of it as well.

reason we didn't have that light fluffy snow it was not cold enough but it was cold enough to support it, coming down as it did, and we had a lot of moisture to work with with that system. it is all long out of here. we are at this point just dealing with it the as a distant memory and freeze warning in effect which we will get to. storm scan is nice, calm, collect and quiet and that will stay that way throughout the course of the day. we will go to the area temperatures and at this point now that the sun has been up for an hour and a half or so we're starting to see a modest rebound take place here, and many of these spots in the 30's were stuck in the 20's for as long as we have been on the air since 6:00 this morning. but we are seeing a rebound. more northerly component to the wind flow. even though it is not necessarily windy but it is feeling chill which that wind flow and you can see how calm it is right now outside in our live neighborhood network but a blanket of snow over the sand, on the beach. looking forward in the

eyewitness weather, regional wide forecast talking upper 40's at best. mid-april you are talking lower 60's on average. it is a chilly day for the standard despite a that sunshine and as we look forward in the forecast i do promise that temperatures will ease up but along the way it comes with a trade off and that will be in the form of some rainfall which i will track for you a bit later in the show, rahel, now back to you. katie, thank you you. we are just moments away from the start of the love run, cherri gregg from our sister station kyw 1060 is live at the start of the race on ben franklin parkway. good morning, cherri. >> good morning, rahel. as you can see the run is just about to start. we had our wheelchair runners come through the start line and now they are about to start in just a second. you heard them give a 20 seconds count down and now as you can see folks have been stretching, trying to stay warm but this is perfect running weather, as i have

been told and here's that number, four, three, two, one... >> they're off. 10,000 runners. they are all at different pacees from 13 minutes all the way down to about six and a half minutes. they are taking off at the very scenic tour of philadelphia a, that they are going on. all the way down to sixth street, backup, market and then down ml k drive this morning. 13 miles from this the first half marathon of the running season. they have been stretching, sort of jumping up and down all morning trying to stay warm but i understand that by the time they hit mile two most of them will be pretty warm. the big issue with this cold will be freezing, because a lot of water is being thrown to the side so they will be putting sand down a long the route to make sure runners don't slip. there will be an issue you for spectators like myself

standing on the side line trying to get warm because our own body heat will be keeping us that way because we're not running. the as you can see there is 200 teams, 10,000 runners runnem 42 different states all will gathered here for this premiere half mar thon. the first of the season for philadelphia. this is what people use to gear up for the broad street run. they will go all the different stops in the city of brotherly love and that is one of the reasons why they called it the love run. so it will be a couple of hours that they are out here, running, again, the first half mar then of our season, 10,000 runners, look at them, colorfully dressed, they have their hats, their layers but they will be throwing those clothes off by the time they hit mile two as part of the love run. don't you just love it, people staying in shape, being healthy out here for the third annual love run. live at the starting line at

"eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff has more on how gloucester county handled the springtime snow. >> reporter: after a season of hunkering down, an additional winter-likening brought saturday night back inside. >> we have had big flakes but great to come out here with snow falling. >> reporter: much of the south jersey was hit with nearly blinding snowfall at times with dense a accumulation in certain areas. >> i was wearing shorts yesterday to work and now it is coming down like it is december. >> it is snowing. >> reporter: in mullica eight year-old step seemed enthused at first but showed us how he makes the best of the the

long ways away. where is summer? spring flowers getting a coating of snow in plymouth meeting montgomery county. snow certainly pretty to look at the but did it stick? leaving the roads and grass for the most part just wet. snow not however bothering this dog, look at that cutie, he seems to be enjoying playing in it as he rolls around the rocks in wissohickon. now his extra coating of fur did help them beat the chilly temperatures. frolicking in the snow. not however quite the ideal day for lacrosse game "eyewitness news" on temple campus where women's team faced off against vanderbilt in the snow some players still out there in shorts not bothered a at all and plenty of people also showed up to cheer on the owls, even though the conditions weren't great. spring snow also hit harrisburg, a couple inches accumulated on the ground, vehicles and park benches the snow there for the most part just leaving the roads

slippery. slick road may be to blame for an early morning crash in burlington, new jersey. police tell us that the the driver hit a pole, flipped over, and then was thrown from the car. it happened around 2:00 on bridge road in shamong. no details on the vick tell's condition. the causes under investigation. police are investigating a pair of armed robberies at 7-elevens in northeast philadelphia a police tell us that the first robbery happened at a 7-eleven on the 7900 block of frankford avenue, around 2:00 this morning. the second robbery happened around ten minutes later, at the 7-eleven at bridge and thompson streets. investigators say three men armed with the gun, got away with some cash and cigarettes, before leaving in a maroon vehicle, in details on how much money was taken but thankfully no one was injured. off-duty officer shoots and kills a suspected robber during an attempted hold up in philadelphia. "eyewitness news" on the corner of the the broad street and chew avenue in olney,

police say a man tried to rob an elderly man at gunpoint when an off-duty officer who happened to be nearby leaped into action. police a say robber had a weapon pointed it at the officer before the officer opened fire. the frantic manhunt is now over for suspects caught on tape just before the brussels airport terror attacks. jonathan vigliotti has very latest now from london. >> reporter: belgium prosecutors finally have the so-called, man in the hat, they say he is mohammad a beanie, one of the terror suspects rounded up in raids on friday. during interrogation authorities say abrini admitted he is the person in surveillance video seen next to the suicide bombers in the brussels airport. abrini is also linked to the paris attacks last april. he was caught on the gas station security camera, with terror suspect salah abdeslam two days before the coordinated massacre in the french massacre. abrini is one of the four men charged with participating in

terror attacks. thirty-two people died last month at the airport, and the at a brussels subway station. the authorities say one of the suspects in custody is osama, he is a cues of being the second man at deadly train station attack. belgium police carried out more raids saturday, as they looked for additional accomplices, and worked to counter fierce criticism that they have in the done enough to battle will terrorism. jonathan vigliotti for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and belgium's prime minister announced a saturday that the government was looking to recruit the a thousand more officers, for the federal police force. a fire in the crowded temple in southern india has claim more than a hundred lives. a spark from a fire works show ignited a separate batch of fire works that has been stored in the temple complex. huge flames engulfed the building within minutes trapping hundreds within the temple. the fire injured at least two hundred others and gutted the temple. still to come this morning we will catch up with the

whatever she want, right? looking at storm scan three it is nice and clear, one wide zoom shows more wet weather on the way. it looks somewhat disorganized. the we are watching a frontal boundary that will take shape and bring through additional wet weather for early part of your week. down in the deep south for masters today those lucky guys, mostly sunny and please a ant in august a with full sunshine. so you can watch that right here on cbs-3 in the comfort of your nice warm living room. with that said chillies with us today, having trouble advancing these graphics. freeze warning still in effect here across the entire region. everyone shaded in the purple. you might wonder why we don't see any freeze warnings up toward lehigh valley, poconos, that is because at this point it is still too early in the season to start to put those out. you can still get enough cold. by the tail end of april is when we will see final freeze that you will see during this time of the year. the that is if it is warranted

we will see them popping up again. at as we go outside taking a live look, sky top lodge, beautiful view, if it weren't so cold, it is just absolutely a beautiful view up this way. bright blue skies, beautiful lake and light, light win. now things do go back downhill for us, they tend to at some point but we will get through entire sunday time frame without a hitch. always 10:00 o'clock tonight barely clouds out there those will build with time. tomorrow though we will start to see scattered showers, in the area radar, most notely future weather picks up a cross southeastern pa and as we hit first pitch for phillies there will be something to track. the question is where does it set up? this is not a gospel what you are looking at the here with future weather but just guidance. i went be shocked to see this set up in a different location. question is, is it over citizens bank park. we will see how we do but regardless the wetter of the two day comes tuesday. look at that heavy rain for tail even of the typical morning rush through midday round have rain pushing through, in relatively slow

road, just due to a very serious multi vehicle accident that is here. we have emergency crews on the scene along with police crew that is will be here longer, so it is already been closed for a couple hours now. and that closure will unfortunately continue route one in bucks county shut down between i-95 and oxford valley road due to a serious accident. we will move traffic cam here to i-95 at walt whitman bridge this portion of 95 looks good looking at walt whitman at the top of the screen no delays offer problems. taking that to pennsauken township on 30 westbound and airport circle there is a down utility pole in the middle of the roadway, two lanes close there had. on to the ben franklin parkway looking at the sea of people there ben franklin parkway westbound is shut down between logan square and art museum circle what you are looking at now and martin luther king drive shut down between parkway and falls bridge. that is latest from the cbs-3 traffic center i'm ann evans now rahel back to you.

princess charlotte gets and early birthday gift her very own flower. a flower company created this new bloom made for young princess looking beautiful there. they even delivered a bouquet of the flowers to the royal couple shortry after charlotte's birth. they are pink with green tips. the young princess turns one years old next month and percentage of the proceed from each sale of charlotte's flower will be donated to a children's charity. and on the cbs-3 healthwatch celebrating the beauty and power of women who served in the military with a special competition. the winner gets a crown but this isn't traditional beauty pageant. health reporter stephanie stahl introduces us to a local contestant for miss veteran america. >> reporter: twenty-nine year-old erika walsh is training to win the title of push up princess. >> i love challenge, and anything that makes me step outside my comfort zone. >> reporter: erika, a trainer

we are definitely feeling the chill out here, but not the terribly windy. we will see sunshine through the better part of the day. some good news i come to offer, say for the fact that it is so cold outside. it sure beats snow. unless you are dig ago this snow it left behind a mess to clean up, right, at this point, however nothing but blue skies overhead here at cbs-3 and rest of the region as a whole. we will start off by taking to you storm scan where it is clear as a bell and stay that way all day to day, a few clouds will start to build in with time here but again, it is dry, that is the key, taking a quick peak at what is in store, at least for another hour and a half, we have a freeze warning in effect, regional wide, protect those plants and sensitive vegetation but at this point i hope did you have a chance to do that but average last freeze is about this time of the year, so we may have one of our sleeves before you all said and done. we will see temperatures easing up. this may be the last gasp, we will see how we do.

33 degrees is temperature at philly international. twenty-one mount pocono. still chilly outside, but as day progresses, we will ease up a little bit upper 40's as opposed to the lower 40's from yesterday but we can expect to see a few clouds building with time, still staying dry, however, that is the spectation, although there is wet weather that does return to the forecast and then coming up i will tell you when to expect that, rahel, back inside to you. >> can't wait to hear it, thanks, katie. love run is underway in philadelphia, 10,000 runners are braving very frigid temperatures to take on the half marathon. cherri gregg from our sister station kyw 1060 is live in the middle of the action on ben franklin parkway. good morning, cherri are you warm yet. >> i am still cold, no, i'm not warm yet, rahel but the run started just a few moments ago, 10,000 runners across the starting line ripping off their clothes in 30 plus degree weather as they tried to stay warm until the race started. one of the beneficiaries of

all that clothe ago this was thrown off to the side is an organization called clothespin and i'm here live with madeline and michael rest nick, founders of the organization, tell me exactly what you will be doing with all of the clothing that was thrown off today. >> so all these pieces of clothes will be going to a home less shelter, the breakfast club, and so, they will take clothing and distribute them to home less people to stay warm in the winter. >> reporter: wonderful. today is huge. how many pieces will you get to day. >> we will get a couple thousand pieces and we are excited, so we did a quarter million for eight years we have been doing this in philadelphia. >> reporter: a quarter million pieces. people kind of dress like hobos when they come to these races and throw off clothing because they don't need it as they come running. so as you can see there are bags and bags of clothing, about ten volunteers running through to pick up this clothing all along the race route. this is a half marathon. the first of the season.

all in the name of love. live from eakins oval, cherri gregg for kyw news radio for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> very good cause, thank you. turning to campaign 2016, democrat bernie sanders and republican ted cruz are inching closer to the front runners. sanders won the wyoming caucus and cruise got quite a few delegates in colorado. next big prize is in new york, cbs news correspondent brian web is on the campaign trail. >> reporter: home turf battle is brewing between brooklyn born bernie sanders a and hillary clinton who made new york her adopted home. >> i actually think new york will values are really good for america. >> reporter: whooping 291 delegates are up for grabs in new york, sanders is behind in the delegate count but making up for it with momentum taking eight of the last nine contests with a win in wyoming. sanders got the news from his wife and announced to it a crowded auditorium in queens.

>> reporter: good morning, rahel. we will start our conversation this morning with bernie sanders who has had a nice stretch of wins for his campaign, what does that mean for the larger democratic race? how will he make up that deficit he still has with hillary clinton in pledged delegates? then we will talk to john kasich on the republican side. he has plans for the opened convention a lot of republicans are preparing for in cleveland. what does it mean to have an opened convention? there is a lot of talk about fairness and how anybody other than donald trump is going to get the nomination. will we will talk to john case bic that but we will talk to anthony, the director of elections here at cbs news, about the map going forward. the it sound complicated. it is a little complicated. he will boil it down for us and help us pay attention to the right numbers and work through the complexity. we will also, rahel, have our political round table as always and then a special conversation with ken burns about his wonderful documentary about jackie robinson coming out good a lot
