reason we didn't have that light fluffy snow it was not cold enough but it was cold enough to support it, coming down as it did, and we had a lot of moisture to work with with that system. it is all long out of here. we are at this point just dealing with it the as a distant memory and freeze warning in effect which we will get to. storm scan is nice, calm, collect and quiet and that will stay that way throughout the course of the day. we will go to the area temperatures and at this point now that the sun has been up for an hour and a half or so we're starting to see a modest rebound take place here, and many of these spots in the 30's were stuck in the 20's for as long as we have been on the air since 6:00 this morning. but we are seeing a rebound. more northerly component to the wind flow. even though it is not necessarily windy but it is feeling chill which that wind flow and you can see how calm it is right now outside in our live neighborhood network but a blanket of snow over the sand, on the beach. looking forward in the

eyewitness weather, regional wide forecast talking upper 40's at best. mid-april you are talking lower 60's on average. it is a chilly day for the standard despite a that sunshine and as we look forward in the forecast i do promise that temperatures will ease up but along the way it comes with a trade off and that will be in the form of some rainfall which i will track for you a bit later in the show, rahel, now back to you. katie, thank you you. we are just moments away from the start of the love run, cherri gregg from our sister station kyw 1060 is live at the start of the race on ben franklin parkway. good morning, cherri. >> good morning, rahel. as you can see the run is just about to start. we had our wheelchair runners come through the start line and now they are about to start in just a second. you heard them give a 20 seconds count down and now as you can see folks have been stretching, trying to stay warm but this is perfect running weather, as i have

been told and here's that number, four, three, two, one... >> they're off. 10,000 runners. they are all at different pacees from 13 minutes all the way down to about six and a half minutes. they are taking off at the very scenic tour of philadelphia a, that they are going on. all the way down to sixth street, backup, market and then down ml k drive this morning. 13 miles from this the first half marathon of the running season. they have been stretching, sort of jumping up and down all morning trying to stay warm but i understand that by the time they hit mile two most of them will be pretty warm. the big issue with this cold will be freezing, because a lot of water is being thrown to the side so they will be putting sand down a long the route to make sure runners don't slip. there will be an issue you for spectators like myself

standing on the side line trying to get warm because our own body heat will be keeping us that way because we're not running. the as you can see there is 200 teams, 10,000 runners runnem 42 different states all will gathered here for this premiere half mar thon. the first of the season for philadelphia. this is what people use to gear up for the broad street run. they will go all the different stops in the city of brotherly love and that is one of the reasons why they called it the love run. so it will be a couple of hours that they are out here, running, again, the first half mar then of our season, 10,000 runners, look at them, colorfully dressed, they have their hats, their layers but they will be throwing those clothes off by the time they hit mile two as part of the love run. don't you just love it, people staying in shape, being healthy out here for the third annual love run. live at the starting line at

slippery. slick road may be to blame for an early morning crash in burlington, new jersey. police tell us that the the driver hit a pole, flipped over, and then was thrown from the car. it happened around 2:00 on bridge road in shamong. no details on the vick tell's condition. the causes under investigation. police are investigating a pair of armed robberies at 7-elevens in northeast philadelphia a police tell us that the first robbery happened at a 7-eleven on the 7900 block of frankford avenue, around 2:00 this morning. the second robbery happened around ten minutes later, at the 7-eleven at bridge and thompson streets. investigators say three men armed with the gun, got away with some cash and cigarettes, before leaving in a maroon vehicle, in details on how much money was taken but thankfully no one was injured. off-duty officer shoots and kills a suspected robber during an attempted hold up in philadelphia. "eyewitness news" on the corner of the the broad street and chew avenue in olney,

police say a man tried to rob an elderly man at gunpoint when an off-duty officer who happened to be nearby leaped into action. police a say robber had a weapon pointed it at the officer before the officer opened fire. the frantic manhunt is now over for suspects caught on tape just before the brussels airport terror attacks. jonathan vigliotti has very latest now from london. >> reporter: belgium prosecutors finally have the so-called, man in the hat, they say he is mohammad a beanie, one of the terror suspects rounded up in raids on friday. during interrogation authorities say abrini admitted he is the person in surveillance video seen next to the suicide bombers in the brussels airport. abrini is also linked to the paris attacks last april. he was caught on the gas station security camera, with terror suspect salah abdeslam two days before the coordinated massacre in the french massacre. abrini is one of the four men charged with participating in

terror attacks. thirty-two people died last month at the airport, and the at a brussels subway station. the authorities say one of the suspects in custody is osama, he is a cues of being the second man at deadly train station attack. belgium police carried out more raids saturday, as they looked for additional accomplices, and worked to counter fierce criticism that they have in the done enough to battle will terrorism. jonathan vigliotti for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and belgium's prime minister announced a saturday that the government was looking to recruit the a thousand more officers, for the federal police force. a fire in the crowded temple in southern india has claim more than a hundred lives. a spark from a fire works show ignited a separate batch of fire works that has been stored in the temple complex. huge flames engulfed the building within minutes trapping hundreds within the temple. the fire injured at least two hundred others and gutted the temple. still to come this morning we will catch up with the

we are definitely feeling the chill out here, but not the terribly windy. we will see sunshine through the better part of the day. some good news i come to offer, say for the fact that it is so cold outside. it sure beats snow. unless you are dig ago this snow it left behind a mess to clean up, right, at this point, however nothing but blue skies overhead here at cbs-3 and rest of the region as a whole. we will start off by taking to you storm scan where it is clear as a bell and stay that way all day to day, a few clouds will start to build in with time here but again, it is dry, that is the key, taking a quick peak at what is in store, at least for another hour and a half, we have a freeze warning in effect, regional wide, protect those plants and sensitive vegetation but at this point i hope did you have a chance to do that but average last freeze is about this time of the year, so we may have one of our sleeves before you all said and done. we will see temperatures easing up. this may be the last gasp, we will see how we do.

all that clothe ago this was thrown off to the side is an organization called clothespin and i'm here live with madeline and michael rest nick, founders of the organization, tell me exactly what you will be doing with all of the clothing that was thrown off today. >> so all these pieces of clothes will be going to a home less shelter, the breakfast club, and so, they will take clothing and distribute them to home less people to stay warm in the winter. >> reporter: wonderful. today is huge. how many pieces will you get to day. >> we will get a couple thousand pieces and we are excited, so we did a quarter million for eight years we have been doing this in philadelphia. >> reporter: a quarter million pieces. people kind of dress like hobos when they come to these races and throw off clothing because they don't need it as they come running. so as you can see there are bags and bags of clothing, about ten volunteers running through to pick up this clothing all along the race route. this is a half marathon. the first of the season.
