only matched by his business proes and charitable efforts. >> reporter: too often word like visionary and pioneer are used to describe, a person's effect on their community or world around them. word like great, or revolutionary, minimized by over use. when describing ed snider and his affect on the city of philadelphia and well beyond word like these don't even scratch the surface. ed snider changed philadelphia and lives of millions of people, forever. a native of washington d.c., snider first came to philadelphia to be part owner of the eagles in 1964, that began an over 50 year relationship with the city. often when snider saw an opportunity, a profitable business followed. in 1966 he establish the flyers, as part of an nhl expansion, but they would need a place to play so he created the spectrum and had a hand in the first sports complex of its kind in the world. through the flyers, other businesses bloomed, in 1974, snider founded spectacor,

which would become a sports and entertainment powerhouse that to this day operates internationally, and in 48 states. spectacor would be the business face of many institutions, today that are a part of our every day lives. snider would have a hand in the creation of the first all sports radio station, wip, as well as one of the first regional cable networks, prism. but his first love was always the flyers. >> ladies and gentlemen, the flyers are going to win the stanley cup. >> since the team's creation there has been nothing that snider wouldn't do to make the team a contender. two stanley cups, eight conference championships and 16 division titles in the teams 48 seasons. they have only missed the playoffs 11 times mostly due to snider's determination to give philadelphia fans a winner. >> the flyers have won their second consecutive stanley cup. >> reporter: it was snider's love of giving back that would come to define him in later

difference with the sky cover, 59 in reading, and allentown. sixty-seven right now in philadelphia at the airport. upper 60's in dover delaware. not a bad afternoon phillies game, perfect baseball conditions, and then it does get cooler though in the next couple days, another cool pocket of air. nothing like the weekend. that will track east behind this next cold front, still to the west, we have a mild night shaping up, maybe a couple light rain showers north and west this evening, the steadier rain holds off until after midnight into tomorrow morning. this evening we have spotty showers north and west, overnight that steady rain starts to move in. so tomorrow, watch out for generally just morning rain, and slow down morning commute, it is all because of the cold front that knocks temperatures back to the upper 50's tomorrow. still in the mid 50's on wednesday but we have mostly sunny skies and nice warming trend starts to develop on thursday. we're back in the 60's. the let's time it the out, travel plans this evening, most areas dry, cannot rule out that shower north and west. is there steady rain moving in at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

donovan looks at some things you can do to stop throwing away food and money. >> reporter: food scraps add up fast according to the the most recent estimates from the epa, americans waste 37 million tons of food and that is just for one year. money you spend on that food could be considered trash too, to help environment and your wallet, shop smart, before going to the grocery store check out what is in your refrigerator, cook or eat what you have, before you buy more, make a shopping list and plan menus. buying in bulk can help you save money but only if you use what you buy. before produce goes bad, freeze it, be mindful at restaurants. only order portions you can realistically eat and take home your left overs, you maximize your spending and cut down on waste. before you clean out your pantry thinking about donating untouched non-perishable food that can help a food pant try keep it shelves stocked. instead of tossing food in the trash bin start a compost pile
