from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". hail, hammers texas. there is damage outdoors, and indoors. eyewitnesses say it was a monster hail storm that pounded towns and left a trail of destruction behind. you know, they say everything is big in texas, and the size that far hail is no exception. more on that monster storm ahead. good afternoon, i'm brooke thomas. >> i'm jim donovan. same system that hit texas so hard luckily just brought us

rain that we experienced this morning. it was a splash i start to the day for drivers headed through league and circumstance old here in philadelphia, you can see the rain coming down steadily. let's get a first look at the forecast, with meteorologist, katie fehlinger live on the cbs-3 skydeck, katy? >> jim, thankfully at this point, facing south here on the skydeck at 16th and spring garden streets. but as i look off to the west, i can see the skies beginning to brighten up nicely here. and in fact the sun has actually popped through the western suburb already, so just matter of time before that happens here in philly then little later, down toward the shore towns, but it is all moving out of here from west to east, let's look at storm scan3, and the rain that came through, came through heavily, poor timing obviously for the morning drive. still out there, though, across at least the southeastern portion of our region, southern delaware, southern new jersey, still seeing some pretty decent rain. but again it is starting to clear out, it will continue to do so. now the temperatures have definitely been rain cooled, if you will, here, at best, up ear's in a lot of spot.

once the sun pops, casino of like it did yesterday, see the temperatures rebounds nicely, so we hovered around 06 in the last couple of hours, since dropped off. we do think we'll rebounds back to up at least near 60 if not hit it in most locations like it did this afternoon. that said, phillies are back at home obviously here, and this evening looks as though start off with sunshine, sunset shortly thereafter. but it will stay mostly clear, little breezy, certainly cool in the wake of that front. but, take a look at the temperature trend, in the next couple of days, guys, yep, even by sunday, expecting to hit at least 70 degrees. the question is: does it stay dry for that stretch? i'll have the answer in my full forecast for you, that of course coming up a bit later in the show. for now, jim, brooke, hey dry out on the skydeck. >> for more on dangerous weather across the southwest, clean up underway, hail the size of golf balls, did shocking amount of damage. our omar villafranca is there. >> reporter: punishing

everything in its path. ferocious storm system pounded north texas monday. torrential hail and wind near 70 miles per hour prompted tornado warning and pummeled homes and businesses as more than 10,000 people lost power. >> it is just incredible. i've never been through anything like this before. >> here in while i you can hear the glass shattering. asthmas i have hail stones peers through the windows of this home. no one inside was hurt. emergency services were so overwelmed, people were told to call 911 only if they face add life threatening situation. >> where do i begin? >> parts of tim taylor's home are ripped to shreds. >> so oh, that's more glass falling. >> arkansas, strong winds sent trees crashing into homes. >> when i heard the boom, i ducked, then i looked up, there was a tree in my house. >> bill's story and his wife, barely escaped injury. >> i heard hail, and i said

oh, lord just protect us. i didn't start praying soon enough. >> there were no reports of any major injuries, but the schools here in while i did take a beating. classes recanes he'd today for student so crews can start the repair process. omar villafranca, cbs news. >> locally mercer county teacher facing charges this noon, accused of inapropriate contact with a high school student. twenty-six year old edmond harman charged with three count every endangering of the welfare of child and another with criminal sexual contact. had student with the female, and held on $150,000 bail. calls for concerned neighbors lead to murder investigation in west philadelphia. >> man was found shot multiple times inside a running car. dodge charger that investigators say a 25 year old man sat shot to death possibly for hours before anyone discovered what transpired. the only reason police responded to this west philadelphia block was because of concerned neighbors. >> witnesses along the block saw the vehicle with the engine running and they saw the male sitting in the driver seat, he appeared to either have been sleeping or they thought he was sick. >> nineteenth district police arrived around 2:00 a.m. officers found the car idling, on the 1600 block of north redfield street. the driver side window was down, the man behind the wheel, slumped in his seat. only after officers lifted the man's shirt did they see he was shot at least three times. >> there was some balistic evidence inside of the vehicle, so it appears this victim was sitting in the drivers seat when he was shot and killed. >> the medical call turned into a homicide investigation. after spending hours at the scene, philadelphia police towed the car. police say the victim was known to borough it from a friend.

>> now, detective are returning to the scene today. they say they found businesses here along the 5900 block of lansdowne that had surveillance cameras, and they're hoping those cameras can provide video that can help identify a suspect or suspects. victims identified as 25 year old man who lives on the block, his family and witnesses, process every i can interviewed by police n west philadelphia, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> also well philadelphia, no injuries, but lenny of damage in the early morning fire, broke out first floor of row home 600 block of north 42nd street, about quarter to 3:00 this morning, crews had the fire under control in about 15 minutes. most recently served as virginia deputy secretary of

public safety and homeland security, before that, he was fire chief in alexandria, virginia, in addition, kenny will announce blanch carney as the city prison commissioner. she has been deputy commissioner since january of last year. >> pennsylvania state senators could vote any day now on the state's medical marijuana legislation. backers of the bill say they hope it will be on governor asidessing this week. wolf sports bill, recently amended to eliminate potential glitches and distribution largest innings, if passed the bill would allow people with 30 medical conditions to buy marijuana from a dispensary. >> judge has ruled the state of new jersey can seize ocean front land for protective do you know projects in margate. state's department of environmental protection trying to get strips of privately and city owned lands to build dunes to limit flooding and storm damage. margate says its wooden

>> back on "eyewitness news", making peace for music. that's the goal as these student drummers from israel. the peace drums steel band performed at philadelphia city hall this morning. the bands is made up of 12 to 15 year old israeli student, of christian, muslim and jewish faith. it all shows that music can help bring people together despite their differences. the children's hospital of philadelphia got a $5 million gift from the wawa foundation. in recognition of the generous donation, chop is renaming its existing volunteer program, brand new volunteer center after wawa. future plans for the gift will help increase volunteer programs at chop care network locations around the region. money will go toward wawa coffee and care cards, room service program for parents, of hospitalized children. this is great story. a virginia goat cheese farmer is looking for a few good men, women, and children, to

fulfill a very important job. >> chip read shows us why the farmers facebook ad went viral, and why baby goats need to be cuddled. >> at the car a mount goat cheese farm in southern virginia this is the time of year when baby goats run wild. and the hands full of employees are run ragged. about 100 goats were born here in less than two weeks. desperate for help, owner gale hobbs page advertised for volunteer baby goat kid letters. wasn't expecting much. >> so far, they've had over 2,000 responses from all ages. one of ashley's daughters found a match made in goat heaven. >> what's your goat's name? >> stella. >> and what's your name? >> stella. >> oh, that's special. >> volunteers are calling from as far away as california and australia. >> are you surprised by the response. >> yes and a little -- we're

poor brooke, you've been here for couple of weeks now. >> april is playing tricks on me, katie. >> i know, it's been a wacky start to the month, i promise you quieter weather down the road. stay with me. right outside, show you what's going on. the shotty promised you of the beach, yes, not pretty beach day. haven't seen one soul walking up and down outside beach patrol headquarters in margate city but by comparison we go to different shot, outside of the neighborhood network. cut town, couple of counties inland, hundred miles or so inland, looking much nicer. puffy clouds, blue skies popping through, obviously, the sun coming down, still see the shadow left behind by the shadows that move right before your very eyes, as the clouds pull away. that is what the rest of will you start to see if you haven't yet. here, looking at storm scan3, watching the system pull away, there is still wet weather to track, obviously, but it is most notably now to the southern most counties out toward the shore towns, few left over blips on the radar through camden, gloucester counties as well, but again things are drying out as we

speak, and i didn't need the umbrella out on the cbs-3 skydeck. definitely good news, wide zoom shows the whole system making full retreat. once it does, take a look, nothing to see here, folks, off in the distance, high pressure will settle in. it will be here a while. now, because we see that colder air coming in in the wake of the cold front tonight, i mention the freeze watch, does not include the i95 corridor and the immediate vicinity, it is so essentially not the hush and corridor, all of the outlying suburbs, lehigh valley, upper bucks, then all of south and interior portions of new jersey, so, that's where do you want to be, you know, protective of any of the sensitive vegetation, if you plan to put it back out again. warm thought for you, somer town, gotten into spring, only 82 days away, from july 4th, i know, seems so far away. but i know, i know, it will be here, though, i promise you looking ahead to nice pattern as soon as this front completely clears. take a look, there goes the front, see you later, high pressure builds, in and it

settles in. it will pay nice long visit. so yes, little cooler tomorrow, because you're still dealing with the cooler air mass in the wake of the front, but then we start to rebound from here, low 60s thursday, mid 60s friday. and actually into the upper 60s come saturday. and it actually looks as though it will keep getting milder at that point. yep, chilly tonight. probably want to grab the winter coat on way out the door tomorrow. but at least it is dry. you don't need the rain gear, and this seven day forecast, frankly, the most quiet one i've seen in a while. take a look, after the rain is out of here now that it is we will definitely see the rain return, look at the warming trend that comes into play here. every day, i mean, not an extreme kind of warming trends, but every day you tack on couple of extra degrees, to the point that we hit sunday, and we're cracking the 07 degrees mark with no problem, and monday might even be flirting with 80. >> wow. >> i see that smirk, jim! >> so only getting better from here, guys. >> thanks, katie, appreciate that. >> we'll take it. >> all right, okay, you guys want to hear about another world record that's been
