"eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live at the airport with more on what's causing the backup. david? >> reporter: jessica and ukee, nobody likes long lines especially at the airport. but we're seeing those longer lines good weather just about guarantees those long lines. the reason because transportation security administration screeners, that

number is shrinking. it's one of the most stressful parts of flying, the pre flight wait in security line that could be an hour, sometimes even longer. >> it looked like they were just slow as well. that her doing extra work. >> reporter: new data shows in one week last month, about 6800 american airlines passengers record number missed their flights because of the long lines. >> the security line like an hour. in the security line. >> reporter: date from cbs news shows the number of tsa screeners is down 15% from 2011. airport officials around the country and locally are doing their best to accommodate. >> we know that the line may look very long but there are many lanes within the checkpoints so even though the line looks long it ma not be quaint as daunting as it appears to be. >> tsa officials and lawmakers point out the security lines are just that, to ensure security. in a statement to "eyewitness news" a spokesperson said, the agency's number one priority is

keeping you safe. quote, we at tsa have row bit of plan to address the volume including more k9 use, encouraging pre check enroll many, overtime, accelerated hiring and more ". speaking of tsa pre check, new numbers show not as many people are signing up for the fast pass service. some don't want to pay. others don't know it exists. >> you have to just bear with everybody and be patient, you know. that's what it's all about. >> reporter: tsa official which is only do so much with the budget they're given from congress every year, but those officials promise to try to work through these issues they hope to have more screeners here at philadelphia international airport. and other airports around the country as soon as possible. reporting live tonight david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> all right, david, thanks so much. traffic is now back to normal following several protests that block streets in center city and near temple university. members of the philadelphia coalition for racial, economic and legal justice marched from broad and girard to city hall.

they called for an immediate end to the police department's stop and frisk policy, and increase in the minimum wage to $15 an hour. three protesters were arrested during a demonstration in old city. >> legendary singer diana ross is doing okay after a crash her limousine was hit by an suv that ran a stop sign last night in bethlehem. ' complained of head and neck pain after the collision but she was able to perform a show at the sands casino. ross tweeted today that she is fine and told fans not to worry. one of villanova's biggest fans gets the surprise of his live from the ncaa basketball national champions. >> two very special guests stopped by his playhouse to lift his spirits. natasha brown has the story from havertown, delaware county. >> reporter: as a reporter you're taught to never relinquish the microphone during an interview. >> ♪ >> unless it's to four-year-old blaze davis who wants to sing us the villanova fight song.

to get two of villanova's star basketball players in on the surprise to the family. >> we were completely surprised about the whole thing. this exceeded our expectations. >> he's excited. >> excited for everything. >> i think we were more excited who was there. he was excited for anybody that was there. >> emotional video taken by family friends is going viral. a lasting memory for an energetic and vivacious little boy whose on a long road to recovery. >> to see if smile when blaze turn the corner and saw who was in his playhouse that's priceless. >> we can never get a better memory. >> our hope this is a great memory he can tell his friends when he's, um, in his college dorm room at villanova one day. >> reporter: blaze is expected to have extensive surgery in the next month or so but his parent tell us that the and collingss say he's exceeding all of their expectations at this point and he's showing no signs of any abnormalities. in havertown, natasha brown cbs3 "eyewitness news".

get closer to this year's deadline of monday, april 18t april 18th. ♪ >> have you guys filed your taxes yet. >> yes. >> we have. >> i actually did it not too long ago. >> ever wonder what might happen if you don't file. >> yeah, what happens. >> stepped i was letter. they come after you. >> they lock you up, i don't know. >> what happens if you don't file your taxes? >> two things that happen essentially are interest and penalties. >> kevin is attacks attorney at white and williams in center city. he says you have to file and pay by april 18th or get hit with two separate fines. >> failure to file penalty is 5% of the unpaid liability per month up to a total of 25%. failure to pay penalty is one half of 1% per month on the unpaid liability. that's pretty brutal. >> i don't owe so never knew that. >> failure to file is fraudulent. the penalty increases to 15% a month up to 75% of what he owe.

>> scary. this is why we pay o on time. >> how long do you think it takes before the irs tracks you down? >> six months. >> i guess, what, a year. >> i'd say three years. >> it's not immediate. usually it takes several months. maybe a year. >> jail time is reserved for only the worst cases of fraud but don't expect to get off ea easy. >> irs puts a lean on assets. they could garnish payments that are owed to you. >> uncle sam will get his money. >> that's right. >> you can't avoid taxes. >> the only certainty in life other than death. >> death and taxes, yup. >> death and taxes. there you go. if you can't make the apri april 18th deadline there's the option to file an extension that doesn't mean you won't be penalized. if you owe money you still face that failure to pay penalty which again is one half of 1 percent of what you owe every month until you pay up. they will find you. >> they'll find you. >> they'll get their money. >> eventually uncle sam gets paid. >> uncle sam does not delay.

battle in brooklyn as hillary clinton and senator bernie sanders debate ahead of next week' new york primary. most polls show hillary clinton with a lead there. tonight' december bait took on feisty tone. sanders pushed clinton on the iraq war, clinton hit sanders back on breaking up the banks. >> let us talk about the worst foreign policy blunder in the modern history of this country. i led the opposition to that w war. secretary clinton voted for th that. >> senator sanders long interview with the new york daily news, talk about judgment and talk about the kinds of problems he had answering questions about even his core issue, breaking up the banks when asked he could not explain how that would be done. >> 291 delegates are up for grabs in new york on the democratic side. meanwhile hillary clinton has a 10-point lead over republican frontrunner donald

trump in a possible november general election matchup. according to new cbs news poll. clinton hold three-point lead over ted cruz and trails john kasich by six points however bernie sans beats all of the republican candidates. he holds 17-point lead over donald trump, 10-point lead over cruz and five-point lead over kasich. >> a pilot flying over cape cod beach is captured stunning images. miles and miles of gray and harbor seals basking in the spring sun. it's not unusual to see seals there this time of year. what is unusual is seeing that many of them. just hundreds and hundreds. the seal population increased over the years because they're now federally protected from being hunted. before the marine mammal protection act went into effect in 1972, sightings of even a single seal were rare. tonight's taste with tori viewer chris winger suggest we try out an irish pub in northeast philly. the food is wonderful and the

not this december because it felt like spring in december. january, february you start to think of those days when it's in the 60s and the 70s with sunshine. we've got that kind of forecast headed our way into the weekend let's get right to it take a look first at a time lapsed video from today. what a beautiful day it was at the beach patrol headquarters in margate almost looks like a great beach day not quite warm enough to park your beach chair on the sand just yet. nice day for a walk on the beach. right now it's 39 degrees in margate. the shore communities will stay cooler through the weekend thanks to on shore wind ocean water temperatures still quite cold this time of the year and that will influence some of that cooling that will make it on shore but thanks to big dome of high pressure centered over the midwest and the northeast. we're keeping any bad weather at bay here for the next several days even right through next week. any rain diverted to the north and also kept to the south suppressed to the south here where it in a bubble so to speak protected from any bad weather when you get into a pattern like this a blocking pattern it's similar to the one we had back

in march when we self days in the 80s. remember really nasty flood that took place over portions of the mississippi valley they get the bad stuff. we got the good stuff and we're stuck in an extended good pattern once again this week. so temperatures right now still 50 in philadelphia. but do notice some of our outlying suburbs especially south jersey already falling into the upper 30s and so a frost advisory is in effect. it includes all of south jersey really much of energy new jersey in general. all of southeastern pennsylvania and new castle county, delaware, that goes until 8:00 o'clock tomorrow morning all the ingredients to make frost clear skies, light winds, lows in the mid to upper 30s especially in the colder spots and surfaces below freezing tonight. so do watch for some frost if you have any plants or any flowers that you just want to keep around a little longer cover them up to name it won't be widespread frost but patchy through the overnight hours. gradual warming trend as we head through the weekend monday when it peaks notice a system just offshore that's going to kite cooler along the coast. then watch what happens tuesday

and wednesday. some of thighs cooler air starts to back in from new england we talked about this before. it's called a back door cool front you will feel the temperatures start to drop little next tuesday and wednesday but in the meantime next few days sunny and dry, cool in the morning. nice in the afternoon and a gorgeous weekend the one negative if there is one negative pollen counts very very high and rising through the weekend if you ever an allergy sufferer you'll need the meds for the next couple of days. overnight clear skies, areas of frost forming. 42 will be your low. tomorrow looks great. seasonal, sunny sky, light winds, 64. and take look at all this sunshine. 67 degrees on saturday. 72 on sunday. monday we're up to 77 and then gets a little cooler tuesday and wednesday but, hey, still pretty nice. like i said this is wait feel like to be a meteorologist in san diego. >> how about it? giving good news. >> beautiful every day. >> all very mild. >> we'll take it. >> thanks kate. >> lesley what's coming up next in sports. i wash i had better news. heavy hearts the flyers head to the playoffs taking on the best

game one of the flyers and capitals we knew this would be a good tough series. tonight's game did not disappoint. sean taking a hit right here from alexander ovechkin he had to leave the game favoring his shoulder. no official word on the extent of his injury. there are reports he's done for the season. one to nothing caps. to the third period the capitals again. this time it is jay beagle. flyers play a tough game. steve mason making 29 safes but not enough. flyers lose two to nothing.

it may be april but tonight the nfl gave us a chance to think about fall eagles 2016 schedule is out. two of the first three games right here on cbs3. we'll start off the season with the cleveland browns on cbs then eagles steelers on septembe september 25th again on cbs3. early bye for the birds back to back nfc east games on the road the end of october early november cowboys and giants. november 20th eagles and seahawks will face off on cbs. and the birds will play the thursday before christmas. to the phillies and this season was supposed to be watching the phillies develop. returns from cole hamels and ken giles trades would perform. vince val lasques proved he's not only fun to watch he's very good. let's talk about this guy the big piece ryan howard with the homerun looking good. early going of the game. third homer of the year.
