assaying it will provide long overdue medical relief to patients, and their families. with the govern owes a's signature, pennsylvania will be the 24th state the to legalize marijuana for medical purposes. well, volunteers with the democratic national convention in philadelphia to this summer will have to go through background checks. today the philadelphia host committee began seeking requests for proposals for an experienced security firm to conduct the vetting process. 10,000 volunteers have registered to help out during the convention. a special program is helping philadelphia high school students students learn more about the electoral process run by the committee of 70 called the election ambassador program. students at simon gratz high learned about it today. in 2015 more 400 students participated, and they have assisted voters with questions about voters about questions and they conduct exit surveys. tens of millions of dollars just sitting around waiting to be cashed out to philadelphians who qualify this tax season. sound too good to be true but

"eyewitness news" reporter david spunt joins us from our satellite center with what you need to know, david. >> reporter: good news, tax day is monday so you have a little bit of the extension this year. the earned income tax credit could benefit tens of thousands of philadelphians. the problem is not many people know about it. >> don't be scared to ask for help. >> reporter: north philadelphia resident lea padilla hates paying taxes, every april, she cringes. >> i'm always fearful that i willow something. >> reporter: but this year the single mom with the full-time job got quite the surprise. when she learned that the government would pay her, about $3,000. >> i talked to people who are like really, you can get that? if you are eligible. >> reporter: thanks to the earned income tax credit, padilla and about 40,000 other philadelphians qualified. >> this is crucial. they need to a reply. >> reporter: city councilman a allen dumb has made it his mission to tell people about the earned income tax c he
