into developing right now at 11:00 a philadelphia police officers is shot sin the lining of duty. this is alive look at the scene on the corner of 59th and market street in west philadelphia. good evening everyone i'm natasha brown thank you so much for joining us. this shooting happened about two hours ago the officer is hospitalled at penn presbyterian. craig argos has been following the details all night for us, greg. >> reporter: natasha grandparent evening we just heard from commissioner, he tells us the injured officer is a two year veteran of the philadelphia police department. he was shot in the left leg currently in stable condition here at penn presbyterian hospital. this all happened around nine o'clock tonight at the intersection of market and 59th street that's when the officer 24 year old james mccullough was approached by a woman who said two men were trying to steal her

karma cul la and his partner went up when the that's when one of the suspects opened fire. shot in the left leg like i mentioned once again he is currently in stable condition. take a listen to how police commissioner ross explained what happened and how mccullough may have safed his own life. >> as they approached the two males exited the vehicle they started to run officer mccullough tackled one of the males almost instantly he was shot in his left leg. the male got up and started running northbound on so you farred street. officer mccullough pursued him and fired three times. that mail continued knobbed where he escaped very briefly. at this time, officer mccullough is in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his left thigh. it is important to pont out that he applied a tourniquet himself

cbsphilly.com and tomorrow morning beginning at 4:30 am. police have identified the manning accused of shooting and killing a four year old in kensington at maurice phillips. he shot the little girl yesterday in a home. he told investigators that the girl's five year old sibling was playing with a gun when it went off. he later admitted he was the one holding the weapon and said it was an accident. he now faces charges including third degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. 82 john more tragedy in he kensington today after a triple shooting a 46 year old man shot four people killing three of them before barricade ding himself. it all started around 3:45 am. when police received a phone call. east westmoreland street. a short time later another call came about a shooting a block away. that's where police found two men and a woman shot in the head. neighbors say they are still
