"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live at penn presbyterian medical center to bring us up to date on the investigation and the officer's condition. >> brooke, jim, good morning, that's right. two men now in custody and

philadelphia police are searching for a third suspect, involved in last night's altercation. meanwhile, here at penn presbyterian this morning, this officer who was shot is now recovering. he's list in the stable condition, although he lost a lot of blood, he is expected to survive. take a look at the video. this officer was shot right around 9:00 last night near the intersection of 59th and market street in west philadelphia. it all started when a woman flagged down 24 year old officer james mccullough and his partner. she told them two men were trying to steel her car. now, as the officers approached, the two suspect got out that far car and took off. police say officer mccullough tackled one of the men, was immediately shot in the leg. as that suspect ran away again, police say officer mccullough returned fire, shooting three times. now, those two suspect were eventually caught by other officers. officer mccullough meanwhile applied a torn kit to himself which helped save his live. take a listen. >> office remembers trained with tornquist, many of them,

and they have saved so many lives, the classic case would have been with the train derailment last year, widespread usage of it then, but they are using it rather frequently. so they're task with doing a lot of things now they weren't before. but in this instance, was able to help him, as well. >> philly police are just relieved that he's expected to make a full recovery. now, officer mccullough has been with the philadelphia police department for two years, and he also has a two year old daughter and is engaged. meanwhile again police is her clinic for that third suspect, he is described as having short dredlocks, and wearing a black hoodie, white emblem on the shoulder and white writing on the back. anyone with information is asked to call police. we are reporting live outside pen presbyterian this morning, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news", jim, brooke, back into you. >> thanks very much, jan. >> knew this morning, search for gunman who shot three people in west oaklane early this morning. twenty-nine year old man in critical condition. and a 19 year old, and 35 year old, are both in stable

condition. the last two victims are being interviewed by detective. police say, the victims were taken to einstein hospital, by a private car. and that car also had bullet holes in it. >> police have identified the man accused of shooting and killing a four year old, in kensington. investigators say, maurice phillips shot the girl saturday, in a east mayfield street home. police say he told them it was an accident. at first he allegedly told investigators the girl's five year old sibling was playing with the gun when it went off. phillips now faces charges including third degree murder and inch volume un tear manslaughter. >> in other news, fire fight is her injured overnight, battling a house fire in upper darby. this is new video of the aftermath of the two alarm fire on ardmore avenue, we're told the house is under renovation, but investigators aren't sure what sparked the fire. one firefighter was treated for a sprained ankle. after a long political battle, medical marijuana now legal in pennsylvania. "eyewitness news" was in harrisburg, as governor tom

wolf signed the bill into law yesterday. the law covers 17 conditions that can be treated using medical marijuana including seizures, als, cancer and chronic pain. lawmakers expect it will take up to two years to implement a medical marijuana program. but, a provisional asked par don't use medical cannibis to treat kids foray proved conditions within a month. >> one of arrived co-cats posted she lost her son, so our heart are very heavy knowing if we didn't get here in time. >> pennsylvania is now the 24th state to legalize medical marijuana, but it is still illegal under federal law. >> well, athletes are getting ready to start the 120th annual boston marathon today. this is the third marathon since the 2013 bombings that killed three people and injured hundreds more. >> don champion live near the finish line in boston where run remembers preparing for tightened security this morning, good morning, don. >> reporter: yes, good

morning, bribing and jim. the marathon will get underway at 8: 50, this morning, about a million people will line the entire route and given the fact that the terrorist attacks in paris and brussels all happen within the past few months, police here are not letting their guard down today. on the eve of the iconic boston marathon, workers painted the symbolic blue line that guides runners to the finish line. along the 26.2-mile route, police will be forming a blue line of their own. >> we have a lot of undercover officers working the crowds. we have bomb sniffing dogs. any marathon, when you cover that amount of distance, unfortunately, you can never say the whole is secure. >> boston police commissioner ran the 2013 race, when two terrorists set off pressure cooker bombs near the finish line killing three people. patrick downs lost a leg in the bombing. today he'll run the marathon for the first time with his prosthetic leg, raising money for student with physical

disabilities along the way. >> we want to help to ensure that other people with disability are also celebrated, so the obstacles that they've overcome. >> many runners had to qualify, some same the way the city came together after the bombings inspired them to be here. >> it is because that happened, we're not going to stop. we're not going to stop running. that's not going to be the end of this race. >> richard crossed the finish line two minute before the bombing, and he says, today is about moving forward. >> let's celebrate the fact that we're alive, that we're running, and that there is more good in this world than evil. >> 30,000 run letters take part in the race. >> and just to gave you a idea of the security challenge that awaits boston police today, it is patriots day here in boston, huge celebrations all around, and the red sox will be playing before a crowd of about 40,000 people. about a mile away from here. jim, brooke, it is important to note, though, that

authorities say there is no actionable or credible threat against the marathon. >> very good to know. don, i know this year also marks the special anniversary for the women in the boston marathon. >> reporter: yes, it marks the 50th anniversary of the first woman completing the boston marathon back in 1966, bobby gibbs completed the marathon, and she actually did so by sneaking into the race by wearing her brother's shorts and hiding her ponytail in a hoodie. she will be serving as the grand marshall of the race today. get this, jim, brooke, more than 14,000 women will be running the marathon here today. >> oh, that's an awesome story. thanks a lot, don. >> any procrastinators out there? today is the last day to file your tax. >> well the irs expect more than 5 million returns will be filed just today, now, if you are still crunching the numbers, you have until midnight tonight to file or request six month extension. but remember, even if you ask for an extension, you still have to pay any taxes you owe by today.

monday to you, the schuylkill taillights moving in the eastbound direction, you can see, looking good here, steady in the eastbound direction, westbound looks nice and quiet. this is before the blue route, this is exactly what we want to see on what we know will be a busy monday morning. the vine at 95, casino of birds eye view for those of you on 95 moving out of the schuylkill, looking good. we look at this picture, kind of gives you overview whatever we are looking at so far this morning. in the 5:00 hour. on a busy monday, and overall, things are actually looking real nice this morning. boulevard, headlights moving in the southbound direction, at fox street, this is another area where i can keep my eye on looking good, both directions bayly anywhere we look this morning is looking pretty good. i want to draw your attention to line painting project might slow you down. so take note of this. what we've got going on, just between 99:00 and 3:00 p.m. so today, tomorrow, between nine a.m. and 3:00 p.m., it will be the blue route between the turnpike and nine # a, that entire stretch, use caution there, then wednesday, through friday, it is going to be the schuylkill, and then on friday it will be the vine. so you certainly want it drive

with caution as we are going to be having some wet paint out there. make note of. that will and some construction delaware, route 896 southbound near denny road. right lane blocked until about 5:30, jim, brooke, back to you. >> thank you so much, meisha a well, rescue efforts continue in ecuador this morning after powerful earthquake kills more than 200 people. five people including two children were recently pulled from the rubble. the 7.8 quake was centered about 100 miles northwest of keith owe. correspondent manuel with more on rescue operations. >> near the epi-center in the pacific town, rescuers dug through crumbled concrete, only to find lifeless bodies. the quake also claimed lives about 85 miles south in the coastal city of mana. desperate worker tries sticking, dig withing his bear hands, to find survivors. three are alive, and a girl is dead, he said. onlookers cheered as this teenager was pulled from a crushed hotel in the city.

this appears to be the moment the quake hit. customers in this store in quito panicked, it knocked items off the shelves being took out electricity saturday night. as far as 150 miles south of the epi-center the powerful quake called buildings and roads in the city thereto collapse. first responders search for survivors after highway overpass buckled, flattening cars. ecuador deployed thousands of soldiers to help people like vanessa santos. she says her sister, sister-in-law, and nephew, were killed. manuel, cbs news, dallas. >> meanwhile in japan, us troops are a significance disaster relief efforts following two big quakes there. you can see survivors being rescued in this video from the southern part of the country. the earthquakes killed more than 40 people, and injured 1500 other.
