>> ♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> it is the final weekend push before primary day and the presidential candidates are crisscrossing the northeast. the campaign trail brings a former president to the delaware valley.

bill clinton made a couple of stops today to stump for his wife hillary. good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. it is a star-studded day on the campaign trail. familiar faces are helping the candidates to get o it the vote. our coverage begins tonight with "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan. he's live in ambler montgomery county where bill clinton appeared today. cleve. >> reporter:. natasha, it's amazing how fast they can break down from one of these events but less than an hour ago almost 500 people were here in the wissahickon middle school gym to hear former president bill clinton. now, this wasn't just a random spot. president clinton trying help now presidential candidate hillary clinton do better in the philly suburbs than when she ran for president back in 2008. >> we cannot afford a right wing supreme court and right wing congress and a right wing president. the country cannot afford it. we've got to grow together and we've got to live together and we've got to be citizens together. >> reporter: president clinton made his first speech of the day at the swarthmore rutledge school and stumping for his wife some of his main

points are equal pay for women and creating manufacturing as well as small business jobs. near ambler, there was another main theme, stopping gun violence. before clinton spoke former congresswoman gaby giffords took the stage. she of course survived an assassination attempt in 2011 and is the leading voice for gun control. back in 2008 hillary clinton had mixed results in the philly suburbs losing in chester and delaware counties and narrowly winning here in montgomery county by just about 200 votes over senator barack obama. mr. clinton is hoping to improve his wife's favor among democrats. >> i think hillary should be the next president for three reasons. one, she's got the best ideas on the economy. two, she's got the best ideas on how to take down the barriers that keep all americans from participating. and three, she's the best person to implement it because she's the only candidate who's qualified to deal with the challenges the next president

will face the minute the oath of office is administered around the world and at home. (applause). >> reporter: president clinton had some critical references towards republican frontrunner donald trump but speaking about the democratic rival bernie sanders he will nothing but compliments other than to say all his ideas or at least some of them won't work. in ambler, i'm cleve bryan, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> chief, thank you very much. also hillary clinton campaigned in new haven connecticut today. the democratic frontrunner held a round table event with working families to discuss the need to raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour. clinton also discussed her policy proposals to provide equal pay for women. local supporters of bernie sanders marched to philadelphia city hall today. this is all part of an 11th hour push to get out the vote for tuesday's primary. just a short time ago the vermont senator hosted a rally in wilmington, delaware. >> and if you look at the matchup, the matchup holes

between donald trump and myself, we are beating him in every instance. [cheers and applause] >> bernie sanders is scheduled to campaign again in philadelphia on monday. again, just ahead of the all important tuesday primary. also on the republican side of things, ted cruz takes his campaign to western pennsylvania. he rallied with supporters at a school in monroeville a suburb just outside of pittsburgh. now, cruz focused on presenting himself as the best republican candidate to beat hillary clinton in the fall. >> we've seen the pattern. usually they talk good on the campaign trail. and then they get in office and betray us. well, i have to give donald credit he's betraying us before he gets elected. >> cruz trailing by double digits donald trump in the state of pennsylvania. trump made two campaign stops in connecticut today. he told supporter there is in

bridgeport that he had no plans to tone down his rhetoric and that his gop rivals should just give up. >> now we're down to two. i call it one and a half. i now actually call it one because i call it a half and a half 'cause they're both out. it's one. >> ohio governor john kasich is campaigning meantime rhode island just ahead of that state's april 26th primary. he held a town hall at bryant university in smith field and said he remains confident in his campaign despite trailing now in the delegates needed to secure the republican nomination. >> i think we're optimistic about what the future holds for us in terms of the convention but then i'll find -- if it doesn't work then i'll find another purpose. >> kasich will return to his hometown mckees rock pennsylvania for another town hall event on monday. of course stay with us for continuing coverage of all of the area primaries for pennsylvania and the delaware primaries are this tuesday and new jersey's primary is coming

up on june 7th. developing now, the search is on for a gunman who police say abducted a woman and sexually assaulted her in west philadelphia. the woman told police she was forced into the suspect's car near 49th and lancaster around 4 o'clock this morning. she says she was then tied up and sexually assaulted. the victim was able to free herself about 3 o'clock this afternoon at 57th and large wood. police say the suspect has dreadlocks and a long beard. they are still continuing to investigate at this hour. and a very rude awakening for residents in one south philadelphia community. they woke up to find tires slashed on more than a dozen vehicles. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh shows us all the damage and explains what led police to a suspect. >> reporter: flat tire after flat tire. >> i thought there was something broken on the road. >> reporter: but police say these were no accidents. >> it's such a shame. there's no benefit to anyone. all it does is inconvenience

people. >> reporter: police say a man slashed the tires of 13 cars including a ymca bus on 17th and christian streets overnight. >> it's really surprising and disappointing to be honest. >> reporter: police got the call around 2:00 a.m. and by early afternoon the inconvenience still lingered for some neighbors. >> i feel really badly for the people that are going to come and wake up to this this morning, have someplace to go and they're not going to be able to get there. >> reporter: one woman whose back tire was slashed told us she was too overwhelmed to speak on camera as she mauled a crew to help hall her car to the shop. police say they found a suspect nearby and also found a kitchen knife on the scene but they don't yet have a motive. reporting in south philadelphia, i'm anita oh, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> a manhunt is now under way for the suspect who killed eight members of one family in ohio. investigators say they have received an overwhelming number of tips but no one has been arrested just yet. the victims include seven adults and a 16-year-old boy.

authorities say most of them were shot execution style as they were sleeping on friday. an infant and two other small children were not harmed. a community in georgia is also in shock after five people were found shot to death inside their home. the discoveries were made on friday night. authorities quickly identified wayne hawes as the suspected gunman in this case. he was later found dead inside his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. investigators believe the violence was sparked by a domestic dispute. and crowds continue to pay their respects outside of the minnesota home of legendary pop superstar prince. the singer born prince rogers nelson was found dead inside his paisley park mansion on thursday. he was 57 years old. an autopsy was conducted yesterday but authorities say it could be weeks now before an exact cause of death is released. president obama made history on the golf course in britain today. that story is coming up for

>> welcome back. president obama and britain's prime minister david cameron played golf in london today. this is day two of the president's trip to europe. the president took that's right a town hall style meeting. he urged britain to support a new trade deal between the u.s. and the european union. now the president says the deal will help improve workers' rights and environmental standards. and take a look. president obama's trip to england wasn't all business. the duke and duchess of cambridge streeted him and the first lady to dinner at their home in kensington palace. young prince george was allowed to stay up a little past his bedtime to greet the president and the first lady. the young royal was dressed in his tiny bathrobe. he spent about 15 minutes visiting with the grownups and staying up a little later than normal. a local chain will be bringing their food lincoln financial field this eagles season and what better way to celebrate than an eating

in. you look outside the rain is coming down just roll over a little bit. now that the evening is can coming you can get out on the town enjoy your saturday night because the sunshine is returning and getting a live look at center city philadelphia nice blue skies in the scene there, 66 degrees your current temperature. winds have picked up on the backside of a cold front. now winds out of the north up around 18 miles per hour. and that is going to drive some cooler air in as we head into the evening and overnight tonight but of course the story this morning was some rainfall. a little bit of rainfall, very light in intensity and our doppler estimates picking up just about .10 of an inch, most spots a quarter of an inch in parts of delaware with this recent rain event but as we head into the night we'll continue to dry things out. dry has been the trend for spring so far. our april rainfall deficit compared to average is now over an inch and a quarter and since march first we're down over 3-inches of rainfall so we do need the rain went need that to kind of green everything up as we continue into the spring season but we're not going to get it as we led into tonight storm

scan3 showing us the last of the shower activity moving off shore over the last three hours. the cloud deck also decreasing center city and surrounding suburbs. still some clouds across parts of southern new jersey. those will try to clear out over the next several hours and then upwind nothing but clear skies as the inclement weather continues to move off to the south and east and that will set us up for a nice quiet and sunny sunday. temperatures right now are still on the mild side. 66 degrees in philly, 71 in allentown. we're still in the upper 60's in a.c. but now that that cold front has cleared and we've seen the wind shift out of the north that is going drive that cooler air in over the next several hours and we have a breeze kicking. wind speeds about 15 to 20 miles per hour with higher gusts. combine that breeze with temperatures that will be cooling pretty quickly over the next several hours and it will kind of be a chilly night so plan for that maybe bring an extra layer if you're heading out this evening 'cause it's going to feel a lot different overnight tonight 43 degrees, that north wind up around 10 to 15 miles per hour with some higher gusts. a chilly start to our sunday

but by the afternoon beautiful can conditions for all of your outdoor plans. perfect outdoor brunch weather. sunshine, 66 degrees and much lighter wind speeds as we head into tomorrow afternoon but as i mentioned over the next several hours temperatures will be dropping very efficiently. by around midnight temperatures falling into the 40's in the lehigh valley, nearing the 40's in center city philadelphia and then overnight tonight waking up tomorrow morning o waking up to 30's and 40's west of the city, down into the 40's in the city and down the shore temperatures dropping off below that 50-degree mark but as i mentioned as we head into the day tomorrow, under all of that sunshine, dry air in place that is going to help warm us up very efficiently so as we head into the day tomorrow and into monday, two more rounds of sunshine and temperatures are going to start to warm up pretty quickly as we head into monday, return flow around our area of high pressure that will be off to the east and we'll keep it in the 70's as we head into tuesday but you are going to need that umbrella as you're heading out to the polls. in pennsylvania and delaware

for the primaries showers and some afternoon thunderstorms but temperatures certainly not a problem at 73 degrees. but we kind of go back and forth between sunshine and showers as we head into the next several days. there's your rain chance on primary tuesday. wednesday we're back to sunshine and some 60's. very seasonable as we head into thursday we're back up to 70 degrees. we bring that rain chance back. rain chance on friday. back to sunshine on saturday. so, it's really either sunny skies or showers . >> [laughter] is there any other choice. >> no, that's it, there's no split in the middle. >> thank you so much, lauren we appreciate that. let's go flyers. >> yeah, flyers in game six tomorrow at the center in game six. the reason there will be a game six is michal neuvirth unbelievable last night against washington. it was shooting gallery for the caps and michael stood tall 44 saves which is a playoff record for him. flyers had a hard time generating any offense just 11 shots their worst offensive output in team history but thanks to neuvirth the flyers

shut out the caps two-nothing. they'll have to play better tomorrow. >> it was an amazing game. everybody bounce was going my way. >> the way they played last game i think -- i think we can't let ourselves play another game like that. neuvi got us a win. >> we're not going to play like we played last night. we had one unbelievable performance and that was from michael and we fully intend to go out there tomorrow night and have, you know, a way better game, hundred percent better game. >> phillies so far this season have been offensively challenged. they're the lowest scoring team in baseball. last night in milwaukee the bats were hot. morton hopes he'll get the same support in game two. last night aaron nola went seven innings giving up a run on four hits and struck out seven.

>> a solar powered airplane on an around the world journey is traveling across the pacific ocean. it took off from hawaii on thursday. its destination on this leg of the journey is mountain view, california. now the aircraft started its journey he in march of 2015 from the united arab emirate. it's expected to land tonight. and a camera lens that was on the moon has sold at auction for big, big bucks actually. the lens was used by astronaut dave scott during the apollo 15 moon mission back in 1971. that was a good year. scott who owned the lens until selling it at auction says the lens was an integral part of the camera used in the four lunar missions. the camera was used to take nearly 300 photos on the lunar surface and orbit. the lens was sold for more than $450,000.
