"eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter was there as davies return to the job that he loves and the emotional chance encounter on his first day back. >> i was excited. here i am, i'm back. >> reporter: 993 days after a bullet slammed into his body inside of a feltonville store

as he for the with the armed robber, officer ed davies return to the force. >> how are you doing, buddy. >> thank you so much. >> i didn't want to have him win more or less when he shot me. i wanted to come back on my terms. >> reporter: from the moment eric torres pulled that trigger point blank, it has been an agonizing journey for the officer. >> i remember hearing like a bang, i was like what was that? i remember i stood up and my chest and my stomach got really hot. i looked down and looked backup and said i got hit. >> reporter: after three weeks in the induced coma, 37 days in the icu, davies would finally be released, injuries so horrific, no one knew, moment to moment, if he was going to survive. >> four kids, and that is my wife, so that is all i thought about. that made me pull through. >> reporter: but 993 days ago, there was another hero, fellow officer seanty coupe shore

raced davies to the hospital arriving seconds before he would have died from blood loss and as davies showed me around his new work place suddenly his first day gotten better. there was officer cooper, who coincidently had been assigned there for a class. >> what did you think when you saw that face walking through the door here today. >> i was elated. >> reporter: so maybe spontaneous reunion of these two heroes provided the best answer have of all to my final question: why would someone who paid such a terrible price be so determined to return to his job protecting all of us. >> i always wanted to come back. i love the job. i love the guys. it the is just a family. >> reporter: big part of the officer davies assignment at police training center will be instructing new recruits, as recipient of the department's highest honor the valor award, it is hard to say anyone better suited to teach men and

women what it takes, to be a philadelphia police officer. live from the sat center i'm walt hunter for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> no question with that, walt, thank you. lets look at the weather and let's face it not the greatest start to may. kate bilo is in the weather center. kate, any better news. >> no, unfortunately not, jessica. we are tracking another round of rain, the good news is happening right now as you are looking outside you may be seeing some sunshine, briefly, once the sun goes down another round of rain will push through. you can see a few cloud right now. we are seeing breaks of sun not a bad evening right now but all week long we will be tracking more round have of rain moving through, some days just a few showers, other days, pretty heavy downpours. you can see rain heading toward us right the now we have a few nasty storms that popped up off to the south near d.c. and portions of eastern virginia. the these could impact delaware as we go through tonight, heavier rain comes through our area generally overnight with lingering showers into the first half of the day tomorrow. we will time it out, you can

see at 10:00 o'clock tonight scattered showers and heavy rain off to the west. starting around midnight heavy rain moves in and it will continue on and off all night long. rumbles of thunder, flashes of lightening as well that continues into tomorrow morning when you wake up. rain clears out but cloud will stick around through our tuesday afternoon. so for tonight, still a marginal risk for severe weather in delaware where they have had more sun today, still a general risk for stray thunderstorm here in the philadelphia area. biggest threat is off to the south as far as severe weather is concern. between now and midnight expect scattered showers and a possible thunderstorm but between midnight and 8:00 a.m. when worse of this next storm hits with heavy rain and threat for thunder, lightening, and also some patchy dense fog on the roads so please be safe. coming up we will time out rest of the rain this week and we will have good news as we head toward weekend, to you now, back over to you. philadelphia police continue to investigate what caused a deadly crash in east falls over the weekend. the it happened on sunday afternoon along the 5400 block of henry avenue.

police say of the three adults and four children in one car, only a infant was strapped in. a 20 year-old man and six year-old boy died from injuries sustained, in the crash. there is no way to know but certainly, if everyone was restrained, clearly there would be less severe injuries for sure and maybe not anybody killed. >> reporter: two people in the other car suffered leg injuries, police believe yesterday's wet weather was a factor in the crash. quick pedophile jerry sandusky appears in the central pennsylvania courtroom hoping for a new trial. >> read what has been written, and have courage to present it. >> that was sandusky on the the way into court, his defense team filed 33 issues with the original case, they are asking for an evidencery hearing which could force two dozen witnesses to testify and could lead to a new trial. his attorneys argued that sandusky did not the get a fair trial in 2012, largely because of his attorneys.

spoke at the first make the best of it bash. >> incredible how she handled the whole thing with such grace and such courage. >> reporter: tara's twin sister lauren says through a year of grueling treatments she always had a sense of humor wearing t-shirts that had funny things like this ain't my first rodeo or more issues than vogue. >> she has had such an impact that, you know, people don't get that for 29 years. so i got the that time. >> reporter: while they spent time at the beach lauren said they always used sun screen. tara's melanoma showed up with a bump behind her ear. >> it really captures tara's spirit. >> reporter: penn oncologist lynn, has a pillow that says life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass but about learning to dance in the rain. >> she's the most remarkable women, incredibly courageous, such a love for life. >> reporter: the doctor says when detect early melanomas curable but not for tara a even though she received all of the advanced treatments available, there are limits,

my advice get outside, put burgers on the grill, enjoy sun while we have it because it will be changing quite a bit, as we head through the next couple of days, mainly thanks to the system first and information mess heading our way as soon as tonight. this system you you can see it creeping in off to the south producing nasty weather around the nation's capitol this evening right down into eastern virginia as well. one storm here, a few you more around richmond toward hampton road area of veneer virginia beach, places like that. back to the west we have heavy rain into west virginia. this is all lifting our way. notice, it is on a set projectry toward our area lets focus on this storm near d.c. we had reports of the gulf ball sized hair here with this. this is a very strong storm, and it could eventually try to track into portions of maryland and even into delaware as well. we have to keep an eye on that. in the meantime we have more wet weather where that came from. more showers, lingering off to the west and our next storm for later in the week is this one, doesn't look like much of

anything over central canada but that will get here thursday and friday and bring another threat for rain. highs to take we got to 69 in millville and atlantic city. cooler north where we had less sunshine. look at how warm just off to the south. d.c. 79. richmond 84. any spot with the heat are spots in the biggest threat zone for severe weather through this evening. we will get into heavy rain here by midnight, raining heavily with strong lightening and thunder possible with these storms even some dense fog. that then clears out tomorrow have afternoon but cloud will continue, scattered showers throughout the day wednesday, wednesday not a wash out but then another system rotating in that one in canada that one get here by thursday and that storm will just sit overhead right through the end of the week. through next several days we have rain chances, in all of them. 80 percent chance tomorrow. mainly in the morning. wednesday 30 percent chance and back to 70 percent chance of rain both thursday and friday. overnight showers, thunderstorm, heavy rain is possible. 56 degrees your overnight low. we will start your tuesday
