it's tuesday, may 3rd, 2016. this is "cbs morning news." holding out hope in the hoosier state with donald trump and hillary clinton pulling closer to their party's nomination, ted cruz and bernie sanders stage last-ditch attempts at delegates. a woman is awarded $55 million after a jury finds a link between a popular product and ovarian cancer. from worst to first. long-shot leicester city shocks the world, winning the english premier league championship for the first time in club history.

and gala glam. celebrities marvel in metallics at the met gala. the sights and sounds from the outrageous red carpet. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. both hillary clinton and donald trump are looking for knockout wins in today's indiana primary. the hoosier state appears to be ted cruz's last real chance to stop donald trump from winning the gop nomination outright. for democrats, indiana's open primary may be a chance for bernie sanders to notch another win, but hillary clinton already has more than 90% of the delegates that she needs to clinch the nomination. while trump needs just 242 more delegates to climplg the gop nomination. we have more from indianapolis. >> if we win indiana, it's over. >> reporter: with 57 delegates up for grabs, a big victory in

indiana would all but seal the republican nomination for donald trump. he's currently only 244 delegates away from clinching it. >> now i'm going to start focusing on hillary. that's going to be so easy. >> reporter: the latest poll shows donald trump has a 15-point lead over ted cruz in indiana. cruz had five stops alone on monday. his goal is to deny trump delegates and force a contested convention. >> the entire country is depending on the state of indiana to pull us back from this cliff. >> reporter: in the democratic race, bernie sanders rallied supporters here in indianapolis. he's in a virtual tie with hillary clinton in indiana, where 92 delegates are at stake, but clinton has a commanding lead nationally. that's because the super delegates, party leaders who can commit to either candidate, are overwhelmingly backing clinton. sanders is asking them to reconsider. >> i know that by far bernie sanders is the strongest

candidate to defeat donald trump. >> i really do want to just get into it. >> reporter: clinton spent the day campaigning in kentucky and west virginia, where voters go to the polls later this month. cbs news, indianapolis. >> and we'll have more on the indiana primary when we talk with john heilemann, managing editor of bloomberg politics. that's coming up on "cbs this well, another strong storm system is moving from the southeast up the atlantic coast this morning. heavy rain, thunder, and hail is possible from the gulf coast to the northeast today. a bolt of lightning struck just behind the capitol last night. look at that. the weather system moved across north carolina yesterday, where powerful winds knocked a large tree through the roof of a house in greensboro. detroit's public school teachers will not be on the job again today. a sick out over money began yesterday, shutting down most of the city school system. michigan's governor says the move is not constructive. the teachers union plans to

rally later today. thousands of detroit teachers walked off the job monday in a wage dispute, forcing 94 out of 97 city schools to close and leaving more than 47,000 students out of class. ivy bailey is the interim teachers union president. >> june the 30th. we're being told our school system is basically broke. >> the sick out was called because the city schools are expected to run out of cash july 1st. no money for teachers, no funding for summer school or special education programs. detroit school district, which has delap tated buildings, some crawling with mold and infested with rodents, has been in debt for several years now, staying afloat by asking for short-term loans from the state. it now owes $3.5 billion. michigan state legislators are debating the merit of a bailout package that could tide the teachers over this summer. but right now the money isn't

there. >> they need to put themselves in our shoes. they need to act like they're a parent and their child goes to detroit public schools. what type of school system would you want your child going to? >> the schools are hardly detroit's only problem. for the last few days, thousands of people lined up here to make sure they're not deprived of a basic necessity, water. starting today at 8:00 a.m., detroit, a city of 700,000 people, will turn off the tap for the 20,000 households which still have not paid their water bill and chosen not to take advantage of payment plans the city is offering. 53-year-old fay paul lost her nursing job last year, and a bad hip has left her immobile, unable to work, and to pay off her $1800 water bill. >> i have destitute. i feel like i'm in a third world country. well, johnson & johnson has been ordered to pay tens of millions of dollars after losing a talc cancer lawsuit.

a south dakota jury orded them to pay $55 million to a woman who says the use of talcum powder caused her ovarian cancer. it is the second such case johnson & johnson has lost. in a statement, johnson & johnson said, unfortunately heroic the jury's decision goes against 30 years of studies by medical experts around the world that continue to support the safety of cosmetic talc. the company says is will appeal. and it may take months if not years to sort out prince's estate. five of prince's six siblings were in court yesterday. prince died last month apparently without leaving a will. a special administrator has been appointed to manage prince's assets. >> all the attorneys met with the judge in his private chambers to discuss the lay of th land. we were all quite pleased. >> aside from his home, prince's assets include his music catalog, said to be worth more than half a billion dollars. that doesn't include unreleased

music. the zika virus may spread sfurt into the u.s. than first thought. at first, it was thought to be carried by a mosquito generally found in the south. now it's been found in another mosquito found as far north as connecticut, maine, and minnesota. so far, there are have been no cases of mosquito born cases in the u.s. the first passengers to sail from the u.s. to cuba in some 40 kbreers began their second day of an eight-day visit this morning. carnival cruise's adonia arrived in havana yesterday after a 17-hour crossing of the florida states. the trip became possible when cuban-american relations improved in 2014. 15 cuban-americans made the trip. fans of a perennial underdog in british soccer are overjoyed this morning.

"the miami herald" -- prosecutors say james medina brought what he thought was a bomb from an undercover agent. court papers show no link between the suspect and any international militant group. cleveland.com reports that a gazebo where tamir rice was fatally shot by police might be preserved. demolition was delayed after a request from the smithsonian. it's discussing options for preserving the gazebo given its importance to african-american history. 12-year-old rice was killed in 2014 after police thought the toy gun he was carrying was real. "the tennessean" reports that employees of public universities are now allowed to carry guns on campuses in the state. the governor let the bill become law yesterday without his signature. weapons are still banned from stadiums, gyms, and personnel meetings. "the tampa tribune" reports hulk

hogan is suing gawker again. he claims the website leaked sealed court documents that quote him making racist remarks. hogan won a verdict against gawker just last month because it posted a video of him having sex. and "variety" reports there truly is no rest for the wicked. at least not for those staging the musical of the same name. not so good news though. wait times at airports are expected to be longer this summer. airport officials blame a perfect storm of new procedures, more passengers, and shortages of money and staff. they edadvise allowing hours, n minutes, to get through check points during the peak travel season. on money watch, a popular instant message app is shut down in brazil. and an iced coffee controversy at starbucks. joe wagner is at the new york stock exchange with more. >> stocks rebounded after last week's big tech selloff. the dow gained 117 points. the s&p rose 16. the nasdaq finished 42 points higher. a judge in brazil ordered wireless phone operators in the country to block whatsapp for 72 hours. that's the messaging service owned by facebook. officials accuse whatsapp of failing to turn over data on users for an investigation into organized crime.

whatsapp says it encrypts its messages to protect users' privacy and it doesn't have that information. prince and beyonce dominated this week's billboard album charts. beyonce's "lemonade" debuted at number one. the biggest week for an album this year. prince's albums had five of the top ten spots. "lemonade" is the sixth solo album from beyonce. 485,000 albums were sold. it was streamed 115 million times. meanwhile, the very best of prince, last week's number one, fell to second place, with 216,000 album sales and 3.6 million streams. if you're in the market for a virtual reality headset, the oculus rift will be available at best buy and online at amazon and microsoft beginning this friday. oculus decided to make a small number of headsets available while it tries to catch up on preorders. they've run into supply problems due to a shortage of certain parts. and a chicago woman has

here's another look at this morning's top stories. a convincing win in today's indiana primary by donald trump could effectively end the race for the gop presidential nomination. the latest polls show trump with a big lead. the democratic race appears to be neck and neck, but hillary clinton still has more than 90% of the delegates needed to clinch her party's nomination. and biggest celebrities attended last night's gala at new york's metropolitan museum of art. guests are given strict instructions on the dress code, and the gala raises money for the met's costume institute. the zika virus has been discovered in a second kind of mosquito. dr. john lah puke has more.

>> reporter: it was cloudy and cool in connecticut today, but phil armstrong was thinking about warm weather and mosquitos. he heads up mosquito surveillance for the state of connecticut. the cdc says the main species that carries zika could extend into connecticut this summer. but armstrong is more concerned about another species, known as the asian tiger mosquito. about two weeks ago for the first time during the current outbreak, the virus was found in these mosquitos in mexico. that species is very common in connecticut. >> in the last five years, the number have increased substantially. the numbers are still relatively low compared to other mosquitos we have in the state, but the trends are that mosquito is increasing. >> reporter: armstrong says mosquito season in connecticut ramps up in june. >> the way it attracts mos key -- >> reporter: that's when special traps will catch them, and his
