landslides buries families and homes, with the death toll climbing. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom from the cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. hillary clinton cannot shake bernie sanders. clinton appears to have barely edged sanders in the kentucky primary, but sanders won in oregon. clinton, the likely winner in kentucky, called for party unity. sanders was declared the winner in liberal-leaning oregon less than an hour after the polls closed. donald trump, running unopposed, won the republican primary in oregon. including last night's results, clinton needs less than 100 more delegates to clinch the nomination. the same is true for donald trump. hena daniels is here in new york. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. despite clinton calling for party unity, an unapologetic

sanders is pressing forward with his campaign. presumptive republican nominee donald trump added to his delegate count after an easy victory in oregon. if last night is any indication, bernie sanders isn't backing down. the vermont senator pulled off a narrow victory in oregon and had a message for those calling for him to give up his campaign for president. >> we are in until the last ballot is cast. [ applause ] >> reporter: in kentucky, hillary clinton appears to be the likely winner. the former secretary of state claimed victory on twitter and then thanked supporters for "having her back" in the state. sanders bashed her for not doing as well in kentucky this time around. >> where secretary clinton defeated barack obama by 250,000 votes in 2008, it appears tonight that we're going to end up with about half of the delegates from kentucky. [ cheers ] >> reporter: clinton is less than 100 delegates shy of

clinching the democratic nomination, making a general election match-up against donald trump even more certain. the presumptive gop nominee easily won oregon's uncontested republican primary last night. in a one-on-one interview with fox news host megyn kelly, he defended the tone of his campaign. >> if i were soft, if i were presidential, okay, i don't think i would have been successful. >> reporter: the presidential candidates now turn their attention to the remaining nominating contest, including the biggest prize -- california. hillary clinton is off the campaign trail again today, while bernie sanders continues his push in california. there are 475 delegates up for grabs in the golden state's june 7th primary. >> hena daniels here in new york. thanks a lot. bernie sanders refuses to apologize for the trouble his supporters caused at the nevada democratic party convention. sanders supporters shut down the convention saturday, reportedly throwing chairs and sending death threats to the state party

chairwoman. they believe sanders was being unfairly denied delegates. in a statement yesterday, sanders said nevada party leaders shut out his backers. donald trump will reportedly meet with former secretary of state henry kissinger today. trump has been in phone contact with kissinger, according to the "washington post." kissinger was a top adviser for richard nixon and gerald ford. trump says he's open to talks with north korea's leader, kim jong-un, concerning that country's nuclear programs. later on "cbs this morning," norah o'donnell goes one on one with ivanka trump. norah gets her reaction to the new york times piece outlining decades of allegations against her father. >> i'm going to ask you about the new york times. they ran a front-page article this sunday about your father and the treatment of women. did you read it? >> i did. and i found it to be pretty disturbing based on the facts as i know them, both in the capacity as a daughter and in

the capacity as an executive who's worked alongside of him at this company for over a decade. so i was bothered by it. most of the time when stories are inaccurate they're not discredited. i will be frustrated by that. in this case, i think they went so far. they had such a strong thesis and created facts to reinforce it. and there's backlash in that regard. >> watch "cbs this morning" for the rest of the interview with ivanka trump. officials in sri lanka fear that 200 families may be buried in landslides. three days of heavy rain in the central section of the island nation triggered two landslides. rescuers are searching for survivors in buried villages. officials say 35 bodies have been recovered. more wet and potentially dangerous weather is expected today in south florida. a large storm system is moving off the coast this morning. flood warnings are posted today

in some areas. several funnel clouds were spotted in southeast florida. one person is in critical condition after being struck by lightning. several homes were also hit. a number of schools are closed for the day due to severe flood conditions. major delays this morning for hundreds of thousands of commuters in new york city after a fire shut down a major rail line. a massive fire broke out in a garden center under the metro north tracks. dall that's in harlem. witnesses heard a explosion. service was suspended into and out of grand central terminal, a major commuter hub. several buildings had to be evacuated. the railroad is offering limited service today. nearly 289,000 commuters take the railroad each day. the national transportation safety board says an amtrak engineer is to blame for last year's derailment in philadelphia. it also says the absence of speed-control equipment was a contributing factor.

kris van kleave reports. >> reporter: national transportation safety board investigators now believe the deadly amtrak crash was caused by the engineer's "loss of situational awareness." he told investigators minutes before the derailment he heard radio traffic between the dispatcher and engineer of a philadelphia commuter train that had been hit by a rock. the dispatcher asked him a couple of times if he needed medical attention, he said. they went back and forth a few times. as train 188 appeared, bostian said, "i blew my train's whistle quite a bit. i was concerned they had investigators on the ground." he said it got him thinking about a co-worker in california who was injured from a train collision and had glass in his eye from hitting a tractor-trailer. bostian accelerated going into a curve, hitting 106 miles per hour before slamming on the brakes, but only seconds before the train left the tracks. he told investigators he was concerned about his safety moving through the area where that commuter train was hit.

the ntsb is expected to renew its call for positive train control technology that can stop or slow a speeding train. kris van kleave, cbs news, los angeles. a security scare at the national mall in washington turned out to be nothing. a man who said that he had been exposed to anthrax drove on to the mall in front of the capitol. he called police and said he had put some of the substance in his truck. the man was not con camnated, and -- contaminated, and the substance was not hazardous. the man never threatened anyone but was arrested. the tsa is beefing up its security team at chicago's o'hare airport. last week hundreds missed their flights because of extraordinarily long security lines. speaking in houston yesterday, the tsa administrator apologized to the affected passengers. >> i do apologize to the people who found themselves stranded in chicago yesterday. again, i don't know what the

cause was. for any of you here from chicago, just know that we've got a team out there right now trying to figure out what the root cause was. >> the tsa is immediately sending 58 new security officers and four more bomb-sniffing dogs to o'hare. senator dick durbin called on the head of the tsa to resign if the lines don't get better. the senate approved legislation allowing families of 9/11 victims to sue the government of saudi arabia in u.s. courts for any role it might have been played in the attacks. the saudis have threatened to pull billions of dollars from the u.s. economy if the bill becomes law. relatives of 9/11 victims want the obama administration to declassify material that allegedly discusses possible saudi involvement. >> the victims of 9/11 and other terrorist attacks have suffered such pain and heartache that they certainly should not be denied justice. >> the white house says the bill could expose americans overseas
