caused when a hail of rocks, pelted a septa train traveling through north philadelphia, on the evening of may 12th, 2015. >> this isn't a game. this isn't something that is funny. this isn't something to do after school for kicks. people can get hurt. >> reporter: minutes later the ntsb has ruled, the engineer of the amtrak train 188, passing on an adjoining track, likely was distracted by radio messages about the incident. then, accelerating in the frankford curve, due to a loss of situational awareness at 106 miles an hour. the wreck, killing eight and injuring nearly 200. >> we think that rocks being thrown in trains is a common occurrence. it has got to end. >> reporter: with rocks shattering the cab window but striking windows in the passenger compartment, nestel says it is fortunate neither engineer nor anyone else was hurt. >> thank god that engineer

wasn't seriously injured. thank god somebody's dad, wasn't ending up in the hospital or killed. >> reporter: while the rock throwers who damaged this train has never been caught chief nestel says his officers are focusing their patrols in area where rock throwing is frequent. the deadly chain of events that the ntsb says likely started with this rock attack, a sad example of just how dangerous it can be. >> when a train is moving at 60 miles an hour and someone hurls a rock at it, someone is getting hurt. >> reporter: the chief told me that the actual number of rock attacks reported is relatively low but that is because many times there are attacks that unless they shattered the window of the train in one notices thinking it is just another noise outside. live from septa headquarters i'm walt hunter for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thanks, wall.

wreckage from egyptair flight is found in the mediterranean sea. search crews spotted human remains, floating in the waters, 200 miles north of egypt. european space agency located a possible oil slick, where it was throughout the plane went down. all 66 people on board are believed to have perish. the plane left paris early thursday morning, in route for cairo. investigators hope to find the jet's black boxes to determine what caused the disaster. month. feel it to be a safe environment for your children, you know, unfortunately within the last month, you know, it is an occurrence that made it feel like, that is the last bit. >> reporter: authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information, that leads to wingo's killer. >> chester county police need your help tracking down tyr el winchester who tried to run over a willis town township police officer yesterday. he a allegedly stole this car and then tried to ram the officer. and, before crashing the vehicle in the ditch their west chester pike and dell chester road. he took off running after that crash, the officer was not her. west goshen police after rested this man accused of abusing a disable man he was caring for. officers say eric heinback was caught on cameras punching a 23 year-old man in his west goshen home. man's mother turned that video into police as evidence.

he is now facing several charges including simple assault. lower merion police need your help tracking down this man, caught on surveillance, burglarizing a home in the penn valley section. man searches through the belongings on the house on frog road. the homeowners had only gone out believely when that burglar struck. he got away with jewelry, electronics and if you have any information call the police. thousands gathered to remember the man who helped transform temple university. public memorial service was held for former temple president peter liacouras. situation. >> this is a devastating disease. although some people can live with this for the rest of their lives, some people can't. many people lose their lives to this disease. many people lose their lives at young ages. >> reporter: to save her son's life betty ann donated a kidney, scott has been barely surviving on dialysis this fist lah was created in his arm for his treatments. transplant in october was a game changer. >> i was feeling like it was a match, anything that i can do to make this child's life better would i do. i'm his mom. i have seen him suffer. the it is a miracle that he ace live. >> reporter: to keep him alive and well there is a lot of youthing with piles of medications, the aim to keep lupus control, so scott can start his life again. >> it is a day to day fight. >> his fortitude is amazing, it is, we do this, we're a team. >> reporter: it is not known what causes lupus and there is no cure. it can strike anyone out of no where and symptoms range from
