from the doctor. bs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> it has happened again, underground explosion forces evacuations in philadelphia, for the second straight day. right now, on "eyewitness news", what's being blamed for this blast, and what neighbors are saying about the chaotic moments that shook their community. good evening, everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us there is explosion happened on the 600 block of pine street in washington square west, and just yesterday, an underground transformer blue, at 30th and market forcing brief e advantage agents of 30th street station. trang do live at the scene of today's incident with more on what happened. trang? >> that the tasha, peco crews are still out here working to repair this issue. you can see, along here on

sixth street, all of the peco trucks still out here, also many moreover on fifth street. now, 50 homes had to be de-energize in the order to make these repairs, all but six had power restored back tonight. you can see this intersection here, these lights are still out, people treating this as a four way stop. >> startling wake-up call after 1:00 a.m. for people who live on 600 block of pine street. >> it was extremely scary. when you turn the light out, you are going to bed, and you hear a boom that sounds like your yard exploded. >> that boom was the sounds of manhole covers flying from their bases, peco spokeswoman said underground cable got extremely hot, creating pressure that launched the covers into the air. >> stuck in the middle of the street, several over the street, kept building up, more and more, with each minute, and it was a very frightening experience. and all of the neighbors are out, and all get to go know each other again. >> fire department evacuated several homes, but people

allowed back into their homes within a lawyer. >> i never experienced anything like this before, no, very few people have. >> though saturday similar scene outside of 30th street station. around 1:00 p.m., a transformer explosion underground blew a manhole cover off its base, taking chunks of assault fault along with it, no one was hurt, amtrak officials are still working to determine a cause. and back here at sixth and pine, crews will be here overnight to restore power to those six homes that are still off line. peco officials are looking into what caused that cable to get so hot that they tell me they do not believe it was related to yesterday's wet weather. but for now, live in washington square west, trang do, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> all right, frank, thank you very much. now, returning to weather today, after a gloomy weekends, hoping for at least better start to the work week, meteorologist, lauren casey in the cbs-3 weather sent war look at the forecast, hopefully brighter skies, lauren? >> we do have much improved

conditions the next several days, very atypical may weather, no, really wasn't. dreary, low clouds hanging around center city philadelphia, drizzle falling, 62 degrees, winds out of the southeast 5 miles per hour, so getting little bit after break from the rainfall. but rainfall amount, at philadelphia international airport just this weekend over 2 inches, definitely a soggy weekends, approaching 2 inches in wilmington, delaware, valley forge, mt. laurel, new jersey, coming in about an inch and a quarter there, in wildwood, picking up over three quarters of an inch just in the last two days, storm scan3 showing us showers, still in place, especially west of the city. seeing the most shower activity right now across parts of southern lancaster county, seeing some shower activity starting to blossom once again, center city philadelphia, and into part of camden, gloucester, burlington counties, picking up more rainfall, and future weather showing us as we head into the next several hours, we will deal with some scattered shower activity but really starting to diminish as we head toward midnight, then after midnight conditions

really starting to dry up. we do have more, little more rain, in store, as we head into our monday, but temperatures today, with the low clouds being held back, our high only 66 degrees, in philadelphia, we should be in the middle 70s, but something to look forward to, we're less than a month away from summer, and we are going to have summer like temperatures in the delaware valley headed into mid week. i'll let you know when to break out the t-shirts and shades coming up in just a few. >> lauren, thank you so much. the penn state student who fell from the roof of her state college home on friday died of electrocution, according to coroner's report. twenty-one year old shannon matters had reportedly grabbed a high voltage line just before she fell. the bucks county native was on the roof with friends, matters was studying bio behavioral health at the university. she also served as a volunteer emt in state college. >> meantime, an accident involving a police car in south philly, injuries three people including two officers. it happened shortly before 8:00 this morning on the
