good morning from the studio 57 at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. mystery surrounds what happened to egyptair flight 804. egypt's president says all scenarios are possible. an unmanned submarine is joining the search this morning for the plane's flight recorders. smoke was reportedly detected in the cabin moments before the jet crashed on thursday. jonathan vigliotti reports. >> reporter: a marine is on the way to scour the seabed looking for the voice recorders from egyptair flight 804. they're using surveillance aircraft to help with the search. >> we could stay here for a good six hours looking. we have a lot of windows through the aircraft. everybody's looking. >> hello -- >> reporter: the audio recording

captured a check-in between the flight's pilot and air traffic control over zurich, switzerland. >> thank you very much. good night. >> reporter: 2.5 hours later, the aircraft began veering erratically before plummeting into the ocean. data published by "av herald," claims smoke was detected moments before the plane went down. aviation experts say that alone could rule out the possibility of pilot error. >> there is no human error that would have triggered smoke alarms. >> reporter: airline officials say it could take weeks to identify human remains, adding to the grief of relatives still searching for answers. cbs news, crete. cbs news transportation safety analyst and former ntsb chairman mark rosenker joins us from our london bureau. good morning. i want to ask a quick question about the priority of the government right now. does it have to do with locating the wreckage or getting black boxes? where is the priority? >> they have to find the

wreckage before they can find the boxes. also, they're very intense at getting the human remains back to the families, recovering as many as possible. at the same time, making sure that they identify them and get them pack to the families. >> in regards to the black boxes, tell me about the challenges. how long will the boxes be sending out pings, and how deep is the water there? >> the regulations require that these boxes have a battery that can emit the signal for at least 30 days. we may get lucky and get a few days more, maybe a week. we're dealing in 10,000 feet of water. and that is a very challenging depth to be trying to locate these boxes. >> we've been hearing reports that there might have been smoke in the cabin prior to the plane going down. does that tell you anything about a possible link to terrorism? >> no. we're still very, very far away from understanding exactly what happened. what it does show us is that, in

fact, something catastrophic did happen, but it cascaded over about a three-minute period before the aircraft totally lost control and contact and plummeted special the water. >> mark rosenker in london. thanks a lot for your insight. >> you bet. president obama lifted an arms embargo on vietnam this morning four decades after the end of the vietnam war. the president is in hanoi on a three-day visit to vietnam. it is his first stop on a week-long trip to asia. he will travel to japan next where he will attend a summit of the group of seven industrialized nations. he will also become the first u.s. president to visit hiroshima where the u.s. dropped the first atomic bomb in world war ii. an estimated 140,000 people were killed. also this morning, the president confirmed the leader of the taliban in afghanistan was killed by a u.s. drone. president obama said the death is a big step toward ending the

country's long, insurgent war. this video shows the aftermath of the drone strike -- >> targeting u.s. -- >> a french news agency says that there is video that shows the aftermath of the drone strike. his vehicle was attacked late last week in southwestern pakistan. a newly released national poll shows the race between hillary clinton and donald trump would be a statistical dead heat. in yesterday's nbc news/"wall street journal" poll of registered voters, clinton edge trump by just three points. that is within the poll's margin of error. in the same poll, bernie sanders has a 15-point lead over trump. >> reporter: hillary clinton and donald trump aren't just neck and neck in national polls but key swing states, as well. a new cbs news battleground tracker shows a virtual tie in florida and a five-point clinton advantage in ohio. last month, she enjoyed

double-digit leads in national polls against trump. >> i do not want americans to start to believe that this is a normal candidacy. it isn't. >> reporter: clinton's effort to focus on trump is complicated by bernie sanders who held two more big rallies in california sunday, pointing out that he polls better against trump than clinton does. >> if you want the strongest candidate to make sure that trump does not become president, we are that campaign. >> reporter: one area where trump still struggles -- attracting big-money donors. he said sunday that fully self-funding his campaign would require selling off assets. >> to finance a billion dollars, i would have to sell a building, i'd have to do something like that. will i do that? i could. >> reporter: polling shows that roughly half of clinton and trump supporters will vote for one because they so strongly dislike the other. cbs news, new york. iraq's prime minister announced the start of

operations to drive isis out of fallujah. it's been held by the militants since january of 2014. the government is urging people to leave, but residents say isis set up checkpoints to block them. people who cannot escape are being told to raise white flags above their homes. iraq's government faces another battle right in the capital. soldiers are struggling to keep order in baghdad's highly fortified green zone. two protesters died and more than 100 were wounded in the latest crash. supporters of a powerful shiite cleric are demanding government reforms. damaging winds, hail, and possible tornadoes are on tap this week in the central plains. >> daddy, let's go, please! >> sh. >> at least one twister late yesterday touched down in central texas. thunderstorm warnings are posted this morning in parts of the state. another tornado struck this weekend in the texas panhandle. so far, there are no reports of injuries or significant damage.

television. monsanto has 20,000 employees. the ceo of twitter wants to give one-third of his stock to employees. jack dorsey's asking investors to let him give nearly seven million shares away. an effort to boost company morale and retain workers. last october, dorsey laid off about 8% of the twitter work force. four key executives quit earlier this year. coca-cola has suspended production in venezuela because of a sugar shortage. coke is closing its central office there but not leaving the country. the venezuelan economy is near collapse. last week its president talented again to seize factories and nationalize them. and the "angry birds" movie soared in its debut week. the animated picture based on the video game is the latest in a string of successful pg-rated films. the "angry birds" movie earned $39 million followed by "captain america civil war" and "neighbors 2" came in third.
