from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. >> a man is hit and dragged by a hit-and-run driver in kensington. we've just learned, sadly, the victim has died. we'll tell you what police know about the car, they're looking for, and where the victim was returning from when it happened. >> and pennsylvania woman is the first in the united states to contract a super bug resistant to common antibiotics. how doctors were able to treat her and why officials are telling people to stay calm. >> and a live look at ocean city where in just a few hours the boardwalk will be buzzing. it is the unofficial start of summer. it feels like it out there, too, katie has your holiday forecast, today is friday, may 27, good morning. let me say that one more time,

it is friday. >> the ladies are ruling the ruse, nicole brewer is in. first, katie with the forecast, all important forecast. >> absolutely we do have some sunshine for you yet again, couple of shower or thunderstorms we have to get to. certainly travel issues along the way, meisha will have that for you in a second. what's going on on storm scan, at least for now, do you have little pocket hereof some showers, no thunder being reported with that or any lightning, at least not doppler indicated, but that little pocket is pretty steady stuff if you are traveling eastbound perhaps on 78. thankfully looks like for the motion part this is pushing out of our area, but regardless, there you have it. at the moment, though, we do have air quality alert that is posted for you here today. across most of the region, berks, lehigh, northampton county, up to the poconos, you don't have it today. but the rest of us do. and it is going to heat up very efficiently. take a look, already off to very mild start, flirting with or already into the 70s here, in philly, allentown, reading, dover, you're all in the 70s

currently, and it definitely feels quite muggy outside. very, very mild start. so, we're going to make it an easy run for 90 here today. it is hot, it is steamy, you will have sunshine, eventually heat driven shower or thunderstorm fires up as the day progresses and we'll certainly have to track the possibility even into the upcoming holiday weekends. >> so nice walking out the door this morning, katie, so warm. >> windows down. >> i know, windows down already. all right, thank you so much, katie, 90s, i'll take it, construction here, 422 westbound the off ramp to trooper, right lane still compromised even the eastbound side pulled off to the shoulder, just know construction out here on 422, hopefully that get moved out of the way by the five hour, seems like it is being pushed, the vine all looking good with open last night, moving in the westbound and eastbound side. we can see the eastbound side, early risers out, there i would say early for a friday indeed. but looking good on the vine. boulevard moving in the southbound direction, looking quiet. that's he can actually what we want to see at 4 30 in the

morning, also, take a look at this construction westbound, one lane block, and do you have speed restriction in place, down to 35 miles per hour, this should lift right around 6 a.m. nicole, over to you. >> thanks, meisha, a i'll take it, church worker dead this morning after hit-and-run crash. >> that's right. drag while getting into his van overnight. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch live at the philadelphia police accident investigation unit. where that search is on for the hit-and-run driver, justin, what can you tell us? >> nicole, brooke, good morning, police are now searching for a car that's perhaps dark green or black in color. they say the driver struck a 57 year old man in kensington late last night, and just kept going. and now that man has died after being treated at temple hospital. let's take you now to video. this happened just after ten last night, police say on the 21 hundred block of month street near diamond streetment the victim had just dropped off church members for a meeting, his dodge van was park on front street, and he was exiting through the driver

side door. that's when they say he was struck by a dark perhaps mid size car going northbound on front, police tell us the victim was dragged, about 15 feet, and left unconscious, suffering trauma to his head and face. again, he later died the impact bent the door back in the opposite direct. witnesses called over 26 district officers patrolling nearby to the scene. police now have at least 2 witnesses, and they are hoping to gain another perspective. >> fortunately, at the location where the accident occurred, there were several businesses with exterior surveillance cameras so accident investigation officers trying locate the owners of the businesses in order to view these cameras. >> now, we are told the victim did not live too far from the scene where he was injured, and would later die in the hospital. looking for a dark mid-size car, perhaps perhaps green or black, in color, it should

have some front end damage we are told perhaps right front flat tire, as well. the driver now faces vehicular manslaughter and likely other charges, as well. we are live here outside accident investigation. i'm justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". nicole, brooke, back into you. >> new this morning, a man is recovering after he was robbed and then shot in the hip at temple university. police say the 45 year old victim had his cell phone and wallet with cash inside taken from him there is happened just before 12 30 this morning at 13 and westmoreland street. that victim is in stable condition. police are hoping nearby surveillance cameras help them catch the suspect. >> get those grills and bathing suits ready. memorial day weekends kicks off today. many in our region will be headed down to the shore for the unofficial start of summer, our pat gallen is headed down early, too, live in wildwood in the next hour with a look at all this weekend's excitement. >> from the city to the shore for a full list of things to do this memorial memorial day ws log on to our website

cbsphilly.com. smoking on jersey shore beaches may soon be a thing of the past. that's if new jersey lawmakers get their way. the legislature just sent smoking ban bill to governor governor christie's desk yesterday, receiving mixed reaction. now, we spoke to people on both sides including beach-goers and democratic assembly woman who helped sponsor that bill. >> you should definitely be able to do it on the beach. everybody is out here to relax, you want to have a good time, you have your music, sometimes even a beer or two. >> secondhand smoke is a enormous health risk to non-smokers, but, you know, finding cigarette butts on the beach and in the parks is also quite damaging to the environment. >> the measure goes to the governor's desk next, while many towns already have smoking ban in place, the governor thinks municipalities should stay out. >> we have to tell but a heat scare for more than dozen bucks county school children. 14 student from william penn middle school were taken to the hospital tore treated for

heat exposure, 6 graders were on fieldtrip to trenton thunder baseball game when they started feeling sick on the bus ride home. >> our weather has like changed from late fall to summer overnight, and i think possibly the buses weren't prepared. >> all the kids are okay. experts say it is important to make sure kids drink enough water on hot days as these temperatures continue to rise. a pennsylvania woman becomes the first u.s. citizen to contract the bacteria resistant to lags resort and the i buy odd innings. that will woman went to health clinic for urinary tract infection and doctors discovered she had the drug resistant e.coli bacteria in her sister, she was successfully treated when different course of antibiotics. the pennsylvania medical society released a statement saying this news is cause for concern, but went on to say, quote, it is important that we remember it was caught and now is not the time to panic, as many healthcare professionals are working to address the situation. the department of justice is reviewing the chester

are you right? i was telling the truth. that's the dramatic end of last night's national spelling bee which ended in a tie for the thirds year in a row. 13 year old and 11 year old, are co--champs. the youngest winner ever. that's pretty awesome. good for those guys. hey, brace yourselves for this one. dash cam video captured insanely loud lightning strike. check this out. >> yikes. the sheriff cruiser in peducah, kentucky captured that lightning strike as the car was just driving down the road. the lightning struck a home nearby, and the concussion from that blast actually knocked the camera head from it windshield mount. no one was injured. >> wow, pretty crazy stuff. at 4 43 right now. let's check on that forecast. >> katie here with the holiday forecast. >> indeed i am. guys, looks like it will look and feel like summertime here this weekend. now, along with that, a lot of

times you have to allow for showers and thunderstorm. you know how it goes in the summertime around this area, right? you get the heating of the day t could help spark this very isolated showers and thunderstorms, we had that happening through the overnight. take a look. not necessarily a thunderstorm, rather pocket of locally heavy rain pushing along i78 into at least portions of i80. so for the most part our area in the clear at least for now. it will stay that way at least initially as the day progresses. but, we will eventually start to see more showers and thunderstorms pop up later on today. a lot of activity still brewing, back across the central planes, these poor folks just can't seem it catch a break. but we too could end up with a few thunderstorms today, although at this . we are not expecting any kind of severe weather threat, nothing major anyway. so, as we jump ahead to future weather, should be brightening up for sunrise, through the early afternoon, things bake in the atmosphere, enough heating of the day, enough instability, to help trigger this, these spotty showers or thunderstorms. that will fire up, primarily into the afternoon and evening. you see it all the time in the

summer and this is very summer like pattern. that will continue toward early evening before it clears out. i mean, this is classic stuff right here. very similar forecast then tomorrow, as well as sunday, and then by monday we will actually end up with maybe more widespread clouds and probably few additional showers and storms, as we see more tropical moisture actually get drawn in here. for now, it is a toast i one, guys, hot, humid, very steamy, scattered afternoon evening shower or thunderstorm, otherwise, you will see some sunshine, later tonight drop down to 68 under a lot of cloud cover. still quite warm, quite muggy. still flirting with 90 over the course of the weekends, no the bad guys, if you have picnic, beach plans, the beach and the poconos, the place to beat the worse of the heat obviously, regardless looks and feels like summer across the region, and these 8's, meisha, last us right through the majority of the 7 day. >> yes, i see, that katie. i looked right into next week to see how long we will have it, sounds good, good morning, everyone, tgif. we made it to our friday. taking a look at some construction out there, 422,

today, and the temperatures should spike with no problem to 09 degrees today. we manage to actually get there yesterday at philadelphia international airport. so, it is a toast i day, that that's unfolding right now, actually because of some of the heat driven, because of the heat driving it, we've ended up with a couple of showers rumbling through portions of the lehigh valley, the poconos, in the last few hours, not primarily moving along northern new jersey, inch states like 08 and 78. however, later today, we could easily pick up a quick shower or a thunderstorm. let's take a look at the temperature change in the last 24 hours, from the same time yesterday. you have seen anywhere from a five to ten to even 12 degrees difference, it is warmer, no, feelings are not deceiving you here, definitely is a miler beginning to the morning. but, as that translates to the thermometer, many of you are actually starting offer in the 70s right now. so we'll have no problem hitting 909 degrees later today. 09 is our expected high in the city, definitely very humid. please take care if you plan to be out in this. make sure you're lathering on the sun block, meisha, a

meantime, so happy to see you, nicole. >> yes. >> welcome back this morning, so you guys, starting off a busy friday morning. we have a truck fire that's fully engulfed on the turnpike, that will slow you down, few more accidents i'll get to in just a moment. >> all right, my goodness, getting things started. the weather looks like it will cooperate. we had little pocket of rain that came through overnight. now at this . as we go on taught storm scan3 see primarily over northern, north central new jersey, really unless your travels are taking you maybe eastbound toward new york city on 78 or 80, generally, we're in the clear right now, but you might have some damp roads through the lehigh valley for example traveling out that way in the next couple of hours before things really dry out. but, that said, even though we start off on a pretty tame and tranquil note here, now that things are fizzling in the wet weather department overnight, doesn't mean you are in the clear all day, because you have got that very summer like pattern, where you get the heating of the day, the instability required, to help trying area shower or thunderstorm, especially, northwest of philadelphia, throughout the day.
