♪ developing right now at 11:00 o'clock, a vintage plain crashes into the hudson river. just moments ago police say divers searching for the pilot have recovered a body. however, right now authorities are not confirming the body is that of the pilot. the crash happened around 7:30 to note off the coast of new jersey. witnesses say the world war ii fighter plane p47 thunder bolt circled the area before going into the water. the plane took off from airport on long island and was taking

"eyewitness news" reporter alexandra hoff is in ocean city with more on the unofficial start of summer. >> reporter: this is what i call ocean city chic. high to pick one of these. it ended up more brisk and windy here on the boardwalk in ocean city than i thought but, when you're wearing swimsuits during the day and sweatshirts at night it gives the whole memorial day weekend vibe. i haven't heard any complaints just yet when craving salt and sand all roads lead to the shore. the big difference being the mode of transportation. >> we were smart enough to come early. we left wednesday night. >> six hours.

kensington pastor and never stopped. family and friends are immediating for justice. "eyewitness news" reporter david spurt is live at police headquarters with their message tonight. david? >> jessica, this is a tragic story and detectives here have been working a around the clock since this happened just about 24 hours ago trying to see if anybody out there has any information that could help them crack this case. things appear to be normal at the corner of diamond and front street but not even 24 hours before, a man lost his life and his killer is still out there. 57-year-old elli leon was one of a kinds. so says his friend and pastor. >> he was a goodman. he was a humble man. he was a person that liked to serve people. doesn't matter who it was. >> reporter: leon was working at his usual ken sipping ton ministry on front street thursday night. as he was getting out of this van, police say someone in a

saab hit leon. dragging him about 20 feet. the driver just kept going. leon died early this morning at a local hospital. >> i saw the people trying to help this gentleman out. he was on the floor. everybody was frantic. >> reporter: investigators located a car part with a saab logo on the scene. his brother told "eyewitness news" that elli dedicated his life to helping others. haws a pastor helping recovering addicts get back on their feet. as authorities continue the official investigation, those who who knew him are begging the driver to come forward. >> took away the life of a goodman. now, you need to step up and, you know, just step up and face what you did. >> if it was an accident whatever happened, come for. don't be -- don't be hiding because sooner or later it's going to -- they going to catch you. >> reporter: investigators believe that the striking vehicle was a zoo possibly

between the years i should say 2003 and 2007. any information give police a call. reporting live tonight david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> david, thank you. philadelphia police also need your help identifying a group of teenagers in overbrook. one of the boys attacked a 61-year-old man as he walk his dog on 66th street near malvern avenue last saturday. the victim did suffer a broken nose. pleases say the teenager was in the company of four other boys and they were all seen on surveillance video trying to open car doors in that area. a 17-year-old student at north penn high school now faces arson related charges. on tuesday police say the juvenile started a fire in the high school band storage room. students and staff had to be evacuated and school was canceled. the building suffered sphere structural and smoke damage. the charges include multiple felonies and the student is being held at the montgomery county youth sent. new at 11:00 supporting victims of child sex abuse and a

law to help them get justice. they demonstrated outside saint charles borromeo seminary. they are urging catholic church leaders to support house bill 1947 it would extent the statute of limitations for child sex abuse cases. changes to the statute could bank rupp the archdiocese. >> striking verizon employees may be back on the job next week. the company and its unions reached an agreement in principle on a four-year contract. about 39,000 cable and land line employees in nine eastern states have been on strike since april. they had been working without a contract since last august and negotiating with the labor department for the past two weeks. two huge potholes causing traffic headaches in northern liberties are getting fixed. we first brought you this story yesterday. the holes turned up on willow street between fourth and fifth after underground work a few months ago. within an hour of our roar crews

headed out to do the repair wo work. today president obama became the first sitting us president to visit hiroshima sin the atomic bomb wiped out the city during world war ii. the president honored the 140,000 lives lost in 1945 drag somber ceremony near the epicenter of that blast. the president did not offer an apology for the attack. he did use the historic moment to look to the future reinforcing his goals to end nuclear warfare. >> we have a shared responsibility to look directly into the eye of history. and ask what we must do differently to curb such suffering again. >> the president also met with some of the survivors of the attack. many people wanted to see but now it will not be happeni happening. drum many will not debate bernie sanders ahead he have california primary. this decision comes as hundreds of protesters clashed with police and each other at a trump rally in san diego tonight.

>> this is cbs3 "eyewitness news" with ukee washington, jessica dean, kate bilo and don bell. ♪ on the health watch a new study linking cell phone use to cancer appears to be raising eyebrows. tumors found up in two to 3% of rats continually exposed to cell phone radiation. however, the female rats weren't affected. also the rats not exposed to the radiation died at a higher rate than those that were. and outside reviewer of the

research says there are too many flaws in the study and the findings raise more questions than answers. johnny depp was serve add restraining order at the the request of his estranged wife. actress amber heard says a saturday fight resul resulted ip throwing a cell phone at her which left a bruise on her face. herd filed for divorce monday. she's asking for spousal support but depp's filed wednesday asked the judge to deny that request. >> a new jersey family makes a discovery be 19 their home. they discovered a boat. believed to date back to the 1800's. eileen scanlon says that's not the only thing they learned about their house. >> the boat was the foundation. the edges of the those walls were actually coming down and being supported by this boat. >> archaeologists have not determined the exact age of the

>> buy two packs of buns haven't extra. >> some people are cutting down on their gluten. >> marking. >> they're looking for more of a value. >> louis is the ceo of dietz and watson. >> the packs are all exact weight. so they're either 1 pound or 14-ounces. and the hotdogs then are portions so an even number of hotdogs. >> his company sells larger franks. other have smaller dogs 10 to pack. >> according to the national hotdog and sausage council it comes down to how they're bake. typically in pans designed to hot eight rolls a system in place way back when folks bought their beef franks from the butcher. why hasn't and there a meeting of the minds? that's good question. we can't answer. >> not going to find it asking people on the street corner. >> now hotdog manufacturers are starting to offer different

might put to you work. it won't be a great memorial day monday but with that being said the rest of the holiday weekend is actually really nice. so you within some, you lose some. today, tomorrow, sunday looking great. monday looking like a bit of a washout for parts of the area. let's take look what's going on right now though and boardwalk pretty crowded. everybody enjoying this first weekend the first nice weekend down the shore really this year. unless you go back to march or april really but things looking great in ocean city. people just extending the night as long as they can. take look at the time lapse video from earl today. this is in margate. watch out quickly this beach packs up. everybody shows up at the same time. the beach is very very crowded for awhile there. and then everything starts to settle down. few people go out to watch the sunset right now it's 53 degrees in margate. that wind off the water definitely cooling things down along the immediate coast f you're packing up and headed to the shore tomorrow bring a sweatshirt even with temperatures during the 80s during the day it will feel chilly at night with the wind

off the water. showers and storms have really fizzled off to the west. not much going on out there. everything looking aok. you can see the clouds, though, swirling around our tropical depression. system moving in from the west going to assist in pulling that moisture up the coast as we get into our monday. today we did hit 90 degrees again. thursday's official high came at 90 if we get there tomorrow which will be close to it looking for a high of about 89 there's a chance we hit. three days in the 90 which is would make it technically a heat wave here in philadelphia. we may actually get there still in the 80s on sunday then lower 80s on monday. tomorrow we're stuck under the this big ridge another really nice day with sunshine early watch for few pop up showers missing us to the north and west tomorrow. sunday same story. sunshine then a few more afternoon clouds but here comes our system as this front moves in, it's going to pull in moisture from that tropical depression and bring it into much of the region as we head into monday. so tropical depression number two could become bonnie by tomorrow morning. possibly making landfall along

the coast of south carolina and then that remnant moisture gets pulled in here on monday. we're talking periods of rain rumbles of thunder. parts of the area could end up with an inch to an inch and half of rain from this system on monday. so if you're down the shore in the city or in the poconos saturday and sunday you're best days to get tomorrow the best day sunday is number two and then monday not so great. poconos same story. monday rain, rumbles thunder it does look like the heaviest may be down the shore also rough surf as well. be safe if you're down the shore on monday. try to come on back before the rain hits. overnight partly cloudy isolated thunderstorm. possible still off to the west. they're mainly missing us. monday the day to watch for wet weather. actually the only really not so great day of the seven day thing get better next week. looks good. thank you kate. >> all right. don bell what's coming up next in sports? we're talking hoops. nerlins knoll and jahlil okafor both members of the sixers for now. trade rumors to report plus the
