are the b from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". just a gloomy memorial day, as soggy ceremony in washington crossing honoring the 11,000 veterans burried there. men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. a live report from right there, coming up. a rainy day down the shore after two beautiful beach days. the renmant of tropical storm bonnie are making for a wet ends to the weekend, but overall, it is a successful unofficial start to summer.

good afternoon, i'm brooke thomas. >> and i'm joe hole end. jim donovan is off this noon. so the question will the rain ruin memorial day celebrations, and barbeques, or perhaps the ride home from the shore? >> let's get right to meteorologist, katie fehlinger in the cbs-3 weather center, katy? >> just talking about it, it will be terrible if you're stuck in traffic, in the rain. >> that's the worse thing, right? because, well, would you want to sort of tap off the weekends with lofts sunshine, and heat, you know? >> you warned us. >> yes, you know, and there it was. and that rain really pounded down heavily, didn't it, to the overnight. at this point, i'm going to take you back in time here, show you what's transpired at this point not as much on the area radar, start things offer by taking out to one of the shore shots, at ocean city, just fogged in, it is so dreary, out there, the rain is still falling, depending on shore location, at least along the coastal communities, we go next to "skycam 3", at our local headquarters, here, overlooking center city. look at this, sun's actually

trying to break through the clouds, upper seven 70s, breeze out the south, dew point awfully high, higher the dew point shall more moisture rich, as we take you back in time on storm scan3, going all the way back to 6:00 p.m. last night, take a look at what happened. moisture builds in, once it get here it essentially doesn't stop. when you have the kind of heavy rain that rolls through here, through the overnight and this morning, that really led to a lot of not just accumulation, but messy travel out there, and flooding on roadways and whatnot. so you know if it had to come at all i suppose it is good it came on a holiday morning, didn't have typical rush hour, good thing, there will still like will be be periods of rain throughout the day at the shore, further inland, you are, it isn't quite the same scenario. i mention this moment ago. we may still finds some lingering showers out there as the day progresses, coming up in the full forecast, i'll track what the rest of the day has up its sleeve. regardless doesn't look like we're out of the woods just yet, stick with us, full

forecast a bit later in the show, jim, back to you. >> thank you very much. this morning's rainy weather and the possibility of more showers later have forced several communities to cancel or postpone memorial day parades. but, it is some places people are still gathering, to honor veterans who have given their lives in defense of our freedom. anita oh, new at veterans cemetery, in washington crossing, bucks county, anita, good afternoon. >> hey, good afternoon, joe, that's right, there are hundreds of people gathered here for this memorial day ceremony which started about an hour ago, the sun has peaked out for several moments, but as you can see, it is starting to wrap up now, but they are making their closing remarks, and they've lined this area with american flags, and as part of the ceremony they actually just did a rightful salute, also observed moment of silence, and to honor the nearly 8,000 veterans, laid to rest here, the organizers plan to layout wreaths on the graves, and there is also emotional moment

few minutes ago at one point as the organizers asked those who lost family members and combat to stand, talked about the pain of losing loved ones, in conflict. and, this cemetery has personal meaning for some, who attended today, i just spoke to a viet nam war veteran who told me it was very special to be here, as his friends and comrads are also laid to rest here, and these hundreds of acres were actually supposed to become a property for about 200 new homes, but several years ago, many thought to instead make it a cemetery for fallen soldiers. again, as you can see, the ceremony is ongoing, and we will be expected to wrap up in a few moments, so we will be speaking to those who are in attendance here, we bring you the latest sites and sounds, later this afternoon, but for now, live in newtown, anita oh, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". anita, thank you for that live report. >> this morning president obama continues the solemn memorial day tradition of laying a wreath at the tomb of

the unknown. >> cemetery at arlington national cemetery honors members of the military who died serving their country. the president urged americans to remember the sacrifice every fallen service member is given. >> for us, the living, those every us who still have a voice, it is our responsibility, our obligation, to fill that silence with our love and our support and our gratitude and not just with words but with our actions. >> earlier this morning, the president held a reception at the white house for family members of fallen service members and veterans groups. on twitter, democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton said our fallen heroes deserve our profound gratitude forgiving their lives for preserving our freedom today and every day. at this hour she is walk nag memorial day in new york with her husband, former president bill clinton. >> tomorrow donald trump says he'll clear up questions about millions of dollars he says he raised for veterans. in january, trump skipped the

debate to hold this fundraiser. he said he raised more than $6 million for vets including a million he pledged himself. rededication ceremony is taking place this afternoon, in the state of delaware. our jan carabeo shows us how the national guard is honoring one of their own. >> a sitting way to mark memorial day for the biden family. today the delaware national guard headquarters becomes the major joseph r beau biden the third national guard reserve center. >> beau biden is like a son to me. >> "eyewitness news" spoke to frank, when the center's rededication was first announce the late last year. he said beau biden dedicated his entire service, to his country, and enlisting in the army national guard following 9/11, biden grew into his role at citizens soldier training in the hauls that will now bear his name. he worked in general's offers

the water bitten on the leg, beach patrol believes based on the size of the wounds the shark could be about 5 feet long, beach-goers were shake glenn when we came in, there was blood all over the sand. and there was a little boy sitting down over there. when we got closer we saw that he had gotten bitten by a shark. >> the boy had been swim with his stepfather at the time of the attack. lifeguards closed off that section of the beach to see if the shark would swim back out to sea. the captain of the beach patrol says he hasn't seen a shark bite in neptune beach in 15 years. renounded animal expert, jack, says zoo keep nerves since that the did i the right thing saturday when they shot and killed a guerrilla dragging a four year old boy. the boy had fallen into the guerrilla enclosure, said on cbs this morning, tranquilizing the animal would have been too risky. as brian web reports, the entire ordeal was caught on camera. >> the little boy is barely visible under the guerrilla, 15 feet below his mother.

for a moment, it seems like protecting him, until ... >> oh, my gosh. >> kimmo connor shot the video and we are near the boy and his mother before hearing a splash in the moat. >> the little boy, i'm going to go in. no you're not. i'm going to go in. no you're not. the mother turns around to her other children,. >> the four year old boy climbed through a barrier, and dropped into the exhibit. two female guerillas responds today a demand to leave but the 400-pound did not. o'connor says he ran out of his cave, toward the boy, dragged him through the moat twice and then up a concrete section of the exhibit. >> when he scaled him up, his head banking against the wall as he's climbing up. so that's the part that people didn't see. >> after ten minutes, the zoo employee shot and killed the 17 year olden dangered guerrilla fearing a tranqilizer might further agitate the april.

middle part of the week, see the sun return, and humidity drop, too, the other part of this, so brutally steamy outside. >> impressive 24 hours, basically streak every yellow, centers itself just southeast of i-95 another pocket where we had some very impressive rainfall amounts through the last 24 hours, especially un through carbon, monroe county pick up two, three plus inches in this zone here so it really was a lot in one fell swoop, flashflood warning, and just putting it in list format, some of the spots that we did the best jonas, pa, shy of three and a half inches, seoul, new jersey, mt. holly, new jersey, just shy of 3 inches apiece, walnut port, pa, northampton county 2.7 inches, and the list goes on even at philadelphia international airport over inch and a half. a look at storm scan3, most current time here, only three hour loop what we are looking

at, all of this moisture coming in courtesy whatever was tropical storm, tropical depression, cyclone bonnie regardless of what you want to call it, though, it is still sending all of this moisture our way. see the circulation over south carolina, this this storm won't have any direct impact on us, what it does do however is keep the steam coming and train of moisture our way for the rest of the day so even on future weather things are starting to clear out are out, notice what happens, still have the moisture to work with, even by two, three, four, five, 6:00 there still will be scattered rounds every shower locally heavy rain, so much moisture in the atmosphere all the clouds can do is ring themselves out with heavy rainfall potentially so it could be something you're still facing by 8:00 tonight and later on that that. by tomorrow skies are clearing out nicely not only that but start to see the humidity drop. lovely live shot. beach patrol headquarters

outside margate, not good day, and we continue to see all of the fog settling in, not to mention the moisture, so very steamy day un folding, generally around the region as a whole right now we expect to do some flirtation with the 80s here the next couple of days, should hit it right on the button tomorrow, wednesday, thursday, especially looking lovely. and then by friday see another cold front come along that bridges with it shower or thunderstorm, and temperatures are back, frankly, where they should be upper 70s at that point, all-in-all not bad week. just the holiday is less than ideal. >> i know i text so happy to see the sun, everyone complaining about how hot it is, and i keep thinking, woe made it. >> i said ya, no complaints, missy. >> i was happen. >> i hey, several hollywood stars were in vatican city sunday getting met as from pope francis. >> so you can see among them george clean which his wife amal sink the award, also richard gear with the pontiff. who can be seen in the

spent more than 30 years in the public schools. we're retired, but we like to stay involved. you think he's going to learn to fly? we're just as busy now as in our teaching days. the same goes for a lot of the retired educators we know. let me see you all flap your wings, like you're penguins learning to fly. teaching is all about building relationships. and that never goes away. because once a teacher, always a teacher. we're ed and miriam, and we're proud to be new jersey educators.
