we watched as the president talk about the team and everything was fun. >> this is a team that just keeps giving us these moments, gqj, the chef, and the president showed all types of love for them. our leslie van arsdal is with the team in washington and she joins us live from the white house, leslie. >> you know, this has been a wild ride, for this team, since winning the national championship, two months ago. and then to actually celebrate the win, with the president of the united states, it doesn't get any bigger or better than that. welcome to the white house. i guess it is the blue and white house today because we're giving it up to the 2016 ncaa champion villanova wildcats. >> villanova's visit to the white house two months after wildcats won their first national title in 1985 on a buzzer beater by chris jenkins. what better way to wrap up a victory tore then a send off by command inner chief.

"eyewitness news" reporter trang do is live at 63rd and theodore street with breaking details on this, trang. >> reporter: you can see it is a active scene here with the crime scene unit in front of the victim's house. police are not the releasing the name but he is a 77 year-old man who lives here his entire life. neighbor called 911 around one there 30 monday morning after hearing commotion from the house. fire fighters came out, knocked on the door but saw nothing out of the ordinary. they left without going inside the house.

man's sons called police to do a well-being check on him after he didn't hear from him since friday. the office's arrived at 1:00 p.m. to find the man on the floor of his home with blunt force trauma to the head. detectives believe that the suspect broke in the back of the house, and beat this man, twice over the course of the weekend. >> there are many things, since friday night when he got beat up by kids in the neighborhood. he didn't go to the hospital. and it appears that sunday, early monday morning the kid again broke in the house and assaulted him and injured him and killed him. >> reporter: police say witnesses reported seeing three men leaving the front of the house, locking the door behind them. police are asking anyone with any information to contact them. but we are live from southwest philadelphia, i'm trang do for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> okay, thank you. another disturbing discovery in chester county a woman's body is found in the pond tied to a cinder block. chopper three was over the pond in east coventry. body was discover on the surface of the water around 11:00 o'clock this morning.

they say she was already dead when she was placed in the pond. >> no gunshot wounds. no blunt force trauma. no sign of strangulation. in other word there is no obvious signs of what the cause of death was here. >> authorities are hoping that jewelry and tattoos, could unravel the mystery of the victim's identity. well, a long forgotten painting is now at the center of the legal battle. >> a local man is taking on the federal government, to keep the possession of the piece of art that he painstakingly restored. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff has more on why the government wants this painting. >> i see a weary man, with a suit that doesn't fit but he is just loaded with dignity. >> reporter: with oil, on canvas, 1934 farmer represents the period in which it was painted. america's great depression and through eyes of one man the proud people, who remained resilient. >> it was completely black. it was shredded.

it had holes in it. >> reporter: matthew schwartz is a cherry hill based international fine arts dealer. he said 80 plus year-old piece had been discarded by a museum and wound up at a low end auction where he bought it and realized it was a work by john slaven. >> we spent several weeks restoring the painting to its original condition. >> reporter: he then listed it for sale for $8,500. shortly after posting the paint to go e bay, schwartz was issued a federal summons state ago this this painting was created through a new deal era arts program, a and therefore, claiming that 1934 farmers is property of the u.s. government. according to the summons federally funded art completed during the great depression has simply been on loan to government entities and non-profit but schwartz says if the piece had any prior worth to the government, they never showed it. >> this painting is me. this painting is mine. >> reporter: emotion has been filed in federal court in

camden. the schwartz hopes to set a precedence for other discarded depression era pieces and stories that they tell. >> he may have been unemployed but most importantly, the artists, john slaven, recognized this. >> reporter: schwartz feels that he, alone recognized the work of slaven's 1934 farmer. reporting from camden county, alexandria hoff for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". now news of a big announcement from thomas jefferson university hospital. >> health reporter stephanie stahl joins with us news on what could be ground breaking studies on medical marijuana. >> reporter: this came out today. this new venture is putting together scientific data on medical marijuana which was recently passed in pennsylvania. thomas jefferson university hospital announced the creation of a program that it hopes will help patients, and doctors. >> we're the first health university in the united states to launch a comprehensive academic resource for medical can a

bus, it has been done in canada and other countries as well but it has been staying away from the u.s. we are stepping into that area for the first time. >> reporter: doctor charles pollack is director of the institute of emerging health professions. he said the creation for education and cannabis research toys fill a gap in information available to both patients, and doctors, on medical marijuana. >> the scientific and clinical side, this is a concern that there is all this excitement and interest and all this hope and yet in many areas there is a real lack of what we would can be for typically sound scientific data. >> reporter: governor tom wolf signed pennsylvania's medical marijuana law back in april legalizing its use for 17 different medical ailments. both new jersey and delaware already have laws in place with other states, likely to follow, doctor pollack hopes that jefferson will lead the way, to a better informed medical community. >> we're looking at a best path forward given the now 24 out of the 50 states approved this plus district of columbia

well, a new effort is underway to improve the quality of life for old philadelphians. >> rothman center unveiled age friendly initiative to take, official where is joined by mayor jim kenney in west philadelphia rothman center's goal under this new initiative is time prove access to educational programs, fresh food and neighborhood amenities, and for those, 55 years old older, says most in life. mayor kenney is taking action to assure religious and

afternoon it turned out to be. we hit 88 for a high. warm day but dew points dropping to the 40's and 50's this afternoon it felt a whole lot better, then previous days it felt with the high humidity, even better then this morning. take a look outside we will go outside to bethlehem where sunnies shining brightly. it looks like a great spring evening, mayor has not been so good to us, last week or so of the month has been a little bit better than first part of the month but we're ending on and really bright note, all across the region. we can say fair bell to may and hopefully june will be quieter. storm scan three shows clearing skies, and nothing happening, at the moment across portions of mainly our entire viewing area we did have a shower or thunderstorm popping up over sussex county, delaware, that has drifted, into right around salisbury maryland where it does lightening and thunderer associated with and a few pop up showers are just off to the south, and you can feel that circulation there what was once bonnie. a few showers popping up, could there been a shower that creeps in here tomorrow

afternoon off to the south? there could be. the most of it is dry through the day and should stay dry until this next front arrives, late thursday into friday, so cloud, may increase thursday, and best chance for showers and thunderstorms this week comes on friday but if you do see a pop up shower tomorrow from the city on south, don't be shocked to see it after a sunny start. 86 degrees in philadelphia 80 in millville and wildwood. eighty-five in allentown. feels great outside. dew points from the city on north and west, in the 40's and lower 50's. it the is still humid down the shore. hume mid delaware as well but you can see that drop in humidity meaning it feels like the awesome range. we will go from dew points in the 60's and 70's tomorrow to a dew point around 50 this afternoon. that makes a difference this time of the year. tomorrow is another nice day, mostly sunny, highs in the lower 80's. cooler then today. some spots may not make it past 70's. thursday same story. here comes the front on friday bringing in a right need chance for showers and storms. down the shore this week not a bad forecast there, wednesday
