pottstown, through her in the water like a piece of trash. now, we were on scene after her body was discovered in east coventry township, pigeon creek specifically, in about 4 feet of water. >> this happened on monday memorial day. the district attorney says there were people swimming in that area sunday afternoon, and did not obviously see any signs of a body in that 4 feet of water. so he believes this happened sometime between sunday and early monday. today was the day the identification was made, we're told that miss benjamin lived in rochester, new york, she was pre k teacher at warwick childcare incorporated in pottstown, and family member came down from rochester, already on their way back to rochester, but had to identify her. here is what the district attorney had to say and he is furious. >> there is someone out there right now who knows exactly what he did. he tide a cinder block to a young woman's leg, and dumped her into a pond. he knows that we're coming for him.

79 drug deaths this year. almost all heroin. it is a steady increase that's left many local morgues crowded. thus, refrigerated buildings like this, newly purchased, additional storage, able to hold about 55 bodies. >> we have that for the future and hopefully we won't need it. >> over the bridge governor tom wolf spent the day announcing his request for additional funds to go fight pennsylvania's plaguing opioid crisis. >> we need to address it for the rightly and head-on as the medical problem that it is. >> at 31, anthony says, a lot of his friends have wound up in refrigerated spaces, like this. and every day, he makes the decision, not to. >> in a lot of ways i feel like i'm sort of caring their memory with my success. >> now the use of narcan has become more widespread. it is a powerful overdose reversal tool, so it has yet to offset the steep and steady increase in drug users. reporting live in sat center, alexandria hoff, cbs-3, "eyewitness news".

>> wow, alex, thanks so much. as alex mentioned we know legendary music star prince died of accidental drug overdose of the opioid painkiller fentanyl. newly-released autopsy report revealed the singer administered that drug to himself. the 57 year old found unresponsive inside an elevator at his suburban minneapolis mansion april 21. prescription drugs were found in his home and investigators have been trying to determine whether a doctor was prescribing them to prince in the weeks before his death. the cbs evening news with scott pelle will have much more on the accidental overdose death of prince. that's coming up at 6:30. right after "eyewitness news". well the month of june is off to a sunny and pleasant start. it is hard to find anything negative about this weather. let's finds out how long it will be around. meteorologist, lauren casey out on the skydeck tonight. >> thanks, ukee, feels great out here, getting break from the humidity, break from the hot temperatures, we contends dollars with yesterday. we topped at 90 yesterday. today, little closer to average in philadelphia, so

feeling a bit more comfortable, our high temperature 83 degrees, our average high for today's date is 79 degrees. topped at 83 allentown, little cooler down the shore, especially with that sea breeze kicking in, that's creating temperature gradient right now across the area. still, 80 in the city, 08 in the lehigh valley, but temperatures in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees right now down the shore. also, have some foggy conditions, along the immediate coastline. otherwise, a mix of sun and clouds for philly and surrounding counties. but few showers trying to work themselves into the poconos, and into the lehigh valley. we will start to see the cloud deck increasing, especially, as we head into the second half of the evening. but if you are headed out tonight citizens bank park, catching the phils, 78 degrees, partly sunny conditions. very nice, but tomorrow, you're going have to break out that umbrella again, showers, storms, in the forecast. and in the forecast for p the upcoming weekends. i'll let you know what to expect in your full forecast coming up. >> lauren, thank you so much. long standing tradition is coming to an end at one local high school.

prayers will not be part of the program at this year's graduation ceremony. the controversial change is happening at pottsgrove high school in montgomery county. "eyewitness news" reporter joel holden tells us what's behind the decision. >> reporter: a heated debate has broken out over formal prayer at the high school graduation, call it ben diction, inch vocation, happening for 20 years, as part of the program. >> everybody should be afforded the opportunity to have the best possible graduation without a fence. >> wants the formal prayer gone. he fears it could be offensive to people of other religions. he admits that he was the one who objected after he says what happened at last year's graduation. >> went little overboard with some of the words toward a particular religion. >> so last fall the pair was pulled after the school lawyers determined it wasn't legal. but were told nobody new that until recently. >> they should be up to the students. >> patty grim also a school board member, she says any question of balance, should be

directed to graduating seniors. >> is there another way that it can be done? >> i'm sure there is other ways that it can be done. but then again, i would like the student -- >> we are told the district isn't restricting students speech, but has conclude philadelphia can't and formal part of the program. on those grounds, the compromise could be in the works. >> while the district cannot endorse a prayer of any sort, the students have that right to freedom of speech. and we cannot censor their speeches or anything they might choose to say. >> there was enough discussion over this entire prayer controversy that a special school board meeting has been called for next week. what remains unclear, if the board will call a vote on the issue. >> outside pottsgrove high school, joe holden, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> the search is on for vandal caught on camera slashing tires in philadelphia's mayfair neighborhood. check out this surveillance video, authorities say the vandal damaged 11 cars along tyson avenue thursday night. it happened between batters

bee and crispin streets and anyone with information is asked to call police. >> no arrests made in the deadly hit-and-run after edison high school student. surveillance video shows the driver of a stolen prius never stopped after hitting 18 year old kevin mal donato of olds york road. investigators found the pre is abandoned few blocks away and the driver witnesses say ran away from the scene. >> still have stock that someone can do something, just need someone in the middle of the road, you know, we're grieving. >> police say they are looking for a heavyset black woman, wearing a white floral print dress, who was last seen running west on pike street. take a look at this photo of a water main break near the king of prussia mall. this was on mall boulevard. chopper three over the mess left behind by all of that water, crews continue to make repairs. the bj danson shared this video of another water main break there is one sent geiser of water rushing down busy center city street. it happened just before noon

>> the mark nam constitution center names congressman john lewis as this year's recipient of the liberty medal. congressman lewis one of the last surviving leaders, he currently reps george's fifth district, the awards will honor him for his dedication in civil rights and the constitution. the ceremony takes place september 19th. superheros are coming to life in philadelphia. >> wizard world comic con kicked offer at the pennsylvania convention center today. this is the convention 16th trip to philadelphia. fans get to meet the actors and artists behind their favorite superheros.

sean patrick flannery from boone dock saints and dexter signed autographs today, and wizards worlds runs through sunday. you think you know what your own voice sounds like, until you hear a recording of it. and some of us don't necessarily like what we hear. "eyewitness news" viewer steven stein wants to know why does our voice sounds so different on tape? that's a good question. nicole brewer will get the answer tonight at 11:00. well, the sun is shining, the air is warm, this is baseball wetter. >> got that right. sport director don bell thinks so, as well, down in south philly near broad and pattison, where the phillies take on the brew crew in a little bit. >> you guys call it baseball weather. i call it get out of the studio weather. picking up what i am putting down. yeah, guys, big game, game one of four game series against the milwaukee brewers, all know the phillies are really struggling at this point, jarrod get the start, and the last time he played against the squad back in april, he had his last, and i should say, worse start of the season giving up several runs.

phillies lost six straight, lost ten out of 12, during that streak, i should say, batting 223, scoring two and a half runs per game which is awful. i asked the skip is it time to give an r ahrah speech to these guys? >> not a lot of people see that i bring if guys here, talk to them personally. i like to do it that way preferably rather than have the rah-rah speech. there comes a time do you have yell and scream, sometimes pat them on the back and give them little boost. but i haven't been there yet. i'll probably have two, three meetings before the season's over. >> now while pete mccann on and the phils have some work to do, eagles coach doug peterson and the guys are enjoying their day, pretty much, a bunch of guys taking batting practice including vinny logan, chase daniel, but all about tightened zach ertz, he did all of the damage, crouds the team's batting champion asked to be at the words of wisdom. >> words of wisdom i don't think i have any. mine, these guys out here

outside, really nice. >> good for anything. getting a break from the heat and humidity, you know, once we hit 08 last month, it took forever, until the 24th, but ever since then mother nature like all right. >> here you go, temperatures up into well into the 80s, we hit 09 degrees yesterday. today little closer to average, but really nice conditions, especially, if you are lucky enough to be at the beach right now. check out live look at rehoboth beach right now. beach pretty pack for a thursday. people strolling along the board walk, some nice sunshine in the scene there. a lot of umbrellas in the scene, as well. and temperatures, today, climb into the 80s in philadelphia, our high temperature, at 83 degrees. so about 4 degrees above our average. but getting a break from that kind of intense heat we had yesterday. sunshine with some clouds, mixed in, and just a little bit after heat index right now, feeling more like 81 degrees. and temperatures, 80 degrees right now in the lehigh valley, some low 70s in the poconos, but big temperature gradient, as we head down the

shore, that sea breeze kicking in pulling in ocean air, ocean temperature 36 degrees, at 67 in ac, even cooler in ocean city at 64 degrees. where low clouds have been lingering through much of the day. sixty-six right now in cape may. but dew points, they tell us about that sticky factor, they tell us about the moisture content at the surface, and they are down a bit specially in philadelphia, and points northward, down around the 60 degrees mark, down into the 50's, in trenton, so feeling a bit more comfortable. and that will be the trends for the evening hours. but, as we head into the day tomorrow, humid factor, coming into the upcoming weaken, down right steamy conditions as we head into sunday, with a storm chance, as well, but for overnight tonight pretty quiet conditions, some areas of fog, 65 degrees, so mild tonight, and isolated shower is possible. and then for the day tomorrow, have that umbrella on hand with hit or miss showers with thunderstorms possible, both in the morning and in the afternoon. our high temperature right around average at 79 degrees.

>> storm scan3 showing us pretty quiet conditions, more sunshine up and down the i95 corridor, few showers trying to work into the poconos, in the lehigh valley, and we do have some shower activity just around mount pocono, and point south, but very light in intensity at this point. shower activity moving eastbound right now. do have slow moving cold front, so generating much more action to our west, showers, thunderstorms across parts of virginia and central pennsylvania, but those won't be bothering us until the day thomas that cold front makes closer approach. also, off to our south, bonnie, remember that system, has regained tropical characteristics, and now is once again a tropical depression, so national hurricane center is re-ish ewing advisories on bonnie, but it is not going to be a problem. winds speeds right now at only around 35 miles per hour, restrengthening, and likely as bonnie moves off to the east, over warmer waters of the atlantic, and bonnily continue moving eastbound, not present ago problem for the eastern seaboard. future weather showing us

headed into the evening hours, pretty quiet conditions, chance of isolated shower overnight tonight. better chance of few hit or miss showers and storms, now that's tomorrow morning, and tomorrow afternoon, as well, we will see some breaks of sunshine, but do watch out for the storm chance, especially later in the day, then as we head into the evening hours, once the sunsets, that rain chance will really start to diminish. so do you have friday night plans looking pretty good. on saturday, 84, muggy conditions, sunday the wet day of the weekends, thunderstorms looking like lick specially seconds half of the day into the evening hours, and few of the storms could be on the stronger side, so keep an eye to the sky. as we head into monday, a breezy day, then by tuesday, we will get another break from the humidity looking pretty good-bye then. >> keep your eye to the sky. thanks, appreciate t still ahead tonight, award winning inventions by local seventh graders. we'll take a look at their thoughtful -- >> plus healthy choices, healthier living. local stores mak
