it is a rainy start to the weekend. live look at ocean city wherever one is hoping for better weather. the shore seasons underway. "eyewitness news" was on the soggy streets of moorestown burlington county, humid damp start for people heading out to work and getting out for the day, but the town's flowers are benefiting from the rain. umbrellas were opened in

the sidewalk this morning in the spring garden section of the city of philadelphia, rain was falling making for a dreary start to the workday. good afternoon i'm jim donovan. i'm brooke thomas. overnight parts of the central pennsylvania saw 3 inches of rainfall in 90 minutes this was the scene in clear field north offal tune a in reports of anyone hurt here but some people had to be rescued, by boat. >> and more showers are on the way today for us. >> lets get a first look with the forecast with meteorologist katie fehlinger live on the cbs-3 sky deck. i know you said it would be wet but i was surprised a at the noise, sound of the rain, you know. >> yeah, it is definitely coming down the at a maryland rate rain intensity right now, brooke but we are going to be dodging this kind of a variety of hit or miss light or moderate rain showers, maybe even a rumble of thunder at any point the rest of the day. it all comes courtesy of a sluggish front but it is a front that is weakening. we don't to have worry about severe weather. we will use that as a positive spin on this but regardless it is obviously a dreary end to the week.

lets take a quick peak the at storm scan, looking at tri-state sweep, and it doesn't look like much, does it. sometimes radar can be deceiving. the let's zoom it out once or twice take a quick peak at the satellite and loop over last three hours. as you you know even at this point you cannot quite see it, the back edge of the front you will be dodging the rain anytime to today, coming through, in scattered fashion, but, when it is done, it will take you and you may want to keep umbrella ready since i'm needing mine right now. lets take a peak at what the temperatures are looking like right now, flirting with or reaching 70-degree mark. it is a comfortable afternoon, not terribly muggy but moisture contend is there for us to see some showers and definitely cloud. sun will be very limited today, as we look the at region as a whole though, it is not press crest day for us, obviously down the shore, up in the poconos and not here in philadelphia either. but it is pretty typical. that is something we have not been able to say as of ovulate. seventy-nine is where we top off in the city to day. that is right where we should be. to still with some showers out

there any of the showers still left over in the afternoon could also, come accompanied with, a thunderstorm but as i mentioned we are not expecting severe wet they are time around. that is good news. however, coming up this weekend another front is scheduled to cross our area, and that one, jim and brooke could bring us some stronger storms, we will talk about that later in the show. all right, katie. we're following some breaking news in levittown this afternoon where a deadly shooting took place. "eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is their life with more on what happened, rahel? report report jim, good afternoon. this is still a very active crime scene and police tell me they have updated me ten minutes ago and say it started with the green minivan behind me. i will step out of the way so you can see is what happening. police say around 10:00, two suspects showed up, pulled up at pennsbury pharmacy in levittown, one suspect stays in the minivan. he is a parentally supposed to be the getaway driver. second suspect, gets out of the minivan a parentally wearing a mask and armed with

a gun visibly walking in the pharmacy with this mask and a gun, take a look, there are two surveillance cameras outside the pharmacy. police say that the owner of the pennsbury pharmacy, he is watching this all unfold, he sees this suspect, reportly walk in, armed and so, he prepares himself. so police say when this second suspect goes to the back of the pharmacy, goes to the counter, armed with a weapon he apparently point is it at the owner of the pennsbury pharmacy. the owner fires shooting and killing the second suspect. and take a listen, police say while thinks all unfolding, that second suspect remained in the green minivan apparently completely unaware of what is going on inside. >> the getaway driver is inside of the van and must not have heard the shooting, doesn't realize it just happened. owner then able to hit his pull up alarm and call 911, say what happened. our officers were on the scene in under two minutes. the advanced park for a quick

getaway he could have got out of was but he did not. >> reporter: police tell thaws green minivan just behind me was stolen from new jersey. police were able to arrest that second suspect who apparently was supposed to be the getaway driver. suspect who did go inside he was shot and killed. we are expecting new information tonight, or today rather at 3:00 p.m. as far as whether charges will be filed and more details about exactly what happened here this morning. we will bring that to you later this evening. reporting live from levittown, rahel sol machine for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". thanks, so much rahel. texas authorities are looking for four soldiers, swept away from flood water during a training exercise. three others were rescued in stable condition. cbs news, correspondent john champion has the latest. >> reporter: search teams are focused on this lake area of fort hood as they looked for several soldiers who disappeared in flood waters. >> it is an unfortunate accident that happened very quickly.

>> reporter: officials say soldiers were part of the 12 member unit training thursday, when their vehicle like this one, tried crossing the swollen creek and then got swept away. >> they were out on the range. they regularly passed through weather conditions like this. >> reporter: search crews have recovered the bodies of five of the soldiers. >> three soldiers were rescued and taken to the hospital, and they could be released as early as today. flood watches and warnings are posted across most of the state, and officials are also watching the river closely which is expected to crest in the days a head. two years ago it was bone dry. the driver and passenger in this truck in grandbury narrowly escaped getting swept away in raging water. >> water can look innocent, harmless but you can drive-in to it a and be completely swept away. >> more storms, could dump another 10 inches of rain in parts of the state. don champion for cbs-3

"eyewitness news". a five-year old little girl is fighting for her life after a fire swept her northeast philadelphia home. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao explains how an off-duty philadelphia police officer tried to help the girl's mother get her out of the house. >> friend and family of sophia olson are hoping for a miracle on friday. little girl in extremely critical condition after a fast moving fire, tore through her northeast philadelphia row home. >> she is five years old, just hope for the best. >> reporter: robert olson is child's uncle, today he is asking for prayers and thanking neighbors for their efforts to save the five-year old. >> we're a small family, we keep to ourselves. it is a tragedy. >> reporter: fire broke out in more he will park around 5:30, thursday, chopper three over the 3700 block of hereford lane, the girl was in the back bedroom here. her mother, desperate to reach her but could not because of the smoke and flames. neighbors, including an off-duty philadelphia police officer tried to help. >> when fire department

arrived we had a philadelphia police officer who lives across the street off duty a tempt to make a rescue but was driven back by fire and smoke. >> he went in six times and he came out and he was throwing up on the grass because it was so smokey are are the. >> reporter: fran goodfriend was watching in terror. >> my mother was out there screaming my baby is in there and be in could get in. >> reporter: mother and that off-duty police officer were eventually hospitalized with smoke inhalation, little girl was taken to st. christopher's hospital fighting for her life. fire investigators now say that they found no working smoke detectors inside the home. >> she just graduated from kindergarten, and they had little pictures on facebook of her on facebook and it is really sad. >> reporter: cause remains under investigation but fire official does not believe it was intentionally set. in northeast philadelphia, jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> very sad story. woman involved in the fight outside a center city star bucks has turned herself into police. forty-seven year-old devon

montgomery was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and making terroristic threats. you may recall she's the woman in this april 25th surveillance video, the altercation began inside of the store and then spilled out on to the street. montgomery reportedly threw a cup of coffee on another woman and punched her in the face and pulled her to the ground. meanwhile a dispute between neighbors sends a dozen bullets flying in the wild shoot-out overnight. at least ten shots were fired during a fight at thorn and washington lane, in west oak lane. luckily no one was hit. two people were arrested. police recovered two guns at the scene as well. first lady is in new york today to deliver the commencement a dress at city college in harlem. it is a rainy day there too did you dreary weather could not dampen the excitement of graduates eager to see michelle obama take the stage. it was founded in 1847 and long pride on educating immigrants and these without the means to attend the private universities.

>> the man in it or range prison jump suit is convicted sex offender and had to be sentenced to death for killing three people, monk them was daughter of van terry, who had walk in the front of the courtroom to give a victim impact statement. the killer smiled at terry who lunged at him and then had to be restrained. >> i don't know if i throughout about leaping or thought about what happened but i just wanted him. i call it a the father feeling his pain and if i get charged i am all right with that. >> reporter: terry was removed from the courtroom by officers. as for killer any execution is years away due to the appeals process. we told but devastating flooding in texas at this hour, but many parts of the europe are also, under water. >> in paris tourist are turned away from the world famous lo uv e as water rises through the city. tina krause has the very latest on the situation. >> reporter: the river has burst its banks near eiffel tower a and other famous landmarks in paris.

well, stars from some of your favorite sci-fi shows and super hero movies are taking over philly this weekend. >> they are here for wizard world, being held at the pennsylvania convention center. this morning we got a sneak peak at the icon i can cars on display like delauren from back in the future and kit from knight rider. some celebrity expected to attend thor's chris hemsworth and david due could have any and michael j. fox from back to the future. now i think that back to the future car was a reproduction, if i remember.

>> long story about that. >> yes. >> family uses it, and different shows and they raised half million-dollar for charity, which is great. >> awesome. >> that is really cool. >> but this thing brings out a lot of people. >> more famous car then the bat mobile. >> um-hmm, probably. >> perhaps, perhaps. >> comiccan attracts an interesting crowd. >> yes, that is so, so true. it looks like it might be a good excuse to find something to do inside this weekend. >> is that right. >> yes. we have wet weather to dodge right now. we have more over the course of the weekend and actually sunday in particular is when we will see potential for stronger thunderstorms to return to our forecast. a lot to cover here. lets get out to it. we will start off with a view of skies scan three. up in the poconos, jack frost big bold inner carbon county we have dreariness out here. not an bit of snow left at this point. you cannot see anything left. it is all lush, green, beautiful quite frankly.

no one hitting slopes anytime soon but regardless it is still a dreary beginning to the weekend for us here. and pretty much every where else. next up we will go to far southeastern view outside middletown ship high school. i wanted to show you this, because look, a sliver of blue sky, trying to push through, so while you will not see a ton of sunshine at least trying very hard, to actually clear out, but it will take until this front gets cleared out before we can officially say okay, we will get rid of the clouds for a day. but the fact is that this system is, still well off to our west and in the meantime we are tracking some stuff going on in the tropic is here believe it or not. here's heavy rain spinning from an area have low pressure over texas. that is not tropical moisture but there is moisture being drawn in from that. we have remnants of what is tropical depression bonnie, that could become tropical storm bonnie as it pushes out to sea. no immediate worries there. but that rain as we talk about earlier in the broadcast is still pounding down, upon the

lone star state and more in the forecast and with that said is there an area of low pressure watching down across caribbean, this will potentially, turn tropical as it migrates toward the gulf in the next couple days. we have a good shot moving forward, to actually develop, and now it will be in our hurricane season and not unheard of to start to see tropical activity. we will keep an eye on. that it looks like no matter what happens that is something that we will avoid here in the northeast. so sunny and clouds coming back by tomorrow. we will sit between systems, between the first front crosses through. it looks like a decent day. stray shower. and then sunday, that is when the next more potent cold front comes along, that will trigger showers, that will trigger thunderstorms and this time around it does look like we have a better potential to see those storms, turn locally strong. so, you want to stick with us, certainly we will keep you posted as things evolve there but in the wake of the system we will clear it out see skies turn partly sunny throughout monday. breezy. we will call it straight up windy in the wake of the

system but not cooler despite it being a cool front. we will have so many events, philly international cycling classic is one of them. it is not looking all that great. we know they are tough guys, tough women. they will be out regardless but just expect there will be wet weather to dodge throughout the majority of the day, and maybe a few breaks along the way but kind of dreary. that is the same story as it goes for the shore. we have sort of the sandwich going on here for friday, can't still rule out a shower or then are storm rest of the day to day. sun does return tomorrow. and then more showers and storms come sunday. as it pans out on the eyewitness weather seven day forecast, warmer with these temperatures that we're reporting for philadelphia. generally in the mid to low 80's starting tomorrow and right through tuesday. but again, today, sunday, it is one that we will be dodging worse of the wet weather next couple of days. >> okay. >> okay. >> i will be outside saturday. >> you'll be fine, stray shower, nothing more. >> stray shower? >> yes. >> some tourists, ignored the
