building was evacuated until engineers can determine whether it is safe to go back inside. in one was hurt. quickly the moving stormed ripped a large tree right out of the ground in drexel hill delaware county. chopper three over school land and edmond avenue where a tree went partially on top of the house. no injuries were reported there either. and in one was hurt when a tree fell and landed on a park car in philadelphia's spring garden neighborhood. that tree crush the roof of the car, and then blew out the back window. these storms came in fast and furious, this afternoon, meteorologist kate bilo was in the weather center with where they had hit the hardest and what they left in the wake, kate. >> these storms were along a shortwave, what we call piece of energy in the atmosphere that rotated through this afternoon and just shows that you sometimes don't need the heat and humidity that we often need to get thunderstorms going when we have a strong impulse moving through the region and this was a strong one. take a look, six hours ago, thunderstorms erupted,

alexandria hoff is at city hall with the very latest, alex? >> reporter: before council cast a vote they must finish up with public comment. most of the day has focused on a alternative to the sugar tax a container tax meaning would it a reply to any beverage in the container like this. now pro soda folks say this is far more fair but others say applying water to a tax does nothing for public health. it was a loud day at city hall. >> no new taxes, no new taxes. >> reporter: began with those rallying outside against a proposed tax on sugary beverages. >> this is just making it so expensive it will put us out of business. >> reporter: beverage industry advocates concerned over what they see as a discriminatory proposal by the mayor went head to head with supporters of the tax, prior to a scheduled vote.

"eyewitness news" continues 59:30. i'm's ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. vandals strike in the middle of the night leaving dozens of cars damaged in fishtown. "eyewitness news" reporter joe holden is there in the neighborhood with more on what police are trying to do, and also trying to figure out hoist responsible. >> reporter: it would appear these vandals drove up memphis street making quick work out of the smashing out one window after the other. it is a terrible thing to wake up too. >> reporter: close to two dozen car windows smashed. >> just the aggravation. >> reporter: trail of the random destruction, spanning a couple of blocks of memphis street in fishtown. >> that is like, three or four long blocks. >> you know, just annoying,

in fishtown, i'm joe holden for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". all right, take a look at this man, in these photos, police in doylestown say he snuck on to a car dealership lot, on memorial day and then stole, one of the cars there. the surveillance images show him entering on a bicycle and that is where police say he upgraded to a ford pickup truck. truck had a snowplow on the front. if you recognize that suspect call the police. a scare in gloucester township camden county, driver runs off the road and in the fence of that house. chopper three over the scene as workers remove the car off the lot. it happened around 10:00 o'clock this morning. police tell "eyewitness news" that the driver is okay, and no one in the house was hurt. a 911 call for an unconscious person behind the wheel, landed delaware man behind bars, for his fifth, driving under the influence offense. jeffery bradley was arrested on north union church road in milford yesterday. in addition to dui, the 29 year-old, faces resisting arrest and other charges.

police say a computer check revealed that bradley had four previous dui convictions dating back to 2006. and now an out of control driver plows through a group of bicycle wrists in michigan killing five and injuring four others. this happened jed in kalamazoo county. police received calls that the 50 year-old driver had been speeding through the area for at least a half an hour before the deadly crash. eyewitnesses described the horrifying scene. >> it hurts me. i was crying after i seen it. >> it was not like he hit a tree. it didn't sound like he collided with people, bikes. >> police arrested the driver after a brief foot chase. security experts are renewing warnings about pass word safety after latest high profile hacking. nfl commissioner roger goodell was the target and hackers once took over accounts belong to go facebook ceo mark zuckerberg. all of it raises the question if a social media tycoons account can be hacked how

looking at across most of the area you would never believe just a few hours ago we were all under severe thunderstorm warnings. it is a beautiful evening, at middletown ship high school in cape may courthouse. look at those puffy clouds drifting by and cool outside. especially up in the poconos, north and western suburbs. you may need a jacket outside tonight. temperatures only in the 50's there right now and dropping in the 40's overnight. and a few instability showers again, trying to pop up, once the sun goes down. these will go away as well. worst of it is over. you can see that strong what we call shortwave trough that rotated through the area this afternoon with those strong to severe thunderstorms. and also, big temperature swing. we will start the morning at 6:00 a.m. 60 degrees. sixty-six by 9:00. briefly hit 07 by 11:00 a.m. before temperatures tank. see if you can figure out where storms came through, between 11:00 and noon, temperatures dropped 12 degrees and then we will rebound. new we are backup to six with the the sun peeking out to finish our day. temperatures in the mid 60's across the region and we have got a good stretch ahead, and
